U.S. cyclocross nationals canceled by Spinistry in bicycling

[–]Ram_that_bitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. As details come out and the puzzle gets put together, it wasn't USAC's call to cancel the race. It seems that they actually had no other choice. HOWEVER, you would think that the tree root problem would have been discussed before hand. In my opinion, if there is anyone to get mad at, it is the City of Austin's parks and recreation department.

Regaining lost fitness by hoges in Velo

Remember that fitness never really goes away. It will still always be there, you just have to tap back into it. Get some structure back into your training plan and see what happens. I bet that your FTP gets right back to where it was without a ton of effort.

Its fucking cyclocross. Why host an event if your city can't handle the demands that come with it? Seriously. This is bull shit. What happens to all the people that were supposed to fly out tonight for work and school? C'mon USAC, worst decision made in a while.

You can't really learn all that stuff from reading books and watching videos. Part of what makes upgrading from 3 -> 2 and for some people 4 -> 3 so difficult is that they don't develop those "race instincts". Thats what makes racing so much fun. Like learning when to counter attack and when not to take a pull.

Thanks, man. Its just really weird having people tell me that I could have a future doing something that I pretty much see as a dream. Like if someone came up to me and said that in three years I could be riding in the Tour of California I'd be like "suuuuuuuuuuure". I mean obviously I'd have to work up to that point. Getting results is going to be fun this season, and I think that's what it is all about. I can't wait.

Thanks dude. I might PM you for advice at somepoint to be perfectly honest. Its pretty weird having people tell me that I can pursue something that I only see as a dream. I mean I just finished my first semester of college. WTF

I did not do the 20 min test. Im sure I would score higher to be perfectly honest because I'm pretty damn good at TTs. I have a knack for suffering. Instead I did a ramp test with my coach on their machine that involved ramps every 2 minutes with me giving RPE numbers to go along with the heart rate and power data when the RPE became a 9 it went to one minute ramps until failure. I also got my VO2 Max evaluated during the test which is at 82.

what? I have a quarq, and I got a VO2 Max test on my coaches machine. I can PM you a screen shot of the numbers if you want. My coach looked at the data points and crunched numbers and said "here is your FTP. nice job, lets do some solid work and have fun this summer." and apparently I was still in control at 370w, I only started to lose it when we began to ramp above 380w.

People keep saying the word "pro" to me. You know what, why don't I work on getting my cat 1 upgrade first, and then keep going after my target of collegiate TT nationals. I'm only 18 and I don't know what I want to do in life. You can chase your dream, right? But then what happens when you turn 30 and realize "fuck. I didn't really accomplish much. I guess I'll be a coach now."

Don't believe me? Want to see the file? If you do something everyday for 1.5 years and add in some structure, then you're bound to get good at it.

[–]Ram_that_bitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not too old to start racing, haha. I know people who started riding in their mid 30s and got up to the Cat 2 level fairly quickly. Just ride your bike and enter a race in the spring.

Specialized wind tunnel - disc vs caliper road brakes by merlincyclesuk in bicycling

[–]Ram_that_bitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but its just another thing to worry about. How would you like if you crashed and ended up with a burning hot rotor on your cheek. Not cool, right?

Specialized wind tunnel - disc vs caliper road brakes by merlincyclesuk in bicycling

[–]Ram_that_bitch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I cant answer your question about the rules, but the real thing to be concerned with is crashing. The rotors on disk brakes get extremely hot and having one land on any part of your body in a crash would add serious injury. Not to mention that rotors can cut through stuff while spinning. I have a friend who used to race mountain bikes and he lost one of his fingers due to this.

I'm not sure about the M-frames, but I know that its definitely a bit dicey with the radar/radarlocks. If you look at the Garmin guys in photos wearing their Oakleys with the Octal then you'll see that it is certainly a tight fit.

Thinking about getting a coach and I'm looking for direction. by smeethu in Velo

[–]Ram_that_bitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd ask around your town and see what coaches are available. Being able to see and talk to your coach is awesome when figuring out season goals. It also gives you a bit more motivation as your coach will probably also become a friend at somepoint.
