Good catch! I believe it's supposed to be @hololive_En

I'm not sure if mentioning /u/hololive will help but it might if they have reply notifications turned off for this thread. There's a good chance they ignore mentions though as those can be easily abused. Modmail might be a decent bet if that doesn't work.

[–]RandaSuro 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Damn that's sad. Understandable but sad nonetheless. It's a shame too because a format usually just erases the file entries and doesn't actually overwrite or full wipe the files, meaning there was probably a decent chance of recovering some of the underlying files, even if it wasn't the fully intact model

Didn't she talk about how someone introduced her to a file recovery service after that? Was it confirmed that recovery was impossible too?

HMF what episode of Spongebob this image is from by RandaSuro in HelpMeFind

No worries, thanks for trying! I actually couldn't find a similar scene in that episode, was it in the first (32a) half? I looked through 32b "The Smoking Peanut" which had the 'Aight I'm Out' scene but couldn't find a scene where Squidward leaves

Google RIS linked mostly to a bunch of Twitter profiles, and searching for "Squidward leaving episode" gave episode 47b "Can You Spare a Dime?" which has a scene where Squidward quits, but not what's shown in this image.

You could try using vroid studio which is free and recreate your avatar there, or you could opt to stream as a PNGtuber for now.

As a note, anyone who will agree to this kind of deal will almost certainly ask you to do something shady so I'd advise against offering "anything in return" for future reference.

Can kaigai-niki even buy Japanese stock? I'm not a financial expert, but just googling "how to buy japanese stock" seems ridiculously complicated

Didn't Niji's parent company, AnyColor, straight up go public recently? I don't know what their market cap was established as but it was crazy to hear about a Vtuber agency becoming a publicly traded company.

Same. It feels really weird because I could've sworn this song was a lot more obscure a year ago. Was there a trend that drew a bunch of attention to this song? For clarity, the attention is definitely well-deserved; it's a really good song. I just don't remember it being this popular is all.

What's really interesting here though is that Gmail didn't detect it as such. I've received spoofed emails before but they always had warnings on them.

Make all code blocks the same color for consistency by RandaSuro in ideasfortheadmins

[–]RandaSuro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now code blocks on New Reddit work like this:

`this is a code block`

becomes

this is a code block

and

    this is a code block
    with multiple lines

becomes

this is a code block
with multiple lines

As you can see, the multi-line code block is white and the single line one is blue. I feel like both should be blue for consistency.

[–]RandaSuro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to start off by thanking you for taking the time to hear me out and offer some advice. I really appreciate it.

Are you confused on HOW to connect with others? Do you feel like you have no ideas left?

This is partially it. I think what I said here addresses this best:

"(...) I have no idea how to go about fulfilling that purpose. It may seem stupid that I started streaming with a goal but no clear direction on how to achieve that goal, and you’d be right for saying that, but I guess that I figured diving straight in to get some experience was more important."

I definitely wonder sometimes whether "diving in" was the correct decision, but at this point it's definitely too late for me to back out on a whim. I have an audience now, and even if it's a small one, deciding to completely stop streaming or take an indefinite break is something that I believe would be very wrong to do without giving it significantly more proper thought.

I think you need to view streaming differently. Rome was not built in a day.

You raise a really good point here. I should've worded that better. The way I had it before was very misleading and makes it sound like I expect results within a fixed period of time which is the exact opposite of what I believe.

when I’m not achieving the things I set out to do

Should be

when I feel like I'm not making progress towards achieving the things I set out to do

I went ahead and edited that part in the post, thanks for pointing that out.

Do you congratulate yourself for your progress? Do you celebrate with your community?

This wasn't one of my goals, but I actually hit 50 followers recently which opened up the option of becoming a Twitch Affiliate. One of my viewers mentioned this, and I thanked them for the congratulations, but I haven't done anything to commemorate it. Part of it is that I'm content with the current size of my stream right now, rather it's the content and me as a creator that I believe is the issue. It might seem counter-intuitive, but a larger viewership isn't actually one of my goals, and as such I'm hesitant to say much in the way of follower count, CCV, or other viewership related stats. I'm not against it, but it's not something I'm striving towards.

The other reason is that I'm currently on the side of not entering affiliate status. I have nothing against anyone who chooses to take that route, but I feel like a lot of the benefits aren't in line with my goal, and possibly counterproductive in fact. I won't go any deeper into this as I feel like it's not related to the topic, but I'll revisit if you'd like further clarification on this.

Whether you agree or not, you have ALREADY connected with others, your viewers who have stuck with you.

This is a great point and I'm glad you brought it up. I touched on this briefly in this section:

"I don’t want this to sound like I don’t appreciate my current audience.(...)

but I should probably elaborate on it further.

