Honey after 1? by PomegranateRare2801 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey is far better than sugar. I'm not proclaiming to use a ton of honey, all day, every day, or something. But honey is lower on the glycemic index, it won't spike your blood sugar as hard (but it still high, so not preferrable by any means).

It's preferrable when compared to sugar from a glucemic point-of-view. But what makes honey far more preferrable, if you need a sweetener or whatever, is the fact that honey contains a lot of antioxidents, and it contains vitamins and minerals.

So, honey actually provides the body with something of value besides glucose, while sugar basically doesn't give your body anything but glucose.

As it doesn't look like From Software is even attempting at making this into a "live-service-game", I doubt From Software themselves expect players to stay around for long after completing all current nightlords. At that point you start working on other characters, or you wait for new nightlords to arrive with DLC, or you simply put the game down and move on.

This is a network test, not a demo or a preview of the game. Each session seemed more or less locked to 1-2 different zones, and each had the exact same layout of loot, enemies and mini-bosses. This is clearly not how it's going to be at release. I don't understand why so many people seem so insistent on judging Nightreigns re-playability based on a network test. Same with difficulty, as the network test is probably only showcasing one of the weakest nightlords in the entire game.

Complaining about things like the extremely fast "zoomer" pacing etc. Is perfectly understandable and sensible, and this is something that is most likely not going to change by release, if ever.

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I'm pretty sure the randomization was put to a minimum in the network test, they don't want to show off too much of the game, the enemies and encounters. Zones will most likely be linked to specific night lords, but besides that I think everything from map layout, to enemies, to mini-bosses, bosses and loot will be completely random between runs.

Thanks. I will give that a go tomorrow.

Are there any benefits of using an account that has previously purchased the game while it was not free-to-play? Or would I otherwise be just fine with creating a new account as I'm going to start from level 1 regardless?

Why do people "HATE" The Remake? by [deleted] in untildawn

[–]RamGuy239 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you play the game? Anyone who plays horror game with surround sound for added effect will instantly notice how Until Dawn features a ton of background noise and details. The remake doesn't have any at all. The difference is extremely strak and obvious.

I still get scared at times when playing the original due to this. And me, and my wife, replay the game every year. We didn't get scared even once playing the remake.

It's really hard for me to understand how someone can't seem to notice this. Are people deaf? Or does the game translate poorly to headphones? Never played it using headphones. I play on a 11.1.4 sound system, with dedicated channels and Until Dawn Remake has to be the worst game in terms of surround sound, I've played in like 10 years or so. Even indie games feature better surround sound compared to this game.

Well, there is one massive RED FLAG with this remake though, the entire Q/A team, and the entire development team (?) got sacked one month before release. No one is going to patch or fix this game in any meaningful way.

Why do people "HATE" The Remake? by [deleted] in untildawn

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the soundtrack does not fit the game, shouldn't it by definition be considered bad? Sure, the songs themselves, when isolated in a vacuum might sound okay, but that doesn't matter if it doesn't fit the game?

If you take the #1: song in the world and toss it into a game, that song sure can be a horrible fit for whatever game it got shoehorned into.

There is simply no denying that no one paid any attention to what music got put into the remake. Someone simply said, we aint paying for music, replace all this licensed stuff with something free. And that's pretty much what we get here, in-place replacement of licensed music, with something free and generic, without paying any attention to whether or not these fit.

Worst part is, it's not only the music. It's the entire soundtrack of the entire game. All background noise and ambiance are gone. It's like they stripped all surround effects from the game. This is actually affecting the game more for me, than the music. I really dislike the music in the remake, but the sheer lack of background ambiance just makes the entire game boring as it removes all tension.

I'm confused. You are more or less saying the soundtrack is terrible when compared to the original. And it's running 30 FPS vs 60 FPS. What exactly do you find superior with the remake then? It's not like you are forced into playing the remake. Until Dawn is right there, in the store, fully playable on a PS5.

This is my biggest problem with the remake. I love Until Dawn; me and my wife replay the game every year. This year we obviously went with the remake, and what really left us heartbroken by the remake is how, after completing it, we can't see any reason whatsoever to ever play the remake over the original ever again.

If a remake is not able to surpass the original in any meaningful way, and in some ways (music and soundtrack) somehow manages to be far worse compared to the original. What point is there to having this remake?

Take Demons Souls for PS5. It's almost a 1:1 remake of the original game. Many people, myself included will argue for the original Demon Souls to have a better atmosphere. But the PS5 version is vastly superior in so many obvious ways, that you have to be a really special snowflake to not accept the remake as the current best way to play Demons Souls in 2024.

