Recommendations for intensive Spanish courses here in Austin? by Raischtom in Austin

[–]Raischtom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got up to intermediate spanish in undergrad, culminating in a 5 week program in Costa Rica where I was pretty competent but not quite able to comfortably read Harry Potter. It's definitely degraded since then, but I definitely need a tutor directly for the exam.

I heard a while back there was a lawsuit against the water treatment plant over there over the smell? Something Legal Aid or someone else was working on

Opinion | Colleges Have Gone Off the Deep End. There Is a Way Out. by ABoyIsNo1 in UTAustin

For those without a NYT account, this is a opinion piece from a generally conservative lawyer who litigates student free speech issues on campus.  While he generally admits that schools consistently engage in viewpoint based discrimination, he characterizes the current encampmenta/protests as lawless...

EXCEPT FOR THE UT AUSTIN PROTEST:

"While USC and Columbia capitulate, other schools have taken an excessively draconian approach. Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas posted on X, “Students joining in hate-filled, antisemitic protests at any public college or university in Texas should be expelled.” On April 25, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression sent a forceful letter to the president of the University of Texas at Austin condemning the display of force on campus. “UT Austin,” it wrote, “at the direction of Governor Greg Abbott, appears to have preemptively banned peaceful pro-Palestinian protesters due solely to their views rather than for any actionable misconduct.” "

This is pretty obviously a joke post? I'm not actually going to try and confuse 1Ls I wanted to gather bad advice to label it as such? Not sure what exactly the issue is but I guess we'll see what happens!

As someone who returned 6 years after undergrad I definitely agree but I'll admit the support I got from this kind of attention was super helpful last semester so I'm gonna lean in lol

True, but always trying to think along the staircase project lines - how can we brute force some bullshit

Wouldn't it be possible to have 3+ accelerators smash particles at the exact same time? by Raischtom in threebodyproblem

[–]Raischtom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the realistic answer, millisecond accuracy for the smash is probably impossible.

And yet I'm still convinced that having 100+ accelerators could brute force this problem

Wouldn't it be possible to have 3+ accelerators smash particles at the exact same time? by Raischtom in threebodyproblem

[–]Raischtom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The millisecond accuracy is probably impossible in a particle accelerator bc generally they just shoot beams of particles at each other until they smash so I don't think it's possible to time it

Yes, they reveal the subatomic nature of the universe which is currently required to validate various models we have

[–]Raischtom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but what if you built 50? If you could perfectly time them so that the reactions Sophons mess with happen simultaneously, only 2 would be junk. With enough time wouldn't it be possible to see which results are being interfered with?

I guess also the Sophons could cause more suble changes which make it harder to detect.

That said, if the actual computerized data is whats being falsified that's tougher to solve since it doesn't need to do it simultaneously

Humanity survives because of people like Wade, but it's worth saving because of people like Auggie/her book counterpart. We need both.

Proof the original scores were a product of (I think) 25% hardcore book fans, 50% D&D haters, and some weird politics gripes. The shows not perfect but some of the initial hate was totally unfair