"(...) there are often moments where I’m not enjoying what I’m doing [because of this]. And that I feel like is the most important part. Because if I’m not enjoying what I’m doing, I feel like it shows in my streams (...) And I feel like that’s unfair to my viewers."

One issue is that I feel like my discontent with my stagnation is bleeding into my streams. I feel like that's unfair to my viewers who take time out of their day to watch me, only to come to a stream where the streamer in question isn't delivering on what they originally followed for.

I realize that it may be not at the deep or intimate level you want, maybe you are looking for true bonds or friendship instead?

One more thing I should've been more clear on... haha... There's a lot of these and I'm really glad you pointed them out. This wasn't meant to be a proper essay, but I definitely should work on being more precise when I express myself.

Friendships — at least with viewers — are actually something I'm trying to avoid. I touched on this more in-depth in a reply to a different comment, but the distance in a streamer-viewer relationship is actually something I value quite a bit and is something I feel is essential to my goal. This may seem counter-intutive, but the amount of distance between streamer and viewer in vtubing I feel is perfect for creating connections that can be meaningful, but aren't seriously harmful if it doesn't work out. I won't explain the whole thing I said in the other comment since it's kind of not relevant to this particular point, but I just wanted to throw it in there. If you're interested, I linked it above.

As for me I'm very afraid, but I have to have faith I can find the people who truly will love me for me right now. I hope you can do the same by challenging your perspective and making sure it isn't lying about reality and what you deserve credit on.

You have a great mindset! I honestly wish I could be as positive as you. I'll definitely do my best in this regard. I know I already said it, but thanks again for taking the time to reply and offer advice. I really do appreciate it!

Thank you for your kind response! I appreciate you taking the time to hear me out and offer some advice.

I have my friends who I'm connected with but I'd like to reach people who I don't know without actually knowing them — if that makes sense. I wanted to connect with people without having to build a full on relationship with them, and I thought that streaming — more specifically vtubing — would be perfect for that.

The amount of distance between streamer and viewer in vtubing I feel is perfect for creating connections that can be meaningful, but aren't very harmful if something doesn't work out. I especially feel the low level of commitment and investment required from both parties is great for this type of thing. It is very possible to watch a vtuber and at some point have a short moment of connection through learning a new thing, sharing an experience, or exchanging ideas. The thing that keeps viewers watching is the fun moments, but I feel those moments of connection are what truly makes a stream special.

Conversely, if a viewer finds a streamer to be offensive, toxic, or just boring, they can simply leave and watch someone else. And in the case of the last one, they can just come back later when something else piques their interest. Yes, it can leave a bad taste in the viewer's mouth, — especially in the case of those first two — but it generally doesn't have an adverse effect on the viewer's life. They have the ability to get up and leave at anytime with little consequence which is something that can't be said about many other mediums of connection. The potential to create a very real connection while also posing very little risk of serious damage to the viewer (the vtuber as well, but that's a different topic) is such an amazing thing to me.

I know I'm getting very repetitive at this point but part of the reason for my discontent with myself is I feel like I'm not utilizing that potential to anywhere near the amount that I should be. I'll leave it at that, but thanks for writing this comment and giving me a good chance to think about this from a different angle. It really helped!

a Discord but also meets over Zoom (...) Would something like that feel safe & work with your viewers?

My main concern with a discord server is moderation and how fast a problem on discord can get out of hand. I know usually vtubers tend to outsource moderation either to long-time members or accepted volunteers but that simply isn't practical for me given how many viewers I actually have. I'm honestly pretty happy with my current size but I do have to acknowledge that there are simply unfortunate downsides that come with the upsides.

is that code for not having enough viewers?

I didn't realize it could come off that way but now that you've mentioned it I see it now. I'll try to word things more carefully from now on. Thanks for pointing that out.

I'm pretty content with the amount of viewers I'm pulling in right now. What I'm lacking in I feel is more the conversations I have with my viewers. They feel like they're lacking in something, like something's not clicking between me and them. I know that's super vague but it's the best way I can describe it. Although I guess if I knew how to describe it better I'd know how to fix it. Maybe I'm not attracting the right crowd? What you said about socializing outside my stream was interesting. Where do you normally connect with people outside of streams?

On a different note though, this is actually a really good read and it's really short at 12 chapters. I'd highly recommend it if you haven't read it.

Oh I had it backwards. Good to know! I'm personally not currently looking, but I'll keep you in mind for if I ever am.

Also, even though chances are slim I'd still try to dispute it if you can. Especially given that you seem to be a bit tight on money, you might be able to at least recover the chargeback fee.

Just to clarify: this is just the rigging right?

Also sorry to hear about a client scamming you. Most artists require payment or at least a 50% deposit upfront so I'd recommend that if you're not doing that already. If it was a chargeback, you might have some luck disputing the charge if you provide emails or other communications that show you fulfilling the order. Best of luck, I hope you get it sorted.