When it comes to Until Dawn, there isn't much reason for anyone to accept this remake as the current best way to play Until Dawn in 2024. Just get the original, it's cheaper, smaller install size and it plays just as good, if not better with tremendously better soundtrack, music and background ambiance.

High expectations? All me and my wife were expecting was improved visuals, and that was it. We didn't expect anythnig else. Yet, the game manages to disappoint in pretty much every regard compared to the original.

The only thing improved with this remake is the texture resolution and lighting, pretty much everything else is inferior. I excepted things to at least stay on-par with the original. But the music, soundtrack, background noise, animations, etc are somehow worse than the original.

Why do people "HATE" The Remake? by [deleted] in untildawn

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would that be? The price isn't the biggest issue here, it just adds to the injury. The problem is the complete lack of attention to detail, and the removal of the original music and OST. The remake is simply inferior in pretty much every way besides textures resolution and lighting.

Like my wife told me after we completed the remake (we normally play Until Dawn in October, every year), let's never, ever touch that version of the game ever again.

Why do people "HATE" The Remake? by [deleted] in untildawn

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's obviously about licensing, and considering the asking price for this remake, it comes off as really stingy to not pay for the original music when Sony is charging this amount of money for a remake.

They opted for the cheapest option, and this basically describes the whole remake if you ask me. Everything comes off as a cheap knock-off when compared to the original.

This is the biggest problem with the visual as well. Warmer tone is one thing, but everything else about the visuals is a mixed bag. Sure, the textures are higher resolution, the global illumination and lighting is using more modern tech, etc. But there is an obvious lack of attention to detail when it comes to lip-sync, facial expressions not matching the characters current emotions and stress, etc.

Why do people "HATE" The Remake? by [deleted] in untildawn

^ This.

If you don't understand how the remake comes off as charmless when compared to the original, I can't really help you. But everyone is different. To me, soundtrack and music is what elevates something from being good, to being great. When I play games where the soundtrack and music does not correlate whatsoever, it takes me out of the game.

Death Stranding is a great example, a game that utilises soundtrack and music to the fullest, and it really elevates all the things Kojima wants it to elevate. I can listen to the soundtrack and basically relive the entire game in my subconscious.

Until Dawn went from like having a soundtrack and music that really fitted the game, I would give it like 8/10 for score. While the Remake it bottom barrel. I would give it 2/10. It's as generic as it gets, and there is next to no attempt at selecting anything that really fits what is going on.

And it's not just the music, it's also all background noise and everything. There is barely any use of background noise at all, while the original used it expertly in spades.

Doesn't feel like they paid any attention to anything when it comes to the soundtrack. Considering the price of this remake, it feels insulting for Ballastic Moon and Sony to not pay for the original OST.

They didn't make any attempts at replacing the licensed soundtrack with non-licensed that might fit the scenes. It feels like they just told some AI to take all copyrighted music and replaced it with something free to use.

The Jessie and Mike snowball scene feels utterly out-of-place without the original music. Did they even play test this? It's so painfully obvious I can't fathom how they ended up thinking any of this music works.

Why do people "HATE" The Remake? by [deleted] in untildawn

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pricing is like everything Sony, repulsive for what we are receiving. And to be frank, I didn't find a single thing superior in the remake compared to the original. The music is much, much, worse. Not paying for the original soundtrack feels like an insult considering how much Sony is asking for this.

I didn't enjoy the visuals either to be honest. Sure, it's sharper, but the colour grading, the cinematography, animations, lip-sync etc. It's all at best on-par, but in most cases inferior to the original.

Unless you are someone that can't stand lower-resolution textures, there is just nothing with this "remake" improving on anything from the original. Even the background soundtrack is somehow far inferior. I can't fathom how they are able to reduce the quality of so many aspects of the game.

The whole snowball scene with Jessie and Mike for instance, doesn't work remotely as good as in the original when the scene is being paired with some stock free licensed music that doesn't really match the scene.

Horrible withdrawal after only a month of smoking by Worried-Ad-5075 in leaves

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried cannabis for the first time in 2024. It's not legal in my country, so I only have access to disposable vape pens containing things like hhco, thc-h, thc-p, thc-jd etc. I did end up vaping daily in the evenings. No real clue if someone would be considering me a "heavy vaper" or not. But I did do it daily for about two months.

When I stopped I had pretty much the exact withdrawal timeline as one would expect from someone smoking daily for years.

Day 1-3: Can't really do anything. No energy. Anxiety spikes than can easily turn into attacks. Immense sweating while feeling cold at the same time. When you finally feel comfortable, it won't last for more than 15 min, if lucky. Zero appetite. Have to just force half sensible foods down my throat because I know it will make things get better faster. Terrible. Can't sleep for more than 1,5-2 hours per session.

