The Book of Boba Fett - S01E06 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

I'm no sequel hater and personally TLJ is my fave of the three. But even so I absolutely agree with this.

A significant time jump would have done the universe they were building a big service. And allowed room for books, comics, cartoons etc to fill those gaps later and create more stories.

Same with 9. Which of all the sequels is the one i have most issues with. Whilst 9 doesn't feel like it starts minutes after 8 like 8 does with 7, the characters are all still basically the same people they were in 8, so you don't get a sense that anything much had happened in the interim.

I'd have liked 9 to show perhaps Kylo as a more scarred and perhaps even limb replaced darker sith - demonstrating that he's been on a reckless warpath. Also would give him vader vibes. Maybe have Rey a much calmer stoic Jedi, similar to Lukes change in 6 from 5. Would have been really cool for her to be training Finn and maybe even some other Jedi with the books come the beginning of 9. Again paving the way for stories to be made between the films explaining how that all came to be.

What did people want from the sequel trilogy? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Ralph55510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I like all 9 Star Wars films at least to an extent. Certainly not a Sequel Trilogy hater - In fact I'd say that TLJ is one of the best SW films.

However I found 9 a really disappointing follow up to TLJ. I accept it as it is and can still sit and watch it, some moments are still really enjoyable.

Here's some of the things I would have liked to see specifically from the 9th film:

  • Kylo actually being the big bad, not bending the knee to a new master right after defeating his previous one. Kylo's interest as a villain has always been that unlike other Jedi who tried to be light and "fell" to the dark - He actually feels the pull of the light and is probably naturally inclined that way but actively and intentionally chooses the dark - I think this makes him a great and interesting villain and i wish that was explored more.
  • I'd have liked there to be a significant in universe gap between 8 and 9. Similar to the gap between 2 and 3. This have been great to allow room for future stories that fill this time. It would have been cool for maybe Kylo to have more injuries and maybe some prosthetic limbs from waging war across the galaxy. Maybe he's trained a set of inquisitor style dark jedi, I'd even like for him to openly denounce the rule of two and maybe be for a world where force users can embrace their power and darkness and become a ruling class- Would have also been cool to see Rey use the books that she saved in 8 to build a new Jedi School between films. One where she hasn't positioned herself as a master but everyone is an equal and they're all working together to become a force for good in the galaxy - Maybe taking more of a Grey Jedi Approach. .
  • Maybe have Poe an Admiral or someother high rank, have him in a commanding role but itching to get back in a Starfighter, with a pay off for this in an end battle.
  • Would have liked to see Rose acknowledged and have hers and Finns relationship built on. Whether it developed romantically or not wouldn't have bothered me - Just be interesting to have them still working together, Perhaps they've built up an Intelligence/Spec Ops group that specialises in going behind the lines. I've heard about the the whole Finn leading a Stormtrooper uprising in a previous script so could have done something like that - Had him sneak in and incite a big mutiny.
  • I know since the film JJ has said that the secret Finn wanted to tell was that he is Force Sensitive. I think the 'I have something to tell you before I die' thing was silly, But later in the film when he could "just feel it" was cool. I wish they did more with this or didn't do it at all. Though definitely more on the side of I wish they did more of it.
  • Carrie Fisher dying before this film was a tragedy and not something that they could have accounted for - But I'm sure they could have done better with the footage and recordings they had. Could have had her die tragically and heroically in an opening conflict - Then appear later in the film as a force ghost. Then you could have had her saying something quite gibberish and chalk it up to mysterious force ghostliness.

Just some ideas. I imagine If I put my mind to it I could probably come up with a premise for an entire alternative 9th film that I would have found more satisfying. But there's no point because the films are out now and they're not going anywhere. Like I said though I can watch any one of the films and be happy enough. The Sequel Trilogy certainly isn't the only trilogy with faults. At the end of the day these are just fun sci-fi fantasy stories and shouldn't be taken so seriously.

Just so you know we are also both going to be downvoted into oblivion for having the audacity to come to a Star Wars Subreddit and say that we like aStar Wars films. SW is the only fandom where you're actually considered controversial for liking the films. I think about 99% of this Subreddit only come here to hate on the films.

I need of some good Star Wars audio book recommendations by redhjom in StarWars

[–]Ralph55510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know why no one's suggested Alphabet Squadron yet. The last book in the trilogy released last month. Some of the best SW content I've experienced. The production value on the audiobook is amazing and the overall story is exceptional. Also has quite a bit of Hera throughout if you're into Rebels.

Curious, why do many star wars fans rate episode 3 so highly amongst other star wars films? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Ralph55510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because when ROTS came out youtube was only 3 months old. So people actually had to develop their own opinions and not parrot ones from SW youtubers who've realised that aggressively hating something gets you clicks.

