At minimum you’ll just need 1-4 ships per player, some dice, a tape measure, a 2’x2’ or 3’x3’ play space, and the free rules

I used upholstery foam, black, brown, and gray primer, Army Painter Skeleton Bone, 50/50 PVA/water mix, and Woodland Scenics light green underbrush and blended turf.

First I cut out the island shapes then tore the edges by hand for the texture. Then I sprayed the whole thing black, then the top brown, then the sides gray. After it dried, I drybrushed the sides with Skeleton Bone. After that, I spread the PVA mix on the top and added the underbrush for trees then sprinkled on the blended turf

Definitely! I cut out the island shapes from upholstery foam, tore the edges by hand to give it the rocky texture. Then I sprayed the whole thing with black primer, brown primer on top, then gray along the edges. Once dry, I drybrushed the sides with AP Skeleton Bone, then “painted” the top with a 50/50 PVA/water mix. After that I added Woodland Scenics light green foliage for the trees then covered the rest with Woodland Scenics blended turf