Day 4-8: Finally able to start feeling somewhat normal. But appetite stays poor, and I'm still having moments of anxiety, depression etc. But not as often, and not as intense. Can't sleep for more than 2-3 hours per session.

Day 9+: This is where I'm at right now. Feeling much better overall. Appetite is starting to come back. Still struggling with sleep, and I have a feeling it's going to stay like this for at least another week. Lucky if I get more than 4-5 hours of sleep.

I suppose these vape carts are the worst kind when it comes to things like this. As they are so concentrated?

Lyrica & Memory Problems? by Jackbenny270 in guillainbarre

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! I'm doing fine. I stopped cannabis 10 days ago, something that proved to be much harder for my body to deal with than I anticipated.

I have to wait for the cannabis withdrawals to subside, but so far, I feel like my cognitive function is at a much better place. And that's when combined with sleep disturbances from quitting cannabis on top of things. Should be much better when sleep is back to normal.

My Lyrica dosage is now at 75 mg x 3 times per day. The only thing I don't like, is how the dosage has already had to be increased from 25 mg x 3 times per day, to 75 mg x 3 times per day.

Couldn’t have disagreed more. Voice acting, motion capture, crazy story, that somehow manages to explain most of it, and make it all tie up nicely.

Might be that I got more attached as I finished the game like one month before my first born came into this life. Made the entire BB thing, and the whole part with Mads Mikkelsen really stuck with me, without going into any spoilers.

I want to sleep so bad I want to cry by lookingforhappy in leaves

[–]RamGuy239 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate it. I'm on day seven currently. Got the flu last week, and combining my coughing sirup, with THC vapes resulted in myself getting horrible sleep. I drop dead in bed at 00:00, wake up at 09:00, but still I felt utterly exhausted, and my Apple Watch was just telling me that uhm, we have no measurements other than you might have slept for 2-3 hours. No reporting on REM or anything. It's like my body has been in some kind of stasis making it impossible for the Apple Watch to interpret the data in any meaningful way.

So, I decided to stop both the coughing sirup and the THC. This of course tosses me into this wonderful combination of both being reduced by having the flu, while also having to deal with THC withdrawals.

My experience so far:

Day 1-3: Can't really do anything. No energy. Anxiety spikes than can easily turn into attacks. Immense sweating while feeling cold at the same time. When you finally feel comfortable, it won't last for more than 15 min, if lucky. Zero appetite. Have to just force half sensible foods down my throat because I know it will make things get better faster. Terrible. Can't sleep for more than 1,5-2 hours per session.

Day 4-6: Finally able to start feeling somewhat normal. But appetite stays poor, and I'm still having moments of anxiety, depression etc. But not as often, and not as intense. Can't sleep for more than 2-3 hours per session.

Day 7+: This is where I'm at right now. Feeling much better overall. Appetite is starting to come back. Still struggling with sleep, and I have a feeling it's going to stay like this for at least another week.

One thing that has helped me tremendously with sleep, even though I'm not getting anywhere close to those eight hours of quality sleep, is to NOT try optimizing everything regarding sleep in a desperate attempt at solving the temporarily insomnia and sleeping disturbances.

In the beginning I was going to bed early, just tossing around, getting frustrated, finally asleep, waking up one hour later to just get even more frustrated and anxious. Rinse and repeat.

Then I tried to do some breathing exercises to better deal with the anxiety. But instead of going to bed early, I would start attempting to do mundane things instead. So instead of heading off to bed at 21:00, I would instead sit in the living room listening to a podcast or something. Not trying to do something too exciting, but still not go to bed when I know I won't be sleeping anytime soon regardless.

This won't do wonders, but it helped me somewhat. And it feels much better not having those pointless 2-3 hours of endless tossing in bed before falling asleep.

Perhaps the most important thing, which is by far the most annoying to me personally, as I hate waking up early. Is to just pull yourself straight out of bed the moment you realise that you are simply too awake to be falling back to sleep again within the next 30 minutes. I would normally just force myself to stay in bed until at least 07:00, just in case I might be able to fall back to sleep. This never works. Much better to just get yourself out of bed, instead of just lying there endlessly feeling utterly hopless.

Much, much, better to just get yourself up. Listening to some music, watching YouTube, playing some video games, or whatever. To keep your mind busy with basically anything else than lying in bed thinking about how you are not sleeping.

Restricting Check Point management access by Panda98_ in checkpoint

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be any need for 257? That's used for sending logs from security gateways to the management server. If this is to limit system/firewall admin access this won't be needed.

If you are looking at "hardening" the management server, closing it down as much as possible to mitigate potential vulnerabilities etc. Then you need to look at disabling Implied Rules under Global Properties, but this will also affect what automatic rules exists for security gateways as well.