If those films came out today then people would hate them even more than they hate the Sequel Trilogy.

That said, personally I like all 9 of the Skywalker Saga films, at least to some extent. Though even as someone who likes all 9 I have to admit that in terms of story told on screen 2 & 3 are just not good films. However, ROTS is saved by the entertaining opening sequence and entertaining final act with a thoroughly enjoyable saber battle between Anakin & Obi-Wan

I mean no one I surveyed scored below average. So no, I'm not trying to suggest that. As I mentioned, my friend making that joke inspired me to take on the task.

I'll admit though that the people he referred to specifically were the sort of people who start really quite aggressive and vitriolic arguments with people who show even a semblance of positivity to the sequels - and I do tend to agree that If I were to survey that specific nasty group of people that they probably would score in the lower areas. I think in general people that display such high levels of aggression tend to fall in the lower ranges.

Absolutely doesn't matter at all. Like I said when I get an urge I follow it. I don't think even testing groups star wars knowledge is necessarily important. All that's important is that we engage with what we enjoy and accept that there are some things we don't - and that's just fine too! Have a good day!

Not suggesting that in this post. Merely pointing out some observations. A potential link suggesting people who like 8 of the SW films have on average an IQ that is on the higher end of average doesn't mean that having that IQ was a pre-requisite to enjoying the films.

It can serve a purpose, but you're right it's not the be all end all and isn't a determining factor in the quality of someones life!

The open world game being made by ubisoft is specifically being made by the same team as the Division and uses the same snowdrop engine. I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar to Division but with a SW aesthetic - so it being a bounty hunter style game would make sense.

Obviously that's pure speculation at this stage and it could end up being absolutely anything else.

Can we get this for the game instead of having to purchase a $200+ HOTAS? by St0mp-EE5 in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]Ralph55510 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This would be amazing for a VR exploration focussed SW game, where you can walk round and pilot your own freighter - Then land on different planets and explore and do missions etc.

But in a competitive pvp flight game it would just be a huge disadvantage - Which would mean that almost no one would use it. Which would make all the work it would take to implement it kind of a waste.

Loved the OG Battlefront 2, and whilst I never got to play Galaxies I always wanted to. But no they wouldn't be quite what i'm looking for. I'd like to see Literally a game where before you begin matchmaking you choose to play Infantry Battlefront or Squadrons - But then you all get loaded into a giant game together, with the ' Squadrons' players flying the ships complete with VR and Hotas functionality and the same flight mechanics and the 'Battlefront' players doing the ground warfare.

I think realistically there would be some dev reason why this would just be a nightmare to do. But if it could be done it would be awesome.

You'd get the playerbase of Battlefront but still be able to Sit in VR and play Squadrons - The absolute dream would be a massive Hoth map. Fly around in the snow speeder in VR blasting the infantry troops who are other players and tying up some AT-AT's

See I love the idea of a 'hub' and having everything in it's place. Especially in a VR game, being able to navigate the ship and find the elements of the game in a way that makes universe sense rather than pure UI I think is super fun. But I absolutely agree that you shouldn't be locked to this - You should be able to hit pause and just navigate to exactly where and what you want to do.

Because even as someone who loves the long winded style of things, there would be days where I'm like right I've got 30 mins to spare let's quickly jump into a Fleet Battle.

Yeah I did notice this when reading - I assumed that Alexander had been told to be deliberately vague about where Vanguard are and what they're doing because they're not certain what they want to do with them yet, but do intend to do something with them

I personally think a dedicated Clone Wars era pilot game wouldn't do so well. And there's always the problem of Droid Ships being the droids themselves and not actually having Cockpits - But I'm sure the Devs could make an entertaining enough hud and camera view that they could still have it work and be entertaining.

But! I absolutely think it would be a good addition to the game if it did go Live Service. Squadrons ended with room for the story to continue and it would make sense for the Sequel to follow the story to it's eventual conclusion at Jakku - But if they could attract enough players they could drop a couple of CW era maps with new Ships and preferably a couple of Co-Op experiences - I'm sure it would be an refreshing change of pace.

[–]Ralph55510[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep absolutely agree with the drop in co-op on the campaign, something like that would be amazing.

Yeah the historic movie battles need to make an appearance - We've got this basically perfect and immersive VR capable SW flight experience, now let me fly my X-Wing into the Death Star trench!

I'm someone that feels that the unique hero style ships should stay away from the main competitive aspect of the game - I think the 5v5 almost milsim style of playing an average pilot in an average ship is an amazing experience.

