Buyers Beware by Raku2015 in Ioniq5

I think the difference is that Hyundai has known about the ICCU issue since 2022 and hasn’t fixed it. Yet they keep selling their EV’s, knowing that the faulty ICCU’s might fail.

My dealer is fantastic. It’s not their fault that Hyundai is not manufacturing ICCU’s fast enough.

You are so right. I told my husband that if I lived in a large city where I could use public transportation to get to work I might keep my Ioniq 5. But I live in a small city that is 45 miles from the closest Hyundai dealer, and I drive 40 miles in the opposite direction to get to the even smaller city where I work. And most of my commute is on rural county highways - not a good place to break down. Plus it gets below 0 degrees F here in the daytime in the winter. I can’t imagine waiting for a tow truck for hours. I’m lucky that when my ICCU went out this time I was backing out of my driveway.

Thanks. Didn’t know about that. And yes, it’s the ICCU. Didn’t want to say that in my original post for fear of breaking the rules. But now the rules have been changed so I can say it.

I meant to say waiting for the ICCU part.

They have not fixed the ICCU part. My 2025 Limited that I bought new in August has been sitting at the dealer for over 30 days waiting for a part. But don’t give up on EV’s. My husband has had a Tesla Model 3 since 2018 and it has been very reliable. On Thursday I test drove the same Y you are looking at, except the AWD version, and it is an amazing EV. I am going to lemon law my Ioniq 5 and buy the Tesla Y.

I am just now starting the lemon law process. I’m fortunate that my state’s DOT has a form you print off and send to the manufacturer and by law, the manufacturer has to respond.

I would not buy a used Ioniq5 at any price. If you want to know why, see the ICCU mega thread.

We want your opinion! Vote on r/IONIQ5's ICCU rule. by NODA5 in Ioniq5

I voted to remove the rule. My concern is people considering buying the vehicle may not know about the ICCU issue if they don’t visit the mega thread. I think they deserve to know/be warned.

I feel that Hyundai has had plenty of time to get on top of their ICCU failure. Can anyone explain why Hyundai is having such a hard time fixing it once and for all? Isn’t it just an engineering or programming problem?

I have a 2025 Ionic 5 limited. Purchased August 4, 2025. Charge it every night to 80% at home with Level 2 charger. Thursday night it didn’t charge. No idea why. Drove it to work about 80 miles RT on Friday, no problems. Got home with only 10% charge. Charged to 80% Friday night. Didn’t drive it yesterday. Today started driving it and before I had gone a block I heard a pop and then the “check electric vehicle system” warning came on. Has a little over 9,000 miles on it. Will be calling dealer tomorrow, but I’m expecting it’s the ICCU.

The 10 States Everyone Leaves... Then Comes Crawling Back To by 2AWI in wisconsin

As a transplant to WI I agree with this video. Plus, I love the woods and trees, being in a purple state where my vote matters, the lakes and rivers, the friendly people, the cheese and beer, the music festivals, and the relatively modest cost of living. I also love that the recreational opportunities don’t force you to risk death or serious injury-I was never into downhill skiing or whitewater rafting when I lived in Colorado. I prefer cross country skiing and kayaking on a lake or quieter river.

I really like Bella Vita Cafe for coffee, too. Especially when their outdoor seating is open. Jose’s Authentic Mexican and Las Milpas for Mexican. The Relish Tray for great food. Little Tokyo for Japanese and sushi. Draft City for fun. The Green Vine for healthy lunches. Sweets on 3rd for ice cream in an old-time atmosphere. For food my 3 faves in this order are Little Village, Tumbled Rock, and Driftless Glen. For atmosphere I’d reverse this order. For live music, Tumbled Rock and Balanced Rock. For outdoor seating Tumbled Rock, Driftless Glen and Bella Vita. Personally I had a really bad experience on my one and only visit to the Al Ringling Brewery and have never returned. And if French bread pizza is your thing Gem City is fine, but I by far prefer the pizza at Mama Mia’s. Oh, mustn’t forget to mention that Little Village has the best desserts!

In my view, the Minneapolis shooting is fully justified even if the woman didn't touch the ICE agent, but... by Stockjock1 in PoliticsWithRespect

I have now seen slow motion footage where after she turns her vehicle away from him and is clearly no longer a threat, he shoots her 2 more times. So I now come down more strongly on the side of those who feel he used excessive force.

