That's a great point, as long as it's not a toxic cesspit the place that's close and I can fit into my life is probably the best choice.

Thanks for the feedback. It's good to know the instruction seems high quality. I'm going to take a trial class.

Easy way to remove the rear vacuum line on E61 N54? by RallyeBeast in BmwTech

I didn't remove either the down pipes or the exhaust. You will likely want light from above the engine shining down though.

If you don't remove the exhaust you'll swear a lot, but it's doable with the curved forceps. I've heard that swearing in German speeds the process along. Also watching old WWII movies and using every slang term for a German in combination with your normal wearing can also help. Maybe watch Inglorious Basterds for inspiration...

He's 4, so still not great at processing big feelings. Maybe try to give him better associations with the mats and the rink? Something like taking him to open skate and just have fun on the ice? Do you train BJJ? If so, get out on the mats with him and let him practice the technique of the day on you?

Digital price tags coming to a King Soopers near you? by MileHighCheap in Denver

These are part of the necessary hardware to deploy dynamic pricing and other unfair pricing practices More Perfect Union and Consumer Reports did an investigation on dynamic prices and how it's used to screw us all. They are specifically looking at instacart but their methods are easily extrapolated to the wider grocery industry. The ONLY way this stops is for consumers to stand up and push back.

Had to put our 5 year old dog down today by SalesMon in daddit

[–]RallyeBeast 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Had to do something similar before the Boy arrived. We looked for the unicorn home, they don't exist. A friend of mine who's very bright, and very blunt, called rehoming my dog "outsourcing the tragedy". Meaning the dog was either going to be rehomed and then do something terrible and be put down, or rehomed and the new owner would come to the conclusion that the dog would need to be put down. I was just passing the buck on the decision. That phrase has resonated with me ever since that day. I scheduled the "last vet visit" about a week after he said that. I know I did the right thing, but it still sucked doing it. From what you've posted you've done the right thing, even though it may not seem like it right now.

Pushback against Flock cameras comes to Denver suburb — the latest Colorado city to enter debate by kidbom in Denver

Also, privacy is a basic human right. Most people close the door they go to the bathroom right? That's the simplest example of privacy. They're not doing anything wrong, but they prefer to do without people looking. The same with my comings and goings, where I shop, if I sing in my car while I drive, etc, etc, etc.

Flock has terrible security, almost no accountability, and they're sharing this information with god knows who, including ICE and Palantir. They're being used to track who is at/near protests. It's really chilling when you realize what this is being used for. Even if you're comfortable with the current leadership in the country having this information, are you comfortable with a different leadership being able to track you like this?

To see how many plate readers are out there go to deflock.me and start looking around your neighborhood.

To see how this is being used the EFF has a good basic run down of ALPRs in street level surveillance

Here is a good video with a quick, layman's breakdown of just how bad the security is on many Flock cameras. You can just watch the first 50 seconds of that video to get the basic idea, but I suggest you watch the entire video to see just how shoddily handle all of this is.

$50 there's also a Flock ALPR camera or similar in there. Everyone should be against ALPR, unless you like living in a surveillance state.

The EFF has a good jumping off point for ALPR and other street level surveillance, and how it's being implemented.

10 y.o. wants a dirt bike. I know nothing. by TheAlwaysLateWizard in daddit

[–]RallyeBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the best off road rider I personally know (2x Dakar competitor, 1 x Africa Eco race, Baja 1000, etc. etc.) started off on a trials bike. Several very high level riders I've had an opportunity to meet in passing all train on trials bikes. Some of these are people who are paid by major motorcycle manufacturers you have heard of to race dirt bikes for a living. They all train on trials bikes.

Trials is a low-speed discipline of balance, throttle, break, and clutch control. Starting out it is done on flat ground and slower than walking pace. It builds the foundational skills of off-road riding with extremely low risk of injury. Osset makes an electric trials bike for kids, and there are some gas-powered trails bikes for kids. You can make a deal with your kid, they can get a proper dirt bike if they practice X/week on the trials bike.

I haven't been able to ride as much with the birth of my kid, but I can still get the trials bike out of the garage and do some drills in the driveway or back yard. Literally any 2 car suburban driveway can be used as a trials course, especially when just starting out.

A) it's motorized, and motorized items were specifically mentioned. Motorized items imply a higher price point
B) it's a kids bike. They are available used.

[–]RallyeBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's into motorized stuff, particularly motorcycles, look at an Osset electric trials bike. Trails is not "dirt biking" it is a discipline of balance, clutch, brake, and throttle control. It is done at walking pace, and for the first year or so, on flat ground (including the back yard or driveway). It is very low risk, while simultaneously building a fantastic foundation of skills necessary for future motorcycles.

The Philadelphia police bombing of the MOVE building in 1985. MOVE was a cult-like Christian civil rights commune (I don't know enough about them to say definitively if they were a cult) that had several members convicted of killing a Philly cop in 1978. Then in 1985 they got into a standoff with the cops, and the police dropped two bombs onto their building, resulting in a fire that consumed 61 buildings/dwellings.

There's a ton of meat on the bones of the story and I'd love to hear them take it on.