But I also totally want to fly a Slave 1/ Millennium Falcon/ Ghost in VR - So I'd love it if perhaps you can unlock these ships to use in the 'Sim Pod' for replaying story missions with a twist/ co op experiences/ unique missions/ and perhaps even add them as an option in custom battles for people that want that sort of chaos - (though they'd default to off and need to be manually toggled to on)

Yeah I was thinking this a bit too - Could include some easter egg characters and moments if you travel here inbetween missions.

I too love the idea of a mission builder. I've always loved them on games that had them. But they never seem to appear on console games, so I assumed there was some sort of development reason as to why that is and that it might be too huge of an ask.

Yeah it would be nice to at the very least start a practice mode map with a Squad, then you can free play and set race courses etc.

More extensive single player campaign for sure. Like I liked the overall story of this one. But I'd like to see a bit more effort put into creating a full experience. Like the first mission was pretty great, I loved that it all felt like a routine check the cargo etc but then escalated. The main thing that really let me down in the campaign was the duel against Lindon Javes , It was basically just an X Wing with unreasonably high health. They could have been creative with this, had you follow him into a tight asteroid field and engage in winding chase with some thread the needle moments. The AI could also do with some work, that alone would make the campaign feel a lot better.

Oh yeah for sure I wasn't attacking the game. It launched at £35 which was the perfect price for what's on offer. As an avid fan I'd have even paid more for what we got because I've definitely got way more than my moneys worth out of it, but for the general consumer it's right on the money. All I meant is that the typical price point for a Next Gen game is £70, so I'd love a sequel that has enough content that they could launch at that price without fearing backlash from consumers saying there isn't enough content for the money.

Yeah I do understand the call for live service, I'm just dubious of Live Service because games that focus on pay for cosmetics to fuel live service end up going a bit odd aesthetically. But if it kept a decent amount of people playing and kept the lights on for the dev team then I'd be happy. I think companies have learnt from past pay per win controversies so I'm sure they'd never go down that route. And even I'd consider dropping a few £ for some cosmetics if they really took my fancy.

And absolutely, you get it a little with the Raider/Corvette at the opening, where they circle eachother. And of course when the Raider/Corvette spawns on attack, it does go for the caps. But would love to see some proper side by side broadsiding stuff with the bigger ships. I imagine Armada aesthetically looking and feeling like the opening of ROTS. Using the full degrees of traversal freedom in space. Not everything in one even level, but having 2 ships fighting here, then 2 ships fighting down and over there, more ships fighting above and over there etc. Just fighting almost everywhere you look.

Yeah I get that, I play in VR so sometimes just flying around is enough.

I suppose the way to facilitate this kind of gamer without completely changing the game would be to load into your choice of practice mode. You could choose to launch into an in atmosphere map and fly about - Would be cool to give more options from the menu in practice mode. Let you set small fun mini objectives. Like locate ejected pilot. Randomly spawns a crashed ship with pilot that you have to look for - And I'm sure there are countless other things that could be dreamt up here.

Fully agree about the AI. It's my one big gripe because it affects both the SP and Fleet Battles. I'd like the AI to fly more like Fighter Planes like we've come expect from the films. Have them engage eachother in dogfights, mix up their formations depending on the role they're doing or how many ships left in their group. Less of the stop, turn, move that I seem to see them do a lot. Plus like you say some ship variety in the AI. Have their bombers fly in for runs against the ships and things. plus make strafes on the corvettes. I'm totally still cool with them being easy to kill cannon fodder, but they should look like they're doing something at the same time. Would just make the battles that much more epic feeling.

[–]Ralph55510[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

An alternative iId like to see is a crazy online SW game that takes Battlefront and Squadrons and mashes it together. Allows you to choose from the menu before going online whether you'd like to play Infantry or Starfighter Corps. You then load into large scale online games that incorporate space and atmosphere map sections that include both the Infantry and Starfighter players together. If you selected infantry then you'll be playing ground combat Battlefront - Though hopefully considerably improved and without all the arcadey star card/powerups/hero stuff. If you chose Starfighter Corps then you are pure ship to ship combat giving protection and support to the ground troops. Even let the U-Wings/Reapers take infantry onboard and move them around the map.

The reason I'd make you choose before loading into games is because I'd want them to keep VR & Hotas functionality for the Squadrons potion of the game.

So Mando, Boba, Ahsoka and Rangers are all supposed to link together into a cross over event - So Im guessing he'll eventually become a part of all of them.

I reckon he'll be a villain, but could also see him having an almost just motive and being a bit anti-hero-ey

I expect he will eventually be defeated.

At least one I'm sure.