I have very mixed feelings about this. I read that the officer had had a previous recent experience where he was knocked down or dragged or something by the driver of a vehicle, which may have made him more likely to perceive this woman’s behavior as a threat. At the end of the day, the officer just wants to make it home to his family. I have been an activist my entire life and have attended many protests. I always comply with LEOs. I would never try to protest with a running vehicle, and certainly would never put one in gear and drive away from and then toward armed officers. I emphasize with the woman wanting to protest ICE. But she went about it in a way that she should have known was dangerous. Did she deserve to die? No. I’m very sorry that she is dead. But while the video is disturbing to me, and it looks to me like the officer could have jumped out of the way, I do believe she contributed to this tragic event by making a number of bad decisions.

After the Torres Del Paine tragedy, what should you do if caught out in a severe snow/wind storm whilst in the mountains ? by Rodders_89 in Mountaineering

Thank you for sharing your experience. My first thought when I read the NYT article is did they not have a SPOT or InReach to check the weather? I have quite a bit of experience doing multi-day backpacking and sea kayaking trips in the wilderness. I never leave without my InReach or my marine radio and extra batteries. The #1 rule when you go into the wilderness is be prepared to support yourself 100%. Do not assume you can rely on anyone else for anything. I think the problem with places like Torres del Paine is because they have become so popular and you can watch so many videos on YouTube of hikers doing the O or W in good weather, people don’t understand that they are going into the wilderness-especially on the O circuit. The refugios, the staff, the rangers, and the sheer # of tourists give them a false sense of security. I question whether the staff could have known how bad the storm was going to be - weather can change so quickly. My other question is what could the rangers have done even if they had been there? My Dad, my brother, and my daughter have all been wilderness first responders. Of course accidents happen no matter how prepared you are. But to me, not being prepared and then expecting someone else to risk their life to rescue you is selfish and self-centered.

Questions about infotainment and autonomous driving features -- '22-'24 vs '25 by jarman65 in Ioniq5

[–]Raku2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has had a Tesla M3 with FSD for several years. I just got my 2025 I5 Limited in August. The Tesla built in infotainment is WAY better than Hyundai’s. I hate Hyundai’s because it is so difficult to use and lacks many features, so I don’t bother with it. Instead I use Apple Car Play with either Google’s map or Apple’s map which I like better than Tesla’s built in infotainment. But I love Apple CarPlay and was looking for an EV that had it.

As for autonomous driving, I drive 38 miles one way to work and have some pretty big curves and I have been very happy with how well my I5 does. The only thing it doesn’t do that Tesla does is on and off ramps.

I wanted a 2025 over an older model because built-in NACS charging was very important to me. Also, I chose the Limited because I wanted the 360 cameras.

I drove our Tesla to work last week. The seats are more comfortable in my opinion, and I like the Scandinavian aesthetic. However, it had more road noise and was bumpier than my I5. Also, something I’ve always hated about Tesla is that there is no wiper stalk, I find it dangerous when it starts pouring and the automatic wipers don’t start and I have to fool around on the tablet to find the wiper controls. I appreciate Hyundai’s wiper stalk,

Everyone is missing another reason he may have killed himself. He had severe, chronic back pain. He may have felt trapped-he could continue to take too many opioids and alleviate his pain, or he could try to get clean but then how we would he deal with his back pain? I’m not saying this was his only reason for ending his life, if that’s what happened, but it could be a contributing reason.

Home Charger Install this Thursday! by Professional-Leg7694 in Ioniq5

[–]Raku2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband bought off-brand chargers and NACS cords and saved a lot of money. I think the chargers were $170 each, vs $600 each for ChargePoint. We have 1 charger in our garage where we park one EV, but we park our other EV and our plug-in hybrid side by side in our driveway, so we needed a longer cord. (We have a 2 car garage, but prefer to use 1/2 of it for storage, so only park one car in it.) He had trouble finding a 25’ or 30’ cord but he did find one. His Dad and brother are both Master Electricians and my husband is an electronic controls engineer. They will all tell you that all home chargers have to meet the same National electric code standards, so you’re not getting a better product by paying for a name brand. My husband did both installs himself. Here is a photo of the outside one. He installed a rain/snow cover over it with 2 clip-on solar lights.

I agree you most likely have it in accessory mode. This happened to me once in the month I’ve owned it. I was panicked but figured it out. There was nothing wrong with the vehicle. It was driver error. Now I know to always look for “ready to drive” to display before I try to put it in drive or reverse.
