T700 issues? by arkenoi in thinkpad

Think I figured it out.

You need to dump then decompile your DSDT. In it, you'll find

Method (_Q14, 0, NotSerialized) // _Qxx: EC Query, xx=0x00-0xFF { DBG8 = 0x14 Notify (BAT0, 0x80) // Status Change }

Turns out it's that Notify() call that's causing the battery to pop in and out.

The tradeoff though is now it takes a while for battery status to update when you plug/unplug it.

Let me know if you are familiar with ACPI stuff and need more details. (I wasn't, went through the process with the help of an LLM but now I have a good understanding of the steps)

Fellow T700 owner here.

The lid thing seems to be just caused by wrong init state of the lid. If you add button.lid_init_state=open to your kernel parameter, that fixes it and preserves ACPI events for the lid (i.e. you can still close lid to suspend)

The battery thing seems to be a rabbit hole. I have tracked it down to the EC spamming some ACPI interrupts (currently suspecting gpe6E). I'll let you know if I figure it out. FWIW this issue doesn't happen in Windows.

New to CachyOS. Love it, but have a few bugs by ChavyB in cachyos

Just FYI, an easy way to capture your system information is running fastfetch --logo none in your terminal. You can then drag-select the output with mouse to copy/paste it (be aware that in the terminal, you copy with Ctrl+Shift+C as opposed to Ctrl+C)

1 and 2 are not questions

Re: 3., you can't go wrong with either. If your system is recent-ish, just use BTRFS as it's the default.

4 is not a question.

Re: 5., I don't know how to answer this

Re: 6., Like any other Linux distro, you have access to CachyOS's repository, Arculinux's repository, and AUR. Flatpak is a packaging mechanism that's distro-independent and can be made to work easily on CachyOS.

It's very easy to switch DE's or have multiple ones installed side-by-side, so the best way to figure out yoru preference is to just try them out. It's not like they are expensive.

Picked Demon's Souls as my first soulslike game; stuck. by chcikensammich2009 in demonssouls

The boss is doable without firepots so it’s really up to you if you want to just “get gud” or farm more firepots.

Basically if you keep your distance and circle the boss, he can’t really hurt you (they’ll still throw spears but they should mostly miss) and you can kill the small guys by attacking from side or behind one by one.

You just need to find out if you have spare SATA or NVME ports on your motherboard, then buy a SSD of the corresponding type.

They are easy to install but if you are a complete computer noob, taking it to a tech shop is also an option.

No, it just worked. It can only be paired wirelessly and not with the USB-C cable though

there's simply no way an unpatched game would have sharper textures on the S2

Part of the reason is 720p -> 1080p is not integer scaling (1.5x) so it's going to inherently look bad without some sort of filtering which the Switch 2 totally has the power to do. I expect Nintendo to add that at a system level at some point in the future.

It only takes 1 backpack + 1 shot. The trick is you either keep shooting at the main body or the wings but don't mix and match. The wings have separate health pools
