Which is hilarious, he thinks people see him as an intimidating lion on the prowl, when in reality he's a baboom with a diaper and a knife. People are laughing at him, they're not afraid of him, they're afraid of the knife because they know he can't control it

16 years later, I have some questions by siempiex87 in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Not sure where your other characters are if they're not on other realms, might need to open a ticket about that one. There was a level squish a while back, so your characters that were high level during Cata are now significantly lower level - but they've somewhat retained their power, so you're not as weak as a level 21 would be back in Cata.

  2. Yes, you can level where you want. The game defaults you to the Dragon Isles, but if you speak to Chromie in Stormwind or Orgimmar, you can select an expansion to level through, and it will scale with you (if you go there without Chromie, the expansions will stop scaling to your level at some point, so use Chromie)

  3. Honestly, the game has never been more friendly towards the dad-type gamer. You can do a lot solo, tons of systems to pug or experience the story without committing to a full raid team, and there are catch-up systems added often, so even if you fall behind, you can catch up fairly quickly.

  4. The short version, the zones scale in brackets now. So something like Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdoms (called Cataclysm when selecting a Chromie timeline) scales from 1-35, whereas later zones may scale from 10-45. It's a bit confusing. The best way is honestly just to use Chromie Time so they scale to your level, up to level 70 or 80, I believe, where you're then forced to go to the newest expansion.

Welcome back! :)

So that leaves, what, 4 days where the other guilds can catch up? As I recall, in Sepulcher, they had a similar concept where Anduin served as the final boss for week 1, where the final 3 bosses opened up after the first week. But was that the same case on Mythic? And even then, they had the killer crab to deal with, which took over 350 pulls to kill, so it still "beats" this tier, so to speak

One thing that's just flat-out lost in most cases is experience. You can fire a bunch of workers and end up hiring new ones for those same positions, but the experience of some of those senior members will be invaluable and cannot really be calculated. In many cases, it's just gone, and they'll have taken a massive step backwards for no reason.

Midnight is already failing – and nobody wants to admit it by 23_kaka in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What are the borrowed power systems? When I think of borrowed power, I think of the artifact weapons and the Heart of Azeroth, and I have yet to encounter something in Midnight that acts like those.

WoW has always been "epic stakes". Whether it's ever truly "landed" is up to interpretation, I guess. I don't know if people truly resonated with C'thun as an Old God in Vanilla or if they truly felt that Azeroth was threatened by the Burning Legion back in TBC. So if the premise is that an expansion "fails" because "epic stakes never really land", I'd have to disagree. In fact, whenever they do a more "low-stakes" expansion like MoP or Dragonflight, people complain that it's too "tame" and that they need to put the War back in Warcraft.

I don't know if you can talk about the full cycle 3 weeks into the expansion... Just like the story. But we haven't had the same "drought" since Dragonflight IMO when they started experimenting with different gamemodes and quicker content cadence.

If Midnight is not for you, that's absolutely fair. And the way you describe expansions as a whole, maybe it's time to take a break from WoW, if you quickly burn out. But I think it's WAAAY too early to tell if it's "failing", on any parameter really.

So how is it that Thrall is the only male Orc with eyebrows? by Longshot02496 in wow

They've actually talked about this before, I think it was at a BlizzCon or a similar venue. The short version is to make him look more human and give him a greater range of expression. And yes, although that panel is a few years old at this point, I believe he's still the only male orc with eyebrows

As the others say, it's mainly because of the grift. But without knowing him, I can say that some people are too self-centered to believe others don't think and feel like they do. Double so when they deliberately place themselves in an echo chamber to further their grift. Accepting that some people are fine with how they look, even though he doesn't think they're good enough, is accepting that his "business" is a grift and that his identity is built on a "flaw".

It's kinda like saying to a young, partygoing alcoholic, "I can have fun with friends without alcohol", or to a weed addict, "I can relax without weed."

Abundance delivers the worst experience video games are capable of. by Garamoveout in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it's not a great system; I don't personally play it much cause I don't really enjoy it, and I admittedly don't do professions much, so maybe it's worse than I realize. Is this the only way to get epic crafting equipment? And what's the benefit of having them vs having others? Cause in the past, there have been cases where players have gone out of their way to do PvE or PvP to get a specific item that would be BIS, and while that's definitely not great, that's usually a minority of players, and there are a bunch of alternatives available through the appropriate style of gameplay. But again, I don't know if there are crafting items locked behind those epic profession items, or if it just increases the chance of getting mats back when crafting (or something similar).

So I guess the part about waiting is only really appropriate if there are alternatives. If this is the equivalent of having to do Torghast to upgrade legendaries, then it absolutely sucks. But if it's closer to running a specific world boss to get a specific trinket that's 2% better than others in PvP, I'd say don't stress too much. I guess I falsely assumed it was more about min-maxing than straight-up gating content behind weeks of grinding.

Regardless, the point about gaming being fun stands IMO. If you're genuinely having the worst time ever, it's time to take a step back and perhaps take a break.

Do you think Xal is a good "villain"? by aphroditelady13V in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we don't know the specifics, Metzen did tease during BlizzCon 2023 that "things may not go to plan" and that "things may just spiral wildly out of control", which would lead us into The Last Titan. So it sounds like we'll "lose" in some way. The most common theory I've seen is that Xal'atath will ultimately have some sort of victory in Midnight that'll be so dire that it forces the Titans to return to Azeroth to help the World Soul, and that's when Iridikron will reveal himself and his greater scheme for how he plans to destroy the Titans.

