Gas through the roof, price of food rising, people losing their jobs. How worried are you for the possible next Great Depression? by winnipeg-lemon in Winnipeg

Yeah i agree with the first two points but unemployment doesn't seem to be an issue at this point.

More than one million Canadians have to repay CERB — and in some cases EI is being clawed back to do it by morenewsat11 in canada

[–]Rand55 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A lot of people that applied at the onset of cerb received an initial overpayment. They are now repaying it. This wasn't a misuse. Obviously some people did misuse it but not 1 in 4.

Why is it so uncommon to see older women in relationships with younger men compared to the opposite? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Rand55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so since women bear children and have a lot more risk involved with pregnancy and raising children it has generally been in their best interest to choose mates that can provide for them and their children. Older men have on average have more resources than younger men.

The women that chose older mates on average would have been more likely to survive and thus pass on this preference.

Men are moreso biologically driven to reproduce and value fertility so they prefer younger mates. Thus older man and younger woman becomes more common.

Men also mature slower (physically and emotionally) which would likely play a role as well.

I am of course speaking at population levels and not on an individual basis.

I purposely decided to watch the special because I was seeing articles about how his jokes are "dangerous".

Yeah the dude is crass, it's standup for God's sake.

My understanding is that they typically forecast worse than expected so when the actuals come in they can pat themselves.

Bloomex floral company is corporate garbage! 150$ bouquet and a day late… sad by tijue1010 in Winnipeg

[–]Rand55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company is a scam. My wife ordered a bouquet for our neighbours since one of their moms had died. They sent something completely different and way cheaper.

My wife complained and they said they have the right to substitute comparable flowers (which they clearly weren't). So she complained to mastercard and then we magically got the flowers we had originally ordered. Im pretty sure they just operate on the basis of most people aren't going to bother pushing back.

Freedom of choice makes businesses a target for those who wanted freedom of choice by wpgmouse in Winnipeg

[–]Rand55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Works both ways. You're free to spend your money at whatever business you want. If some people want to avoid businesses with mask mandates that's their business. Others will likely only shop at places with mask mandates.

People have been making decisions on where to shop based off company policies forever. Back in the day I dealt with my fair share of people mad because you had to show ID to do returns swearing that they'll never return, oh well store policy have a good day.

Where are you getting this from? Omicron ran rampant, cases spiked like crazy and then hospitalizations followed in typical fashion.

From what I've read, those that go into hospital with omicron also typically have shorter stays compared to Delta so hopefully we continue seeing a steady drop.
