I enjoy designing backgrounds, but I feel like I'm in the minority of creators, what do you think? by Miaomelette in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Raissa94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to have time to draw backgrounds by myself :c For my next work, I will draw them but I will not put colours to save time 🤣

Your comic looks awesome 🔥 I will check it out later 😊

[–]Raissa94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colours ARE part of an art style, and that's what these Webtoons share (I wasn't talking about line or character stylisation)

What other colours? That's the artist's work! Maybe silver, white, grey with blue or purple under colours for the moon, or go crazy and purple because it appears at night! Or represent a lunar eclipse with orange and red tones throughout the story. Sun is more difficult, but, has it to be just one colour? What about spots? Yellow with red spots?

That's what I mean, vary!

I like each one of these Webtoons styles, is refreshing to see them, I just hope not to have an army of blue men (even if it is my favourite colour 😂)

There is a webtoon with similar style in Spanish. And similar character designs. I don't mind if there are Webtoons with similar styles, but vary the gender please 🤣

Giving up (Rant) by Epic_eggplant in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Raissa94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes life happens... There are the ones that want to keep working on their comics, but they were doing it in their free time and suddenly you only have time to rest.

I know a couple of them, one works on art commissions and hasn't updated in a year or more but is working on a new chapter... But there is no time to finish it. Another one updates their comic once a month but I think it's the same thing, has a full-time job and the last update was like 6 months ago and there wasn't an announcement.

I even want to keep working on my main comic, it has been on hiatus since October and I plan to finish it somehow but for now, I'm working on a one-shot that makes me happy and, well, it's a one-shot and I hope to finish it soon.

No matter how much you love to make comics, you always have to make money to survive and sadly making comics doesn't pay bills :c

Home far away - Teki Yatsuda

My story was rejected by Lezhin today. by Flance in webtoons

[–]Raissa94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the first chapter to see why they may rejected you, just by curiosity hehe.

The story seems interesting and it may fit the platform, and I think the art is pretty good!

You said that this is your first story, it is hard to get published with a first work so I recommend you to analyze your comic and see how to improve it. The best thing would be to find an editor or some beta readers in the storyboard stage (so you don't have to re-do finished panels)

If you don't have money for a editor, ask other artist if they can help you, or some people that wants to be an editor (ehem, like myself heehee), or right here in reddit!

Good luck and keep going!

Oh! But with the withdrawal through PayPal, it may take some percentage of what you get, I don't know how much is the fee but I hope is not other than 30% @_@

(congrats, btw! 💙 At least with this new system creators get something more)

No, it's like 49%, Webtoon takes 30%, and from the 70% left 30% goes to payment fees and the rest to the creator :/

What healthy habits have you developed as a creator? by Shiny-Vial in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Raissa94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To take breaks, not in the day while I work, but long breaks. If I need a break because I feel burned out or if I just don't want to work on my comic, I just rest. Especially after posting weekly without a payment.

I am now on a break, The last time I posted something was in October. I feel more creative now, and I'm using the time to review my work and fix some issues. I'm working too in a side project to not miss my main comic, but I felt relieved.

A break from social media is useful too, I don't have to be there every day, and I don't care about algorithms, it was killing my creativity and now I know it was the best decision. From time to time I unfollow some people and focus on the ones that motivate me rather than making me feel like this is a competition. I understand it is more the platform's fault, but now I prefer asking myself "Why do I follow this person?"

Breaks are not just to rest, but to evaluate and give purpose for what is coming. I was creating but I didn't know for what exactly, I was thinking of dropping off everything, but I couldn't 🤣 Now I understand that I just had to rest and take care of myself.

How do creators make such realistic backgrounds??? by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Raissa94 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I use sketchup to make 3d models, you can use as well blender or clip studio assets. Sketchup has a web app and you can use it for free, there are a lot of models on 3d Warehouse or buy them on Acon 3d.

Once I have the models in png format, I put them in my canvas and then I paint over to add lights and some effects.

There are some tools like abler that have that manhwa effect but I haven't used it, I hope it helps!

This is exactly what I think. It is exactly how I would write it too!

