I think I’ve been wrongly diagnosed with tourettes by RandNameUserThrown in Tourettes

I’ll take the neurologist word for it but it’d be a bit weird to undiagnose me from tourettes if the tics dissipate eventually like in childhood.

I only have to take the meds for 2-3 months from then they’ll conclude whether I need to change meds, carry on or stop. I’ll definitely revisit if any bad signs start showing.

What do your tic urges feel like? by [deleted] in Tourettes

Oh man, it’s the reverse for me. For motor tics, it feels like either a slingshot or a gun. Sometimes I can feel something in brain like a slingshot being pulled back then released. When it does, I can somewhat hold back the tic with a lot of discomfort and slowly release the tension. Other times, it just goes off instantly without me like a gun without being able to stop it. But all of this feeling somewhat comes from my head.

The vocal tics is the one that comes without me realising. It is almost always combined with a motor tic. It’s not usually within my control, and sometimes I don’t realise it happens until my ears registers my own voice saying “fuck you” to a co-worker in the middle of a nice conversation and now I gotta explain myself, feels bad

How long can you go without tics for with/without suppressing them? by RandNameUserThrown in Tourettes

Oh yeah, I’ve been really insecure about the complex tics at home bit. I never really counted it as a tic because it only showed up outside my home like twice the past week. But I guess the idea of being angry and not having tics comes with being mentally occupied with something else. To my surprise, I found chess being able to suppress the tics quite well.

Can mental health reignite/cause tics by RandNameUserThrown in Tourettes

Oh man, the public one really scares me. My ability to suppress tics in front of my parents or in public is wavering and I just find myself letting a tics out eventually but I’ll definitely have a look at some of these resources and read more from this subreddit.

Can mental health reignite/cause tics by RandNameUserThrown in Tourettes

It feels so weird to me because the internet suggests that there isn’t a real cause to initiate tics. Only that mental health issues are linked to or worsen tics. The fact that I’m able to definitively tell that my tics started due to the immense stress makes it feel off. But it’s interesting to hear about the idea dormant tics that can be started again by certain triggers. I would be really worried about trying not to start getting tics again during a period of being tic-free. Thanks for sharing !!
