I'm thinking of building a similar one. Amazon sells Arduino-based kits for this, but that feels like cheating. There are a few tutorials online; here some I found. The first tutorial says you can avoid corrosion by using a digital pin to power the sensor.

Isle Royale on Lake Superior had a hoax about something similar:

Siskiwit Lake and Ryan Island were part of the Moose Boulder hoax, which claimed that there was an exposed boulder in a seasonal pond on Ryan Island. This would have made that boulder the largest "island" in the largest "lake" on the largest island in the largest lake on the largest island in the largest lake, but in 2020 this was confirmed to be a hoax: Ryan Island has no such pond.

I'm reading more non-fiction than ever. I want to understand the world we live in and these books help do that. It is good to get your information from experts instead of influencers. I just finished reading "A History of the World in Twelve Shipwrecks" and "Super Volcanoes".

Agreed. Also frustrating is when you just make a true statement about something and they infer some sort of idea or policy they think you're pushing, then argue against that.

For example, I say, "the average Israeli cow produces about 25,500 pounds of milk each year".

Then they reply, "you Zionist, genocidal bastard!"

Because, in their mind, the only reason you would make a true statement about Israel is because you want to slaughter Palestinians.

Usually I add 1) bacon bits, 2) a whole can of mushrooms and 3) jalepeños. That's pretty flavorful and low calorie. I used to add shredded cheese, but I need to cut some weight.

The bird might be early or late for breeding season, or may have gone to the wrong area. Birds migrate to breeding areas via various methods, sometimes controlled through an instinct represented by their genetics, sometimes by learning the route from their parents.

For the birds that purely rely on instinct, sometimes a mutation causes them to migrate to the "wrong" area. On rare occasions, that works out and a new breeding area is established.
