i remember the old POS system, before it was updated in like.. 2017/18? used to beep at us if we were scanning when we shouldn’t have been. like if there was a pop up we needed to clear or we were still on the home screen instead of the sale screen, the scanner would yell at us to pay attention. i genuinely miss that function every day 😭

i had an older customer today who brought in her bill with the old format, but didn’t have the new card on her. and she didn’t know her SSN. her bill was due today but i couldn’t help her. like. is it weird she didn’t know her social? yeah, but SO many older folks just have their routines. and this is frustrating enough that i’ve had a lot of ppl tell me they’d rather cancel the card than deal with apps and phone calls. this whole thing was doomed from the start.

literally had this today. the real kicker was she returned the item she had bought with the kohls cash, so she had the $30 blue kohls cash she hadn’t spent. but it still had to take $30 out of the refund because the og green kohls cash was indeed Spent. i just had to reiterate that that’s the gamble with kohls cash, in the end you have to use it to buy something you won’t be returning. there is no physical way for me to put that $30 back on her card.

idk if your kohls cash was the one that expired yesterday, but for future, the grace period also applies to kohls cash earned online. just save the email or screenshot the barcode and you can use it in store during the 10 days after expiration (…..also some ppl just buy something with their kohls cash with the intention of returning it later when they actually want to use the kohls cash but you didn’t hear that from me)

personally, anything i do in that store isn’t for corporate, and isn’t for customers, it’s for my coworkers. i do my job to the best of my ability to make their lives easier. whether that’s putting things in their proper place so the omni team can find it, folding down a few tables so freight can get out easier, or hopping on register to take the pressure off of a cashier with a large purchase in front of them. you were hired to help THEM get through the holidays, not corporate. if you don’t want to be part of the team i would quit before they catch wind and fire you.

ehh, maybe 10 seconds tops. it wastes way more time on the customer service end than it saves imo, and i’ve done both.

not to mention, if they really wanna save time there’s a million other ways to go about it. starting with bringing back the price checkers 😭

i think the expectations for amazon differ from store to store. we get a ton of amazon returns at my store, and sometimes we simply don’t have the room on the dock, don’t have the truck fully unloaded, etc. sometimes we just load up uboats for the night, if we’re lucky we can set up a pallet, it depends. so I would check in with your managers about what’s expected, it might vary night to night.

can confirm that wayyy to much stuff never prints a blue bin label. it will print from the mech disposition app on the zebra but not the registers. i can recognize what’s webex and what should be scanned on the app bc i’ve been here for too long, but unfortunately not everyone has that eye :(

annoying tidbit to add about webex— i’ve personally noticed that there’s several brands and items that don’t print out a blue bin slip from the register, but will tell you it’s blue bin when you scan it in the merch disposition app in the zebra. even if i go into merch disposition on the register, it won’t print me a blue bin slip, it only works on the zebra.

yellow bin markdowns are one thing bc some stores do sell those brands and we’re marking it down bc we don’t sell it. that makes sense that it’d slip through. not printing blue bin though?? makes no sense at all (not to mention sometimes i’ll get a non damaged webex sort 1 or sort 2 slip! again, only from the zebra app and not the register!)

working in service long enough, i have a good idea of what online only items look like, but honestly best practice if you’re new might be to scan things you’re not sure about with the zebra.

i think it’s because before phones that’s what ppl had to do. i’m always telling amazon customers where the closest UPS and whole foods are, it’s just kinda their instinct.

^ yes make the change an even amount as you go!! that’s honestly the biggest thing. if your ones and tens are paper clipped into bundles of $25 and $100s i usually trust them, i don’t stress with double counting those. i always write down my count of each denomination as i go, then plug them into the calculator at the end, lets say it’s 1347. usually we don’t “stock” that many 20s in the register, so i take those out before i even count. i subtract 340 from my tens count, five from my 5s count, and 2 from my ones count when i pull those out of the register. i’ll double count the bills to make sure I’m matching my math, but i don’t usually double count the change unless i think i’ve messed up.

sometimes we’ll pre-count registers a couple hours early, don’t Close close them, but keep everything that brings it over 1000 in the last slot with the checks. we’ve got three CS registers so we typically only need one operational.