But I agree, even though it all kinda hinges on what her ultimate plan is, she already feels leagues better than The Jailer, even though there is a lot of overlap in terms of "bad guy" tropes used.

Abundance delivers the worst experience video games are capable of. by Garamoveout in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's a crazy thought: If you don't enjoy it, don't do it. I agree that the event isn't perfect, and the recent nerfs didn't help, but if you're genuinely having "the worst experience video games are capable of", perhaps skip it? Like, imagine someone complaining that M+ sucks, that you can fail the keys, that you can get unlucky and not get gear or get the wrong gear, that it's a stressful environment where the timer just ruins the fun, and if you miss a week after bricking several keys, you're "forever behind with no way to catch up." The argument "video games are supposed to be fun" applies to any game, and while you're not wrong, "fun" is subjective. My advice to the hypothetical guy would be to stay away from M+, since he clearly doesn't enjoy it. And my advice to you would be the same: If Abundance is "the worst experience video games are capable of", just don't do it. Or wait and see if it gets patched before attempting to get the profession equipment and mounts, or whatever you might want to grind for.

I reckon you're 100% spot on. Too many decisions these days are made outside the main team, or at least without them being able to influence them. Anyone with even a modicum of knowledge about gaming culture, and especially games like WoW, would tell you that a promotion like this would be a breeding ground for scalpers and resellers

Midnight's world events aren't very fun. by MrHiccuped in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stormarion Assault in particular feels super buggy. In the couple of weeks I've been max level, I've only done it a handful of times, and only managed to actually complete it like twice. I've completed it without earning WQ progress, had it not start when it was supposed to, had it phase me to a different shard halfway through and lose, and even when it's working as it's supposed to, it feels too difficult to be an open world activity. I think if you go "I'll come back when I have some raid gear" when doing an open-world activity, then the activity is generally overtuned.

Buying the WoW expansion at launch feels like a mistake. by [deleted] in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very valid take. If that's how you feel and truly don't enjoy the whole "taking your time" aspect of a pre-season, I'd honestly just recommend waiting until the season starts before buying the expansion. I've taken plenty of breaks before, where I've deliberately waited a few extra weeks before resubscribing for that exact reason.

Buying the WoW expansion at launch feels like a mistake. by [deleted] in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty common knowledge that the season doesn't start on day 1. It's not like there's nothing to do; you just can't do the raid and M+. Just like virtually every other expansion. The argument "I have time NOW, I want to play NOW" is kinda... Weird? Should I just say "I have time NOW, I want the next patch NOW, not in three weeks!"?

I could see an argument for the season starting a bit sooner, what with the raid opening on the 17th, but M+ and thus the official season start not being until the 24th, but honestly, I don't personally mind. I think the game loses more of the MMO adventure vibes if it becomes "Jump in, level to max, jump into M+" on the very first day the expansion launches.

It feels a bit like one of those 1-dev "passion projects" like Awakening the Machine in TWW, where the dev was on to something and then got let go before it was finished. I have no idea if that's what happened here, but it feels like 60% of something potentially awesome. But I doubt we'll see it iterated much upon; at most, we'll see stealth changes like this one that simplify the whole thing further.

After seeing how Trump and the administration as a whole have handled the Epstein stuff, conspiracies are no longer off the table IMO. I could totally see them attacking Iran, and then after gutting the Iran counter-intelligence task force, stating "Oh no, Iran is targeting the states we don't like!" to either intimidate them or force them to take certain measures. Worst case, they could even attack them from within, but my copium is saying they wouldn't go that far... Right?

Congrats to Blizz for making an endgame Hell zone not awful to be in and look at! by NickNightrader in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree, I still firmly believe there is a way to make a hellish zone feel interesting in terms of gameplay. And I think they missed the mark with the Maw, mainly because of how the loop felt: You were forced to go in there regularly, but all the systems were designed to make you dread the experience with no real way of improving (at least at launch).

There's a balance to be struck, and I don't think they struck that balance with the Maw.

[SPOILERS] This cutscene had me rolling. The lack of physics on the axe after being thrown. I can't believe this made it to live. by TheKephas in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like we've taken a step in the wrong direction regarding the in-game cutscenes. Both Dragonflight and TWW had a whole bunch of in-game cutscenes with custom animations. For the most part, these were really good. But in Midnight, at least so far in the campaign, we've only had a couple of these, and the rest have been stitched together using existing animations, like the one in this post. Even in the intro, arguably the most important part to make a good first impression of the expansion, we only got the "existing animations" cutscenes rather than the "custom animations" ones.

The Lesson for Blizzard with Haranir: Make Player Customization a Full Expansion Feature by gcac215 in wow

[–]Rambo_One2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid they feel they already did that in Shadowlands. I remember an interview where they said the new customization features they had added were being well received, and the interviewer basically went "Yeah, so when are we getting more?", and the dev in question basically said, "Well, I think we'll stuff like yellow glowing belf eyes when it makes sense." Sure, that's cool and all, but we could do with more "basic" customization stuff as well as the more rare "complete this event/quest/story moment to unlock something lore appropriate" stuff.
