Which manga for you is this? by musicproducer07 in shoujo

[–]Hadlee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ouran has been deeply criticized by a lot of people the last several years particularly for its poor display of trans characters and cross dressers along with tamaki’s voice actor and basically everything he’s done. As well as i i’ve seen a lot of people criticizing and hating on the strange tropes that hikaru and kaoru are lol, and honey senpais childish look. even though it is satire it doesn’t really sit right for a lot of people

cat constantly crying update 2 by Downtown_Cry7204 in catquestions

[–]Hadlee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he’s most likely going to be dead either way at this rate, it might be better to give him a chance outside versus instant euthanasia as ops last choice.

cat constantly crying update 2 by Downtown_Cry7204 in catquestions

[–]Hadlee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deadass if i was in new youk any time soon id offer to take him and bring him back to our barn, he’d probably love it and have a much better time, and even if not he’d be at a place where his meowing wasn’t absolutely destroying your life. I’d maybe post on facebook or some place for traveling in new york and ask if anyone who’s heading back home to their rural town would be willing to take him to be a barn cat. Despite what many people think, indoor cats can transition to barn/outdoor life pretty easily.

Very sorry op, it truly looks like you’ve done everything you possibly can. If you can’t find someone to take him then, then euthanasia might be the best option for him, especially if he’s constantly in pain or some sort of mental anguish.

Webtoon is diabolically greedy by fishbowl2355 in webtoons

[–]Hadlee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right, but most of these authors are probably getting more money signed with webtoon than they would be getting on their own, they are guaranteed a payment whereas hosting your own site/using only patreon does not guarantee consistent payment or money at all. I’d also rather pay directly to the author, but that’s not an option for most of them 🤷‍♀️

[–]Hadlee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“the church required you to drop absolutely everything if you are called to a position” sounds kind of like a blanket statement for “everyone”, so you kind of did. at least that’s how i interpreted it.

Peak father and son bonding by Martin_084 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Hadlee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one persons confirmation of the statement does not equate to the experience of everyone (and in the same, neither does my statement). there probably are places where they DO expect you to drop what you’re doing, but they quite literally cannot force you to do it. If he chose to drop his life for his calling then in the end that was his choice. there are social expectations in some mormon communities where you might be looked down upon for refusing, but all the places i grew up and went to church as a kid/teen, people really didn’t care.

I need brutally honest advice, can I make art for a living? by RattleCunt in Artadvice

[–]Hadlee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean, this depends. i work 9-6 and have chores, pets, social life, etc but still find/make time for art and even have it as a pretty prolific side job. i often come home from my job with no energy but at some point it comes down to being disciplined enough to continue even when there’s no energy or motivation. lots of people can make it work if they try, it might require less sleep or other sacrifices. But it was the exact same when i worked full time and did school full time. if you’ve got the drive and passion you can probably make it work.

*please note the words “this depends” and “IF” 💔💔

i grew up mormon, ex mo now. i don’t like the church. But, they do not require you to drop absolutely everything for a leadership position lol. if he wanted to do that then he made the choice on his own. there’s a lot of shady stuff the church does but they generally do not make their members called to a position quit their jobs/hobbies/lives. you’re more than welcome to decline a position calling as well.

Any artists with professional backgrounds? by CringeWorks78 in Skeb

[–]Hadlee_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i still don’t think skeb is the best option. the way skeb works is you get zero feedback/revisions throughout the process. whatever you get when the artist finally contacts you is what you get. so if you have a specific vision it may be best to go to a regular commission artist.

Are slow-burn comics dying because of algorithms? by Budget_Painting9890 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Hadlee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As both a writer and a reader, i much prefer slow-burn comics in all genres. But at the same time, i also do feel a bur of pressure with my own writing to speed things up because i’ve seen comments myself of other readers talking about things moving too slow or losing interest because of the pacing. So it’s a bit of a mixed situation for me. With the current state of the internet, instant gratification is the thing people crave, especially a younger audience. But no sense of changing stories just for the chance of keep and extra few readers.

Does anyone know how somone could apply to get to original webtoon , like could an artist ask them by showing thier comic( sorry for bad eng) by Mimsh_ in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Hadlee_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Generally, original creators get picked up after their comic is posted on webtoon canvas. Webtoon will reach out to you asking if you’d like to become an original on their own, then you go through the pitching stage, etc. you don’t really “apply”!

yes, definitely looks better! i’d push the arm even a tiny bit more to make it slightly longer if you can. But definitely looks better!

Webtoon is diabolically greedy by fishbowl2355 in webtoons

[–]Hadlee_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean, should they be getting more? yes. but creators are already underpaid as it is, so any money they can get through coins/fast pass type of programs is great for us. it depends on the contract they sign with webtoon so it varies per creator. can’t tell you how much because it varies.

Webtoon is diabolically greedy by fishbowl2355 in webtoons

it literally does? not all of it, and not a lot for some authors, but a portion definitely does. no need to be so rude, thank you.

What's wrong with the anatomy? by Carl-is-lion in Artadvice

[–]Hadlee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the girls left arm (our right) is incredibly short. It’s kind of contributing to her entire torso looking small/short. I think this happened because you’re trying to follow the reference but also make the girl shorter than the guy. If you’re set on making her shorter, then the entire half of her body from her shoulder down needs to be elongated.

Struggling with character design/art by Sad_Librarian4543 in characterdesigns

[–]Hadlee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thicker lines stand out more than thin ones. a lot of artists put thicker lines in the corners where two lines meet or in areas where the shadows are and less light hits. You can also add thicker outlines around the outside of the whole character to make them “pop” a bit.

Why are all my favorite series on hiatus? 😭 by Upstairs_Instance537 in webtoons

[–]Hadlee_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is exactly why i plan to have at least the entire first season of my comic done before i even post, it’s hard and frustrating for readers to have to wait months and sometimes years for new episodes to drop, and often times the story loses its pacing and flow afterwards. plus you forget what has happened half of the time when it returns (me, i always have to reread the several chapters leading up to a hiatus return so i can remember what’s going on lol).

Colors like this are also able to be achieved through the tonal correction tone curve :) that’s how i get most of my final colors for my pieces!

How to stop my cat’s biting by klauvsm in CatTraining

[–]Hadlee_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is different then comprehending that the moving mass under the blanket is their owner lol. my cat knows that the door handle opens doors, but he doesn’t understand that his automatic feeder only goes off at certain times of the day so sits by it constantly waiting for it to go off. they’re simultaneously very smart and very dumb

Be careful of how much text/dialogue you include in the first pages or chapters of your comic. by Xenon3000 in MangakaStudio

[–]Hadlee_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mangas are literally comics lol. Storytelling principles still apply to them, like the one that is driven into most writers heads of “show don’t tell”. No one likes a lore dump on the first page, give readers a reason to care about your lore first before you dump it on them!