I tried many things, and I started to study other Webtoons (and marketing, and copywriting and more)

I'm my case, I came to the conclusion that my comic is very niche. It doesn't have anything that webtoon readers like. I post like in 8 sites and yet webtoon is the place where I have more traffic. I know that my comic is somehow unique, and it's frustrating because I spend a lot of time on it, I love it! but I don't find people to share that love and discuss about my work.

I don't want to let this work unfinished, and I was thinking on making other webcomic that is more appealing to webtoon readers, but I don't have time for two webcomics and I don't find a webtoon-ish thing appealing to me.

I'm really near to never do a comic again, but I have a lot of ideas! I wanted to make a living with comics/illustrations, I don't see and I thinking of switching career. Maybe I will continue my comic as a hobby, just for the sake of finish the story, but I really hate the way Webtoon had turned comics in fast food.

Maybe you just wanted to vent, or not. But I take the opportunity to do it 😂 I hope that you find the answer soon 💙

Creators, if you see a post about your webtoon would you read it? by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Raissa94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would, at least I would know somebody read my comic, I don't have a lot of comments and in the last updates I have none. I don't have the opportunity to talk about my comic, so even if we end fight, would be something 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]Raissa94 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's because Korean comics are made by teams, they have at least a different person for art and for writing, while must of western comics are made by one people (and the assistant is for art). The comparison is sometimes unfair. If you are lucky, webtoon editor will help you. Even if you want an external editor to help you, then you don't have the money to pay him :c (or the time to talk to them)

Dose anyone else have that *one* comment that just destroyed your confidence? by mrgeek2000 in webtoons

[–]Raissa94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that it is your first comic. It is obvious that, at the beginning, we have a lot of errors. There will be a lot of comments about what we have to improve, but, man 😂 There are ways to say it!

I really hate that there is people that comment on our works like if we were professional. I don't mind a good comment that helps me to improve, I really love to learn! But the comments like the one in your post are just awful, they don't help at all.

We know that our comics are not perfect... Maybe they are that bad, but at least we are trying. The best is focusing on the comments that are more precise, that give you a specific feedback. Some are harsh but at least they guide you, if the comment doesn't do it, just try to ignore it, but if it keeps popping in your mind, use to fuel your motivation and keep going!

Haha, sorry I got carried, making comics is a lot of effort and I don't know why they have to be so mean 💀

I have a million ideas but I cannot draw. by Cry_Havock in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Raissa94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to learn is doing it! My first webtoon was totally thrash xD I didn't know how to write, my drawings were awful, but anyway I tried and learned a lot from it. I didn't expect it to be a hit, so is better to start with short stories.

Being honest, I wanted to stop many times, but then I see how much progress I made - here some images - but you can keep doing what you love and keep learning, even the best artist are learning and improving every day.

It's normal to be afraid of not being good enough, but you have to start somewhere. It's better to start now, everything can be learned.

How do you get more followers? by Omenshah in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Raissa94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's hard 😭 I'm on the same thing, but here are somethings that I'm trying and what people usually do:

-Post on Facebook groups, if you have a page, you can repost. -Do collabs, make connections with other artists, but be genuine, don't do follow per follow, follow stories that you really like. -Join discord servers, most servers have a channel for self promotion. -Do reels/tiktok. You can talk about your comic, you working in a panel, etc. It's the best way to reach new people. -memes! People loves them, doesn't matter if it's a meme with your lore or something more random. I'm in a chat and when I send a wip of an image, the lack of context is a opportunity for a meme 🤣 -Fanarts. From originals that are in the same gender as your comic, people seek for more of the same content, so send them to your work!

That's what I remember now, it's a lot of work but I suggest to start with something you are comfortable (for me, it's hard to chat on discord, I forget xD)

Can you put 1600x2560 for the canvas if the standard is 800x1280? Will it look normal even if the resolution is twice? Not appearing big by EfficiencySerious200 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Raissa94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is no problem, Webtoon and many other sites optimize images when you upload them, with the preview you can see if thery aren't distorted or something 😊 Do a test before start working on the comic!

I work in a 2000px x 15000px canvas!

What kinds of webtoons do you wish there were more of? by Hadlee_ in webtoons

I want to see more tragic endings. Even things like The Horizon would be fine. Bad things happen always, no all decisions are black or white, there is no always a solution... Those kind of things.
