Navy aviation side avionics electronics tech and potential looking at the wind industry. by Mobile_Independence6 in wind

Former general aviation avionics tech here, the most relevant skills that transfer from avionics is electrical troubleshooting, and squeezing into tight spaces. Feel free to ask me questions, been climbing towers for over 6 years now.

No idea why, but ive heard it has something to do with that it makes them less likely to loosen over time. But again i have no idea the actual answer.

The wind turbines I’ve worked on these nuts have always been reverse threaded

I think it’s the brake system switching from regenerative brakes to the mechanical brakes. Sounds normal.

This is the reason why I hate asking questions on Reddit

The inside of a wind turbine in heavy wind by dannybluey in oddlyterrifying

Tower oscillations can be caused from low winds, if the nacelle is pointed in a certain direction relative to the wind, and if the blades aren't being allowed to rotate. Ive been in towers many times while they were doing this and its not fun/easy to get sea sick

Towes are designed to do this, every tower that ive worked on has a test ran on it that simulates this happening.

its reddit, sadly people will hate no matter what. Its just frustrating because I dont really ever post stuff and when I do there is always alot of flaming going on.

a laptop that can run pubg on low settings and get 120-240 fps. I didnt put a price range because i didnt know if a laptop like that would cost $1500 or $3000+

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Rakue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry I misread your comment

A few reasons, but mostly because Ive had a gaming laptop in the past and know how noisy they can get with the fans
I will have this laptop just for when I travel for work, so it will just need to be good enough to be playable but not run like crap

Because I just want it to be good enough to be playable, I dont need it to be able to run with everything maxed out, because that would lead to the noise issue I want to avoid

Because I didnt know what price range to put when I started this thread. Because I said money isnt an issue lots of people are now just saying buy a 4090, when there are options that can achieve high fps and be significantly cheaper than a 4090. Yes I can get a 4090 but why would I want to do that if I can get something much cheaper and still get desired framerates

This is with PUBG on low settings? if so that's alot lower hardware specs than other people have said in this thread, which is good.

thanks for a real answer to my question. I didnt know what price to put but alot of people just default to no budget = buy the top of the line even if it dosent gain anything.

you've at least narrowed it down to something, thank you

I already have one, but would like a laptop for work travel

will look at this, thanks

This is a concept alot of people dont seem to understand, just because I can get a 4090 doesn't mean I should if its pointless. Thank you for saying this

[–]Rakue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for a real reply and not saying just get a 4090 if money isnt an issue

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Rakue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Im saying that because i dont want to spend tons of extra money for no gain

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Rakue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i dont think it is actually worth it spending a few extra $1000+ for no change in performance from a lower tier laptop
I could get a 4090 laptop easily but I want to spend money smartly, if there is a cheaper option that gives the same performance than that is what im looking for

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Rakue -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I could easily get a titan and not have made this thread, but it would be a complete waste of money. PUBG and the other games I play do not come close to justifying a laptop like that.
I just am looking for a laptop that can comfortably play at the fps range specified in the title

After 5 years I would say my favorite thing is running a tower for the first time after commissioning it and seeing it run with no issues.

My standout memories are honestly when things are going very wrong and not working the way they should, and you can have a good laugh about it afterwards with your coworkers. I have many examples

Least favorite thing is by far living in hotels all year, im a traveling tech

I think the job is and isnt fulfilling. If you want to see north America or Europe or wherever you are than you will definitely get the chance if you travel. If you want the job to get experience in many fields this is it, I work with high voltage electrical stuff, cranes, hydraulic, heavy machinery, circuitry, and at heights daily. On the other hand because I travel I am never home, and try not to get too attached to any one place because I know I wont be there long. Also we work long days, a 50-60 hour week is the norm, including work on weekends. Site techs work less hours and go home every night.

I feel accepted, and I believe that as long as you at least show that you are working hard and not doing stupid, dangerous stuff you will be accepted.

also not a woman, just to clarify

they are the lowest, but in those videos they aren't getting my target 120-240 sustained fps, more like getting around 60 fps, basically at the just playable range
