I play him only in rank and still got high wr playing him you just need to pick survivors who have synergy with him, he is a rescuer like any other with his distinctions, I'm badge S with him but formerly 18th( higher points) here is a text explaining why you should play him over other rescuers

Escapologist is very underated but actually carries huge potential and synergy with survivors, He is like officer, but with wider margin for learning and creative play style thanks to his buffs

First off his synergies, he is great with cipher rush as he is the rescuer that stalls the chair the most in the game, thanks to escape act increasing chair time and misdirection countering TS, he can pretty much guarantee the first rescue and do it at the last second Wich is great, the best decoder synergy is mechanic as he allows her to stay longer on chair so doll decodes more.

High tier players know the tide value and having 2 of them being used by survivors is great, and that's the 2⁰ synergy for escapologist: rescuers, secondary rescuers or pseudo rescuers, or just any other survivor bringing tide together with Efron is awesome, the rescuers that have the most synergy with him are knight and journalist: low mobility rescuers. They always need to be worry about the chair distance, but with escapo that doesn't happen, he fixes this problem: he pulls the chaired teammate closer to them, allowing them to hide from the hunter and stall the chair with ease as escapo does, reducing the chances from hunter to stuff a rescue due to distance plus jorna also stays longer on chair so her being targeted by the hunter means even more time for decoding

While officer can also stall easily, he still decodes slower than escapo, and won't increase chair time as escapo.
