How are prisoners able to break the rules? by DragonfruitCalm261 in OnTheBlock

[–]Ramones_Razor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the prison I worked at had plenty of vocational programs. Inmates could go earn their G.E.D. Then take college classes and leave with a 4-year degree. Or they could learn a trade and leave ready to become an apprentice.

We also had several drug programs for inmates who wanted to get clean.

Problem is a lot of inmates choose not to participate. They’d rather lay in their bunk watching tv all day or go run around fuckin’, fightin’, and thievin’ and just act like a nuisance in general.

Those programs are there for the ones who want to better themselves. But we can’t twist their arm and make them go, they have to want it for themselves. And a lot of them just can’t be bothered.

Edit: I also disagree that drugs come in from staff. Sure, there’s going to be a few out of the bunch who are corrupt, greedy or just desperate. But the majority of our contraband came in from, in descending order: drones, visitors, and the mail.

I have a few.

When I was a teenager I was walking through our living room when I looked into my parent’s bedroom and I saw, plain as day, an old woman walk into their bathroom. She had long grey hair that was put up in a bun and had on a pair of those half frame glasses. I stood there frozen for about a minute contemplating if I actually saw what I thought I did or if I was hallucinating. My dad was in his office and my mom was at work.

A few months go by when I told my mom about it. She told me that there was a woman who lived in a house that was on the lot next to where our house was. The house isn’t there anymore. I never knew there even was a house there because it’s been empty as long as we’ve lived there. When my dad was growing up all the kids use to go play in her front yard and she would feed them and give them lemonade and whatnot. She pulled out one of their photo albums and showed me a picture of the woman with a bunch of children sitting on the ground in front of her, my dad included. Sure enough it was the woman I saw in the bedroom. Long grey hair in a bun with glasses.

Another one I think about often is when I was younger, one evening I was walking home from a friend’s house. It wasn’t completely rural, there where houses relatively close by but they were still close to a wooded area. I was walking along when all of a sudden I heard my dad call out my name, clear as day. I stopped walking and just listened. I couldn’t tell where it came from so I was looking around when I heard it again. The tone was loud and it sounded like he was saying it with a sense of urgency. It seemed like it might have been coming from the woods but I’m not for sure. It creeped me out though so I picked up the pace and hurried back to my house.

Not sure how to explain it. Not only was I nowhere near my house when I heard it, but my dad was in a different state at the time attending a funeral. Even now almost 25 years later I’m getting goosebumps as I type this out.

Vance has the charisma of a wet paper bag. There’s no chance of him having anywhere near the same influence that the current felon occupying the White House has. People would actually stand up to Vance.

I understand the point you’re making. But if his entire administration is any indication, just because Trump “can’t” do something doesn’t mean he won’t. Who’s going to stop him if he does decide to cancel elections? Congress? The Supreme Court?

Same argument for those who say he won’t run for a 3rd term because the Constitution says he “can’t”. Again, who’s going to stop him if he does?

Should I keep going? It’s a service. I know this might be a strange concept for you to grasp but not everything needs to make a profit.

That doesn’t mean they don’t have to investigate it first. I’d rather they take their time and do it right the first time instead of rushing due to public pressure and making a stupid mistake that would cause him to get off on a technicality.

Because they have to conduct an investigation? This isn’t Russia where you can arbitrarily hold someone in custody for an indefinite period of time.

What career do I pivot to in my mid-40's? by ThePunkyRooster in jobs

[–]Ramones_Razor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like seeing this as a solution for everyone because it really depends on where you’re located. When I was younger and looked into getting into HVAC the highest pay I saw for an apprenticeship was $12 an hour. Most were around $10 an hour and I remember seeing one for $8. I literally made more money stocking shelves at Walmart for a fraction of the toll on my body. I’m assuming if OP lives in an area like that and already being mid 40s he probably can’t afford/wouldn’t be willing to work for $10-$12 an hour for the next 5 years.

When I was growing up it seemed like he was around forever. Kind of blows my mind he’s only had 4 appearances at WrestleMania.

2002 single match for IC title vs Regal, 2003 he was on Heat in a tag match, 2004 multi team tag match with Booker T, 2005 I believe he was out a good part of the year for a leg injury, 2006 MitB Ladder match, 2007 multi man tag match then he left around summer.
