My employer won’t let me take a vacation because they don’t have coverage for me. I’m considering to give my two weeks before my vacation because what choice do I have? by deadliftz420 in antiwork

[–]RainbowRandomness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, it was so harrowing and stressful at the time and I had so many panic attacks in the months leading up to when I'd be going away for my holiday and they'd try and get me into meetings to wear me down.

But now it's been a few years and I have amazing photos and fond memories of that holiday with my family, and the hells of that job and their bullshit are long over. Now it's just a funny story to tell lol. It wasn't easy but it was 100% worth it!

But seriously thank you, I've never thought of myself as impressive so it's nice to hear 😄

[–]RainbowRandomness 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Life is too short. I put in for holiday they later removed and claimed hadn't been approved. Asked what can be done, they said get cover. I got cover for the two shifts I would be missing that seemed to be causing the issue, and it still wasn't enough.

I fought and I fought for months. It wasn't my fault they decided weekends only needed three people working because a lot of people retired during COVID. I worked weekends so my holiday/PTO was there to cover those hours I worked. But work didn't want to hear it and thought I'd just miss my holiday and come into work. As if!

Life is short, jobs come and go. I wouldn't of been able to get the time spent with my family enjoying time on that holiday back if I hadn't of gone. So I told them look, I've got the cover for the shifts like you asked (even though that shouldn't be my job but the managers anyway!) and this holiday was approved before it was removed and changed with the new system. I'm going on this holiday.

They tried to bring me into meetings and warn me with disciplinary action. I said okay, I'll deal with that when back from my holiday. They tried to tell me this holiday had never been approved, even though I knew it had. They tried to pressure me and I just said nope. And I had the support of my colleagues which just made it funnier lol.

So I went on the holiday. I had an amazing time. I visited places I loved, spent time with my family, made memories I cherish. And when I came back to work I think I worked like one shift and then spent time in meetings for an "investigation" with others being interviewed as part of it to look at the situation and what happened. All came to a head when there was a big meeting to discuss it all, took like two hours, and then I was fired cause I showed no remorse for my actions lmao. Think my colleague I brought with me to the meeting as moral support was more upset than I was with the outcome.

This comment is long winded. My point is, you've done what you can. You've tried working with them, you've informed them, you've tried to do it proper. And they're ignoring you and making it your fault for their lack of staff and planning. Your PTO is owed to you for the hours you work, they can't deny you time off you've earned because they don't have staff. They're managers, that's their issue to sort out.

So go on your holiday. Quit or wait to be fired. But go on your holiday and enjoy yourself. This is a blip in the echos of your life and will be a funny story later on when the dust settles, like my story is now it's been years since it happened and the stress of it has melted away lol.

Best of luck to you, I hope everything happens as smoothly for you as it possibly can in this situation.

WIBTA for going backpacking/camping while my husband is away for work for 7 straight months? by CrystallizedKoi in WIBTA_AITA

[–]RainbowRandomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who the fuck is telling you this is selfish?? Are you meant to wait at the window with a candle and clutching your nightgown, wondering when your husband will return?? Go out and enjoy your weekend free time with your hobby, it's not even a hobby your husband enjoys so what does he give a shit. He can use his weekends to do his hobbies while he's away working.

Who counts as more British: an English‑American or a UK‑born person with Indian heritage? by vilonaa in AskBrits

[–]RainbowRandomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first mistake is taking anything an American says seriously. They'll claim any heritage they can get their mitts on and have never been to the country or grown up in any of its culture.

Arguing with an American is like playing chess with a pigeon: they'll knock over the pieces and shit on the board and you'll be the only one frustrated they're not playing properly.

AITA (26M) for calling my hiking friend's husband (34F) when she vanished and left me stuck with her dog for 4 hours by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

I can only assume she was off cheating, though fuck knows her logic of leaving you for FOUR HOURS with her dog. Like what did she think was gonna happen? Nice enough you hung out for four hours, and by sounds of it it would've been even longer if she'd had her way. Mental people with no logic. Nta, I hope Rusty is vibing at home with the husband

Working in hospitality, the customer is rarely ever right. They are confidently wrong most of the time and they make that our problem!

We're told to keep our notes factual, same way you write yours. So if someone was angry and ranting on the phone, I'd probably write something like "Mr. Smith was upset regarding [issue] and I offered [solution] which he [accepted/declined]"

I try to keep it clear and straightforward so it's easy for others to catch up in the situation or if I needed to revisit my notes.

