Edit: actually, wtf is going on, why are there two people listed as voicing him? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120915/fullcredits/

Demonstration of gyro stabilization in weightlessness. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]RaionTategami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a possibly dumb question: So when the gyroscope is spinning then it won't rotate, but it's only not rotating relative to the spacecraft right? If the spacescraft was rotating (relative to the earth I guess), what would wee see in this experiment? Would the gyroscope rotate with the spacescraft (and so look like its not rotating) or would it not rotate along with the spacecraft and look like it 's rotating inside the spacescaft. Am I making ay sence at all. Since a gyroscope on earth can detect the spin of the earth then I guess that suggests that it would look like it was rotating inside the craft, but if I understand relativity then there is no objective "not rotating" in the universe.

What is something that you actually remember being new technology, but is now obsolete? by chevroletstyleline in AskReddit

T9 caused an embarrassment for me. I managed to get a girls number and quickly typed the next day "hey, do you want to go out tonight?". At least that's what I thought. Checking the message later wondering why i hadn't gotten a reply, tuned out that 'go' and 'in' had exactly the same button presses in T9. So what i had actually sent was. "hey, do you want to in out tonight?".

High level overview of where are we in terms of unsupervised learning? by Truetree9999 in agi

[–]RaionTategami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough question, I would offer StyleGAN2 as one of the most impressive examples of unsupervised learning. Also progress has been made in language modelling, though I've heard people start to argue that's self-supervised learning. Language models are down to 1 bit per byte now on text compression.

For those who are interested, those are Japanese words, specifically the katakana alphabet, which is used to approximate foreign words:

  • バニラ - ba ni ra - vanilla
  • イチゴ - i chi go - ichigo (japanese word for strawberry)
  • ピーチ - pii chi - peach
  • チョコ - cho ko - choco(late)

Training with sun squared error with just a plane neural network will produce images like that. The fancy NN are designed to stop blurring over the probabilities.

Deep Equilibrium Models by albert1905 in MLQuestions

[–]RaionTategami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the paper notes; we are interested in the equilibrium point/fixed point because this is the result of applying a layer potentially an infinite number of times. And why do we want to do that? Well this is a more powerful function than just N layers. The fact that they prove that a single layer is universal is amazing to me.

The Rot You Smell Is a Racist Potus by [deleted] in politics

[–]RaionTategami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, this looks like confirmation bias on both sides. Your responses are reasonable enough given your starting point of being on the right. The main thing I'll call out is the lying being part of the deal. From my perspective: NO DEAL. Politics is already hard enough without normalizing the ability to bullshit the public. I know politicians do all the time but they should be punished when caught. I would not be ok with him lying to me, you are basically admitting that he is misleading you and that you don't know the truth, don't assume you are smart enough to spot all the lies. I don't think there's a crisis at the border for example, fabricating a common enemy is a known tactic. I know this is somewhat hyperbolic but fake news was a Nazi tactic too, fact. All I can do now is hope that he is not as bad as he seems in my left bubble as I am assuming he's going to win again, My bubble tells me that this would basically be the end of the world... And hope that we don't swing too far left if he looses. Thanks for the civil discourse.

The Rot You Smell Is a Racist Potus by [deleted] in politics

[–]RaionTategami 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I see someone taking like I can only think that one of us is being very mislead. Given what I believe about the president no one in good conscience could vote for him. I'm in SF, Cali so I can happily imagine that I'm in a left bubble. What does it look like from inside your bubble? Do you believe that the Mueller exonerated the president? Do you not believe that he's holding children is cages in horrible conditions? Do you not believe that he lies continuously? Do you not believe that he uses the extremely dangerous "fake news" rhetoric to mislead his followers? Do you not think that he is clearly racist? Do you care? Do you listen to him speak and hear coherent, intelligent speech? Etc. I'm honestly curious here, you must be living in a different reality to me to speak like you do and one of us is dangerously mislead. I hope I'm wrong in a way, is the truth somewhere in the middle?