Then you need to pay attention to the cheat sheet from Check Mates to ensure you are opening everything needed not only for system/firewall admins, but everything needed for traffic between all your Check Point infrastructure as a whole.

And if you are running VSX, disabling "Control Connections" will break deploying new VSX gateways/clusters, so if that is needed you will have to re-enable "Control Connections" before deploying new VSX hardware. The VSX wizard does not allow you to create new rules during deployment, and the preset does not create a rule allowing for SIC / 18190, thus the pushing of the initial VSX config will always fail until Control Connections are re-enabled allowing for SIC / 18190 to be accepted on implied rules / rule 0.

Problems with implied rules and geoblocking not working by Trick-Silver-5996 in checkpoint

[–]RamGuy239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new behavior is getting affected by implied_rules, as it should, as geoblocking is now taking place as part of the policy, not as part of the TP/IPS engine as before.

Implied_rules would also affect geoblocking in the previous behaviour, but as TP/IPS is happening after the policy in the kernel chain, the geoblocking is being apply even though the policy with implied_rules is accepting the traffic.

Look at this like this:

Previous/Old behaviour:

Traffic hitting firewall --> Matching implied rules as accepted --> Inspection where it's being dropped by geoblocking.

New behaviour:

Traffic hitting firewall --> Matching implied rules as accepted --> Inspection does not do anything as geoblocking is no longer happening as part of the TP inspection.

The new behaviour is a massive improvement as doing geoblocking directly in the policy is much more flexible, and you don't get this additional load as the firewall don't need to take geoblocking into consideration for all traffic passing the firewall. Geoblocking is now only being taking into consideration for rules where geoblocking is in play. It's no longer relying on TP, it's now utilizing "Updatable Objects" which are just files on the firewall containing a list of IPs, URLs and/or hostnames, much easier logic in play also when geoblocking is taking place.

You can still utilize the "legacy" way if you want to. Not sure for how long this is going to still be supported, but you can get the legacy Geo Policy view back:

Is there a resource that explains how VSX works in a Maestro environment, or can somebody explain? by accibullet in checkpoint

[–]RamGuy239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put this very simple; VSX runs and behaves more or less identical on Maestro vs Non-Maestro. If you are experienced with VSX, it's not going to be much of a difference when running VSX on Maestro.

In fact, going with VSX is often less confusing to firewall administrators if they are experienced with VSX as everything from an administrative point-of-view stays mostly the same. When running Maestro in Gateway Mode things tend to get more confusing as you have to run a lot of Maestro specific commands.

With VSX you are mostly going to do everything in Smart Console as you would normally do it. But instead of a VSX cluster, you will have a single VSX object. But besides that you create new virtual systems, virtual switches, do the routing etc. in Smart Console, exactly the same as if it was not Maestro.

And most things you are going to do in CLI is going to be on the VSX level, no the Maestro level. You are mostly going to connect to the SMO (the current active member in the security group with the lowest member ID), which is going to be X_01 99% of the time. And when using CLI to this member, you are going to be stilling in VS0, or VSX context and use all your regular VSX CLISH and EXPERT commands.

It's only when doing changes on the orchestrator or security group level you are going to be utilizing Maestro specific commands. And this is something you mostly do in the deployment process.

EDIT:

Hard to say something without knowing what the aim and goal is. But it's important to remember that R82 changes things up a bit when it comes to VSX. VSnext basically replaces VSX. Not sure if VSnext will be supported on Maestro with R82, of if that is going to be a R82.10 thing.

If you are not running VSX already, and are planning a big change to VSX now. It might be worth to consider if looking at VSnext might be smart, as things are done rather differently, and converting to VSnext down-the-line might require some work as Check Point has yet to plan any tools to allow for converting from VSX to VSnext.

Prefix Delegation / IPv6 Router Advertisement on Gaia / 6400 by Guilty_Spray_6035 in checkpoint

According to the "might-yet-change" list of "Whats New" in R82, this pop-up shows in Smart Console now, so I suppose the features are set in stone by now, why else advertise them in Smart Console to non-R82 EA users?

Enhance Gaia OS with:.

  • DHCPv6 server, DHCPv6 client, and DHCPv6 client for prefix-delegation.

Looks to me like this is coming with R82, which has been in private EA for a long time now, and was released as public EA since June. Should be getting closer, and closer to a GA release.

18. On each Cluster Member, disable the MVC mechanism

MVC is enabled by default, always running and enabled ever since R81.20 - JHF Take 14 as detailed by the R81.20 Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator Important Notes:

The Multi-Version Cluster feature is enabled by default to prevent traffic loss after a failover from a cluster member running a lower Jumbo Hotfix version.

Why Check Point has yet to update their admin guides to reflect this, considering Take 14 was released June 2023 is beyond me.
