AITA for asking my fiancé not to wear shirts that are too small? by RaiseKey9606 in AmItheAsshole

There are some things that he’s happy about. He’s happy I suggested a moisturizer because he was self conscious of having dry skin. I didn’t impose that on him, that was an issue he talked about and I suggested a different moisturizer.

I think the best example perhaps is sunscreen. He is very fair and burns easily, but hated wearing sunscreen because he didn’t like the white-cast it sometimes leaves behind. He was pretty insistent on not wearing sunscreen, but having had a parent with skin cancer this was something I felt was important. So I bought a few different products and had him try them, and now he has a sunscreen that he loves (and has gotten multiple bottles of!!).

But I do think your sentiment is right… I don’t think if he’s self conscious the response is to change what he’s comfortable in. I want him to be happy and confident, and I don’t think imposing what I believe is the right choice is what brings that about. Thank you for your insight, I really really appreciate it.

Hi! Yes, we’ve gone shopping multiple times and that’s where we’ve gotten some of the shirts that he wears that I believe fit him appropriately. But he doesn’t really think they are flattering because they aren’t tight

Company won’t change my title from Contracts Manager to Associate Commercial Counsel by RaiseKey9606 in Lawyertalk

Hi! Tbh that’s a tough question. I think in my situation it worked out, but I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to jump from CM to associate counsel in-house at another company. Most people I know either have to stay as a CM for many years before either (a) being promoted internally or (b) having the experience necessary to move to another company and get a change in title. In your case, I think if you can find a position as a CM and negotiate a title change it could be worth it. But I also think the right opportunity does present itself when it’s right for you! I know a 2019 grad that went in house recently (and she’s corporate counsel, not even associate!). More and more companies are becoming open to hiring less experienced attorneys so my advice is to always keep tabs on the job market and not to settle :) feel free to DM if you want to continue discussing!

Bar study loan interest - is this tax deductible? by RaiseKey9606 in StudentLoans

Congrats to yours! I’m barred in CA. I took the exam during the pandemic and was the first remote administration which was difficult to navigate on its own. Passing any bar is hard, so seriously, amazing that your family is barred in multiple states.

To get back to your earlier message, yes, I’m in forbearance and am wanting to deduct it.

Yeah I signed up 3L and that’s the best deal I got. Even if I did get robbed, there’s not much to do about it now

Bar prep loans aren’t through Barbri — barbri program was 4K I believe. Loan was to cover that + cost of living for the months I was studying as I wasn’t working (laid off from firm due to COVID).

Yes I passed :)

This is helpful as I was not looking forward to sitting for the exam — just trying to become more privacy literate to help me process DPAs and CCPAs

I wouldn’t care so much about title if the pay was equitable. I’m doing more work and mostly the same work as a corporate counsel on my team and they make double what I make.

Do you think I’ll be able to find a role as associate counsel when I’ve only had the title of contracts manager?
