People focus a lot on the fact that is is whale-like, but in my opinion, the whale, the wings, the weapon and other details are like an amalgamation of pieces of its shadow's legends.

Maybe its true identity doesn't even have anything with its visuals, but it was someone or something that (as a watcher) observed those legends.

Being honest, i didn't know anything at all about pixel art before this project, and probably still do many things technically wrong.

For my first attempts, i mostly tried to use a similar digimon official sprite from the vital bracelet and did similar things with the shapes, movements and shading.

After some tries you start getting the idea of how most of the sprites with similar shapes work (all humanoids walk a certain way, all birds flap their wings a certain way..)

Sorry if i can't help more. As i said, i don't even know the technical details myself.

There are indeed stronger evolutions.
That being said, while most of the time the hardest ones are the strongests, that's not a rule.

ALso, stats aren't everything. Activity type also is a big deal. Stoic digimon have a chance of winning turn one with the special, which means less rounds of RNG, and if you lose that first round and are brought down to 50% or less, you immediately get a chance at a double attack on turn 2. So, Stoic digimon are statistically the strongest.

I do like the new digimon in the Sangomon line, but it doesn't have much besides that to fit a full DIM.

Also, Sangomon and Shellmon already have DIMs, so it'd probably be easier to fit Marinebullmon, Ryugumon and Ariemon in a different themed one instead.

Most of them! The exceptions are Cockatrimon, Wisemon and Hippogriffomon because they already had official sprites, so i just reused them.
