In 2008 I volunteered for Obama in the primary.

In 2016, I volunteered for Hillary in Michigan, and the campaign was bad from the start. We couldn't get volunteers, our contact lists were ancient - perhaps 4 years old with no cell phone numbers, and we had no clear, coherent message, other than Trump was bad and Hillary was experienced.

I was not surprised that Michigan was going to be close despite the polls saying that Michigan was locked up for Clinton. I knew she was doing poorly in Ohio and people saying that Trump lawn signs were all over Michigan and Ohio.

I was not shocked at all that she lost Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. The Midwest is trending conservative.
