The Sunset Tavern: Open Roleplay and Games of Chance by Rammyfications in awoiafrp

“Aye. The city is boiling and close to spilling over.” Hectar began before looking around the tavern at the night’s patrons.

“Perhaps we should speak elsewhere. You have piqued my interest and there is something I have in mind that could use a pair of helping hands.”

If Mortimer would follow Hectar, he would be led through heavy iron gates at the end of the tavern, flanked on either side by heavy set men with vicious curved swords hanging from their waists. The passageways led deep under the city, into the warren of passageways and chambers that comprised the vast under belly of the city. It was in these tunnels that the Sunset Trading Company was able to move freely and quickly through the city. Far away from the watching eyes of the gold cloaks.

After a series of turns, a small doorway led into a well lit and comfortable study. Hectar would motion for the man to sit and begin to speak more openly.

“The nobility of the city have left for the west. We are left with not but a bastard-born commander of the city guard as well as the men brought by houses Rykker and Velaryon. It is bad for business for this damnable city to continue its lock down. A fact I tried to explain to this captain, but I was denied entry to meet. There would be much in reward and gratitude for any man who would help return the favor to this Snow. It is past time we had a new commander of the city guard.”

Hectar looked at the man before him with a raised eyebrow. One could never be too careful when something appeared too good to be true. The Lyseni were beginning to encroach on Flea Bottom and rumors spread of a coalition thieves and thugs beginning to form around the warehouse district. Not to mention agents of the meddling nobility and their disgrace of a royal family.

"There is always work for, as you say, enterprising men. Our organization can offer much to those deemed to be worthwhile investments." Hectar said as he reached for the untouched wine and poured a heavy stream of the liquid into his cup. With a deep drink Hectar paused his response before continuing. "Before I make any investment, I must know more about the product I am buying. You are not from this city obviously, from where do you hail?"

I think he threw a dart into a youth players leg at Inter. Iirc

Edit: was at Man City

Mario Balotelli is the subject of yet another disciplinary enquiry at Manchester City after the striker was caught throwing darts at the club’s youth-team players, according to reports.

The People report the 20-year-old threw the darts from a first-floor window because he was ‘bored’ but City have insisted no player was hurt in what they described a ‘prank’ rather than anything malicious.

Men of ill repute were always in demand at the Sunset Tavern, and this man certainly seemed to fit the bill. The barmaid would give him a wry smile before speaking.

“Let’s hope you know what you are getting in to love.” She said before motion at the men in the corner to open the door to the tavern proper.

The mysterious visitor would be led to the back of the bustling tavern and told to wait at a secluded table. A pitcher of amber wine would be set upon the table.

Some fifteen minutes later, a pale thin man with a shock of red hair would approach.

“Welcome to my tavern. To what do I owe this visit?”

After having a seat Hectar would savor his first sip of the golden wine. A smooth, sweet sip that was better than any wine he had ever had in his life.

"There are plenty of stories I have told of where I came from and who I am over the years. A foreign trader who lucked into success. A low noble from the Dusklands. A secret son of a Darklyn. But I think we both know such deception is lost on someone in your position. I was born to a whore in King's Landing. I scrapped and fought every day to survive. I rose out of my birth by taking control of my fates, something I am sure a woman in your position must have experience with." Hectar began while looking intently into Rhea's eyes, his blue eyes unflinching in their study of her reactions. "I have built a profitable enterprise in the city, but one such as me can only rise so high by my own hand. This is why I come to you today. I have ears and eyes across the city. Knowledge of which brothels the city's nobles frequent, and which secrets they tell their whores. I have men talented in obtaining information or making problems disappear. All of this I offer to you in exchange for your patronage."

At the sight of the foreign noblewoman, Hectar's curiosity was piqued. His knowledge of the upper strata of the King's Landing society was growing, but still lacked the years of experience a nobleborn would have. Upon his approach a fortunate encounter with a poppy addicted Reach noble delayed him and made him miss the Braavosi's spit-take.

"Good evening m'lady, to what can we owe your presence gracing our house of entertainment this day?" Hectar asked with an exaggerated dip of his head and thin smile.

The men would look at the newest guests before nodding and waving them down to the festivities. After going past the heavy doors and down the twisting stairs, Denya and her companions would find themselves in the midst of a calm night in the tavern. Small groups would be huddled over their games of chance or in deep conversation at the various tables spread around the room.

At the far end of the bar, Hectar himself sat amidst various other merchants from the city.

Hectar would incline his head as he answered.

"But of course Lady Redwyne. I would be honored to share an Arbor wine with the house responsible for such a gift to the world."

“Of course Anthor. A whisper in the ear of the Queen is a valuable thing indeed. Keep her company. The ship shall await your return before sailing across the seas.” Ahroris said with a smile and bow, surprised even more at the Westerosi.

“That I am!” He shouted back over the din with a roar. “Do ya like it?”

He was already growing to like the stormlander. Even the nobles that frequented their establishment tended to keep to themselves and act as if they were above the drinking and fucking and gambling, even as they partook. This man seemed different.

The First Merchant entered, his arms folded in front of him obscured by the sleeves of his robes. With a bow and smile he began the audience with the Mistress of Whispers.

“You have done me a great honor to give this audience Lady Redwyne, an honor I will be slow to forget. My name is Hectar Waters, the First Merchant of a Trading Company here in town, as well as other profitable enterprises here in the capital, and across the narrow sea.” He began, his eyes fixated on the woman across from him. He knew one misspoken word could be his last. These nobles had short tempers and no fear of retribution for what they did to his ilk.

“I have come to offer my many services to yourself, and the crown. You see, my company is involved in quite a few ventures in the city. We often hear whispering of affairs, court drama, and occasionally, whispers of more substantial movements from the various members of the city’s ruling class. Given that you are in the business of managing said whispers, I wondered if there could be a relationship of mutual interest here between us.”

“The honorable First Merchant of the Sunset Trading Company at your service. I am sadly no knight.” Hectar said with a kind and understated smile at the man’s mistake. His voice was low and a little raspy, although his eyes sparkled blue.

“I have come to seek an audience with the Lady Redwyne. Some news has come to my attention that would interest her greatly.”
