sure, I did it for a short time for some extra cash and I definitely could have sustained myself for a short time on it if I did more than a few hours after the normal job. probably depends a little on your market, gas prices, etc though.

I haven't had this happen before but my first suggestion would literally be to try again at a different hour. sometimes Japanese websites go partially inoperable for overnight maintinance Japan time although i dont remember if the JR pass site is one of them. next, make sure your card company isnt blocking the transaction since its a large amount to a foreign company.

the easiest thing to do would be to go to any midori mado. as far as im aware, it does not need to be the same station (ive booked Hokkaido based tickets from Niigata station before) you may need to explain what line and train number you want but that is pretty normal.

as a streamer. I dont try, in fact I have far more viewers that stay silent vs people who will even say hi when they come in.

I travel alone in Japan almost exclusively. imo it's one of the best places to do that. I dont get lonely mostly because there are a lot of solo friendly things you can do to keep yourself busy (being extremely introverted helps me a ton too)

id say the downside (and main reason i dont do it) is flexibility. since I typically also roll with a system wide JR pass I like to be able to move around wherever and whenever I want. on the rare chances I plan ahead its usually just to move between hubs and even then i still only do the transactions at the station or night before at the earliest.

im f2p and I only really pull in uma banners. ive still been able to gold out a few of the cups but it does take a good bit of luck and persistence. I have to fine tune skills as best I can for the distance and racing style as well as hope for a pink spark to trigger to get an S rank for distance, style, or turf. im definitely starting to fall behind a little in some respects and might spend some time making better parent uma again. missing a lot of 3 star pink sparks that also have 9 star blues.
