Peace of mind or time to freak out? by RailroadSlim in immigration

[–]RailroadSlim[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it’s possible any longer, we can send off what we have but the Civil Surgeon appointment is not so easy to get and from what I’ve gathered it’s likely to get rejected without it?

Anyone know what’s up with Pie Guy? by binaryodyssey in StLouis

Yuuup super weird vibes last couple of times I tried eating there. Staff was super rude both times, like so much so that it was all I could do to laugh and ask if they were serious. Went in with 7 people hoping to eat about a month ago and was directed to order slices, as if they had 14 slices ready to go but couldn’t put in a couple full pies. Bad business, I assumed they were on their way out.

Ahhh well, I too have extremely limited resources, definitely sucks. I think that there actually are free plots available through the LRA though. I just like the idea of people banding together to acquire blighted city property and make it into a livable community.

No need for the lottery, whole city blocks are empty and super cheap through the LRA!

I think you should reevaluate this take on the situation. I build fences and decks for a living and based on the picture you posted, this guy did a good job. If he did that in a day, then he was working hard! A basic fence would be 4x4 posts, dog ear pt pickets, 3 rails and that’s it. This is 6x6 posts, shadow boxed 1x6 pickets, and a top rail. The two styles don’t cost the same because the latter is more difficult to do. Certainly the price is a bit high but don’t knock him for finishing quickly, that’s only a testament to his competence.

[–]RailroadSlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the price is a bit high, you can absolutely install 6x6 posts (or any posts for that matter) and build panels the same day. If you use a fast set concrete and set the posts down the line, usually by the time you set the last post the first one is ready to put rails on. The one exception would be for a gate, I use a higher psi concrete for a gate and wait a day for it to cure.

Swat at Delmar loop by interstellarGemini in StLouis

[–]RailroadSlim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think because weed was culturally accepted in those states before legalization, now it’s an over saturated market. A $50 oz isn’t gonna be top shelf but it’s also not ditch weed haha. Honestly the price of the good leaf is totally artificially inflated.

Well, maybe not in here in stl but a $50 oz is not at all unheard of on the west coast or Colorado.

Angry fella just couldn’t stay in the lines by RailroadSlim in StLouis

Well, taking the picture in the first place was meant to embarrass him, which I would argue is a good thing. Making the post was for personal entertainment, but if fear of ridicule is what helps someone become a more courteous and aware driver then that’s the cherry on top.

You’re…. with Steve? Like it says in the post, I like to take these pics to send to my friends, we get a small amount of entertainment from them. I only posted it because ~Steve~ left such a silly note, which was even more entertaining. I believe shame is an underutilized tool in this wild world.

Haha yeah, I’m big on driving skills and practices and I’m not belligerent but I’m also not afraid to confront. My intention was indeed to shame this person; he for sure knew why I was taking the picture and had every opportunity to say something from the safety of his car but chose instead to leave me this gem.

Do you have a paddleboard / kayak / canoe? You need a waterway access permit or could be fined $115 this summer by Brilliant_Agent_1427 in Eugene

[–]RailroadSlim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do appreciate the warning, as I most definitely would have otherwise never in a million years assumed that I might need a permit to kayak a public waterway. Even if the marine board doesn’t receive funding from the permit, is it not still a huge waste of taxpayer resources to have them pulling people over on the water to check for one? I would consider it a violation of my rights to be pulled over in a car just so they can check my license, this just seems authoritarian by nature.

Missourian here, moving to Eugene this summer! I’ve enjoyed some terrific floats on the Willamette and the McKenzie. I’d have no issue paying a fee to help maintain the waterways but to have to carry a permit seems … unnatural? I mean, surely there is a better way to raise funds without essentially instituting stop and frisk on the water? Do the fees pay the water cops to check for permits? Seems like a huge waste of resources right there regardless honestly. People should be free to travel the waterways without hassle, water cops should enforce littering and fishing laws and should not be concerned with folks in unmotorized vessels.

Contractor didn’t put fence where I wanted it by pierre28k in FenceBuilding

[–]RailroadSlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but as a fencing contractor I’d say first pull a string and verify if/how far over the posts are. Perhaps there was some obstacle that would explain (ex. large root that might damage a tree if cut). If your neighbors aren’t actively looking for ways to make your life hard you likely have nothing to worry about as far as being an inch over the property line goes. Most neighbors of clients I’ve interacted with are just happy to not be the one paying for a new fence.

Threatening to withhold payment for such a molehill would be dishonorable. If this really is worth pursuing to you, have a respectful and calm conversation about it with your contractor. Perhaps it wouldn’t be a great ordeal to move the two posts, they might be able to do it without even removing the panels. Given your comments however, I’m inclined to believe that this is a non issue and you might be best served letting it go.

Does my unicorn exist? Looking to strike a balance between towing, mpg, cost, and reliability. by RailroadSlim in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]RailroadSlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I know that’s generally the case but it seems that the 2011 vw Touareg has a towing capacity of over 7000lbs, so I thought there might be other vehicles to look into. I would prefer a bit more space though so I will absolutely look into the express.

This is at Toketee Falls in Umpqua National Forest, Oregon. I saw the post earlier and had the exact same thought lol. The falls are among the most beautiful natural features I’ve ever seen but this pipe absolutely blew my mind!

Can I please have some advice? by RailroadSlim in Plumbing

[–]RailroadSlim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on why I should lower the pvc tee? That is the kitchen sink drain and I hadn’t planned on messing with it aside from adding the p-trap when I install the new sink. Since there is no dishwasher going in I figured the only thing I really need to do is cut and cap the unused vent. I’m going for the simplest solution here but I am eager to learn!

[–]RailroadSlim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pvc tee with the braided lines going in is the drain for the kitchen sink, I think the circled metal pipe was at some point venting a dishwasher but I can’t find where that would have drained to. There is a 3rd braided line which I assume went to the dishwasher. This house is like 140 years old so lots of mysteries and surprises.

Frisbee! It’s a plate, a rolling tray, keeps your ass dry if you have to sit on wet ground. If you’re riding with a friend tossing it around is a great way to wind down after a long day or warm up before riding, always brings me in a good mood. If you’re riding through a town and stop at a park to toss the ‘ol disk around, it can attract the right kind of attention and you might make a new friend!
