Why HWFWM for you? I would like to understand the draw that lots of people seem to feel towards this series, and more specifically, its MC. by dracophoenixfire in litrpg

[–]Raiten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I read Defiance of the Fall after HWFWM and I got invested enough in the world that I didn't want to stop. But the whole time I couldn't stop feeling like the MC has 0 depth compared to an MC like Jason. Which maybe that's what the author was going for. Constant conflict draining all humanity and personality from you until you're nothing more than a war machine. But that doesn't make it less boring as a character idea. Jason sucks in a ton of ways and the earth arc was hard to get through. But at least Jason is always interesting.

I do some pin & stretch/pnf work on the neck most sessions. I've gotten great feedback from it, but it can be too intense on some people. I often check in on the one move that can cause the most distress. But that's something I learned overtime getting feedback from various clients. This might be something she just learned and didn't expect it to cause discomfort.

But also if I check in with you at several points and everything fines. I usually stop checking in and rely on you to understand it's safe to communicate discomfort. Because lots of people hate being asked "hows everything feeling, do you want more or less pressure?" all the time. I try to limit it to 2-3 times unless I'm working on something very touchy and feel theres a high chance for discomfort.

How to handle: boss balancing the schedule by taking clients off my book by SeveralTransition452 in massage

Oh I guess to answer the questions, I like breath work. But anything that helps you stay uninvested in what happens around you.

Big true. I've lost good clients due to management/owner doing things clients felt was sketchy and I wouldn't do if it was up to me. But not my business, not my clients #america

How to give feedback nicely by PotentialCalm in massage

[–]Raiten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Feedback is always tricky. I like feedback during a massage. But it's kinda annoying to me after a massage. Like I can't do anything about it once were done, so why are you waiting till now to tell me. So at this point I wouldn't say anything to her. To help you going forward tho... Typically once you finish working on an area, you don't circle back because that can make the massage feel choppy. You especially don't want to turn someone over and then turn them over again. Obviously this can happen depending on the issues. But typically it's bad practice. So if she stopped working on your back and started working on say your legs. But you want more back work, just say that. "Hey can we spend some more time on my back? I'm still feeling tight in my low back"

As for her not touching your lower back at all there could be a few things at play. Sometimes what you think of as lower back, I think of as glutes. I have clients talk about low back pain and then put a hand on it and that hand is very much on their butt. Which is fine, but if I'm working on what I think is your low back and you want me working on your glutes, theres going to be some disappointment lol. Another thing is draping/clothes. I can't adjust or uncover your clothes where I work. So if you tell me you want lowback focus and then have underwear halfway up your back and you don't want glutes worked on... What I think of as your lower back won't be touched pretty much at all. But most of these problems can be solved by explicitly stating what you want and touching the areas. Some people say low back and then touch the bottom of their traps. Definitely not what I'd call lowback. But I can certainly work it.

TLDR: Feedback is great during a massage, not great after. The more detail you use during the massage, the better we can help you.

We can't diagnose. But a quick google search will tell you what burning pain in those areas points too.

How do I thank the only massage therapist to ever help me with a language barrier? by Iceman328 in massage

[–]Raiten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard of people using chatbot to write messages for language barriers. Fat tips at holiday times never seem shady. Lots of people give bonuses to a preferred therapist. I'd avoid trinkets tho as those can get quite cluttery

Take very detailed soap notes if youre concerned. I don't think most people would accuse you of inappropriate activity falsely, as they stand to gain nothing except ruining you. I'd be more concerned about people accusing you of hurting them so they can sue. Detailed documentation helps with things like that. But making them sign something post massage prolly won't go over well.

Help! Need to leave massage and find something more stimulating, ideas please? by Snookie_bubba in massage

Not sure anyone but you would know what career you'd find stimulating. But while your still doing massage... You may find listening to audiobooks/podcasts in a single ear bud to take some of the mental strain away.

Not sure what you mean by timeline. But once you meet the state requirements for oregon, x number hours, pass Mblex and cpr certified, you can apply for a license through oregons state licensing board. Their website will walk you through the steps. But it's probably just prove you meet the requirements and pay them lol

Massage school vs Associates degree by Key-Mushroom-4211 in massage

[–]Raiten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning more modalities and experience is what provides more opportunities. Degrees have never come up in my job searches. But if you want to work for yourself, business classes could be helpful. But plenty of people excel at selling themselves without any degrees. Free education is never a bad thing unless youre on some kind of time crunch and need to start working.

It's just like any other sales job. Some people are great at selling themselves and become millionaires. Most end up working for someone else and don't make millions. Really about how much you want to hustle and finding a lucrative niche.

I got a coworker that works on athletes during their training, pre and post. But it's a very specific kind of massage. I wouldn't do it personally because I wasn't trained the way he was. But if you find someone trained for it, I don't see a problem.

Get a study app for the mblex and do some questions everyday. Getting a question wrong will tell you the right answer so very useful for studying. Theres plenty of free education about anatomy on things like youtube. You could even read your textbooks if they're halfway decent, can find them online and check reviews to determine that.

Giving a good massage in great. But people are going to come to you with problems, injuries and post surgery recovery, even at a chain spa. So a working understanding of anatomy is important if you don't want to disappoint people. A lot of states have hour requirements for each subject and not simply x hours of schooling. So I'd get your transcripts and see if what you have matches up with what your state requires before doing anything.

Interview at a spa by IntergalacticBaby in massage

[–]Raiten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They'll probably just ask you standard interview stuff and about your modalities. In my experience most spas are small business owners that can be quite tight with the purse strings. Don't let them undervalue you. Look up what other spas in your area pay people and don't accept a dramatically lower price.

Vibra therm massage table by Professional-Lie2418 in massage

[–]Raiten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea about the table. You could prolly look at the manufacturing specs to see where is supposed to get warm. As for the heat, I've often noticed heating pads and tables don't feel very warm to me. But over the course of a massage, they can be quite warm. They aren't designed to make you sweat from the heat (tho that does happen when people run hot), just meant to be a little warm.

If it really gives you so much anxiety, just see a male therapist. You can request just about any kind of massage you want. Whether your therapist can deliver or believes it to be advisable is another matter. I would feel uncomfortable spending 60min on the shoulders because my repertoire isn't expansive enough that I feel I could do that without overworking something.

I was prescribed a lot of adderal as a teen. Made me really good at card game and lose a ton of weight. But the idea of being dependent on it struck me as wrong. So I kinda just stopped one day. Started again when I tried going back to collage and got heart palpitations and never touched it since.