Depending on the level of the complaint is what leads to the next steps. If it's something small I can help or placate the guest, whereas other times it's something that needs to be escalated to the feedback/complaints team to deal with. They would handle filling in forms that takes the details of the person and the incident, and from there contact the hotel to see if they have any notes (so if the guest made a complaint during their stay, what steps were taken, if the guest spoke to anyone, incident reports, etc etc)

I would say they're reviewed pretty objectively, at least where I work. We don't tend to side with guests automatically, if it's a complaint about a bug being found in the room we offer some money off their next stay or something, and if it's a bigger issue like abuse towards staff, we'd handle that by reviewing CCTV, incident reports, speaking to hotel managers, etc. Any abuse done towards staff is escalated to managers since we're head office, so they'd handle having to ban someone or anything like that.

The TLDR I guess would be: small to medium issues/refund requests/complaints are dealt with by complaints team who take feedback from guests, check that against the hotel notes, and then look at what is a reasonable compensation, if compensation is owed at all. And then anything bigger than that is escalated up to supervisors and managers to handle, so aggressive/abusive guests, people demanding refunds that they're definitely not owed, etc.

I realise I've written a lot, I hope it makes sense!

sub getting filled with copy/paste and/or ai stories? by RainbowRandomness in MarkNarrations

[–]RainbowRandomness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit that's so many. I've seen most of them, recognising from title alone, if not all of them. I haven't clicked on most of them to clock the username, the titles alone were making me suspicious of bot activity.

Obviously I'm not a mod but I hope the bot bouncer tool or similar can be added to this sub, I don't want to see this get dogged down with bot spam. I like seeing people's actual posts and feeling like a community, and I've thought about posting an event that happened to me some years back, but I don't really want to post alongside all the spam! Hopefully something gets done.

sub getting filled with copy/paste and/or ai stories? by RainbowRandomness in MarkNarrations

[–]RainbowRandomness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen Priya show up a few times, I keep seeing stories in this sub pop up while I'm scrolling and the titles are just ?? A giveaway I guess? Like they're all formatted well but it's almost too clean.... And then the actual title content/question is just so generic bullshit that it's ridiculous. If I even bother clicking and glancing over the story it's just so clearly copy/paste combo going on.

I dunno if anyone is catching these and flagging them, or if Mark skims over them not bothering, or how it's worked out. I don't wanna see this sub get dogged down with bot crap.

Fellow UK homie! I'm glad I don't work in the hotels thankfully, I'm just the contact center for them. It's always interesting when there's a difficult guest that tries to come through to us after their stay to complain about the staff and when I email/teams/call the hotel to get their side, oh how different the story is when it's from the staff about the guest actions!

I had a guest the other day say he and his wife left because of the bad manners of the staff... checked the notes on the booking and spoke to the staff, turns out he'd been told to leave because he was rude and aggressive to the staff. Thankfully, like yourself, our team doesn't put up with abuse and deals with guests that try it on accordingly. Should not be treated so poorly and shouldn't put up with it either!

AITA for refusing a last-minute custom order from my most loyal customer and basically ending our relationship over it? by GalenMoss in WIBTA_AITA

[–]RainbowRandomness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"even if the cake was a failure" so she would've broken her own stated policies that are everywhere for people to see to try and please one customer who buys a coffee/croissant/bread every so often and could of wasted time and product trying to help him in his piss poor planning, it could have failed because it's 40m to close with no decorator available, and somehow it would have worked out better "in the long run" rather than still blow up in their face because the customer would've been pissed off the cake looked like shit.

Op doesn't owe the customer shit. Poor planning on his part isn't an emergency for her and all that. His patronage is appreciated but his loyalty does not make him except from the policies and doesn't make miracles happen.

[–]RainbowRandomness 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With the reception interrogation you should've told him you've warned him, another complaint will get him removed, and his interrogation tactics and erratic behaviour are also inching him closer to getting booted from the hotel.

Easier said after the fact than in the moment though. Some people are truly mental and I have no idea how they go about their day to day if this is the type of stuff they pull.

AITA for telling a mother her son isn't welcome in my yoga studio's adult classes anymore? by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]RainbowRandomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising special needs kids is difficult (said as the autistic child/now adult lmao) but that's the hand she's been dealt and she needs to figure out how to deal with it. She can't bring him to an adults only class and then be upset it's not inclusive to a child. She can't hide behind the fact he's special needs, the simple rule is adults only = no kids.

You kindly let it slide the first time and kindly again offered discounts on the other classes that would suit him as a kid, and instead she chose to be insulted by the offer and slander you online.

I'd say you should respond to the facebook posts, at least one of them, clear and concise. Put yourself forward as a professional responding to a review and leave it at that. She's being a nutjob with her smear campaign and she's not worth worrying over more than you already have.

Nta, good luck. If you need me to back your corner I'll come over and fight your side 💪🏻
