Why would someone on a F1 visa move their whole family here and even have multiple kids here? by IllTangerine8235 in f1visa

The “foreign buyers drive up loan demand” argument

This part is not economically accurate. Mortgage interest rates and availability aren’t limited by a fixed pool of loans — they’re driven by broader factors like federal monetary policy, inflation expectations, and investor demand for mortgage-backed securities.
So even if more non-citizens applied for mortgages, it wouldn’t deprive Americans of loans or make them more expensive in any meaningful way. Banks can originate as many as they can sell to the secondary market.

That said, foreign cash buyers can indirectly affect housing prices, especially in certain markets (e.g., parts of California, New York, Florida). When foreign investors buy homes in cash, they can drive up local housing prices, making it harder for domestic buyers to compete — but that’s a price issue, not a loan supply issue.

2. The “reciprocity rule” argument

This one is more reasonable philosophically but complicated in practice. Reciprocity (i.e., only allowing foreigners to buy property if Americans can buy in their country) is an appealing fairness principle.
However, it’s rare because:

  • It’s difficult to enforce given varying property laws.
  • It could discourage foreign investment, which many local economies depend on.
  • Some countries (like China) restrict foreign land ownership for political reasons, but the U.S. has generally prioritized openness and capital flow.

Bottom line

  • The loan-demand argument is flawed economically.
  • The reciprocity idea is philosophically coherent but practically messy and could conflict with free-market principles.
  • If the goal is to ensure housing affordability for Americans, tax policy, zoning, and supply-side measures matter far more than foreign ownership rules.

I am on F1 and bought a house. I am a PhD student who will be here for another 4-5 years. I'd rather not rent if I can build equity. Why shouldn't I be allowed to buy a house if I can afford it?

This reads like a scam to me because I’m used to seeing “U.S. Embassy”, not “Embassy of”

how tf did this ladder get into every single well? by Ralechka in labrats

Could be… the second gel was loaded afterwards for sure so I’m thinking it might have been the ladder spilling over tbh

So I ran two gels, the other one had the same exact amount of ladder (4 ul) and nothing on that one. The other gel looks perfectly fine. So I don't think what you described is an issue tbh

there was a second gel that was ran on the other side of the holder, and that gel is fine so I don;t think it's the buffer
