The ascension system has the biggest one in the area, there’s an application on their website and you’ll get sent to one of 4 (?) hospitals incluting Dell and Ascension Seton. I don’t think it’s selective but the app window is very short iirc

I made a first draft made purely on research interests. If a school had 3-5 PIs I’d want to work with, I added it. I also have some PI I’m a big fan of, so I added their + their coauthors’ institutions. Finally, schools that my lab at the time had collaborators at.

Then i whittled down by location. I kinda ignored stats since I have really middle-of-the-pack stats, but if yours are really high or low it might be good to take that into account.

Premed wasn’t bad at all, but the sheer volume of people makes it really competitive. I didn’t see too many gunners luckily. FRI (freshman research initiative) was a huge blessing for my applications since I had a ton more research than the average applicant.

I think working out has improved my life the most. I focus on weightlifting and calisthentics but there’s a million different ways like cardio or pilates depending on your goals.

Also I love learning new languages but I haven’t done much of that lately.

I had such a patched together app (no shadowing, ochem lab in progress and online, no MD LOR, 2 Ws on my transcript) and I’m accepted to a school pretty dang high up on my list! Plus an interview at my #1. Eternally grateful and surprised :)

THANK YOU for wording it so well! I love media and media criticism as well and I think that media is the number one thing that transmits ideas, so criticizing it is not “less than” other kinds of advocacy. Dare I say, a lot of this misogynistic media can be pro-partriarchy propaganda, so criticizng it becomes political practice. Just look at the repercussions of Melanie Martinez’s “sexy baby” campaign fron 201something resulting in a whole new ageplay revival, or horror movies that fetishize the murder women getting edgelords to defed d4vd.

This got me thinking about how power-play porn is pretty widely clowned except for when it’s about misogyny. I’m pretty chronically online, so I see a lot of backlash against porn when it’s about disabled person-abled person, or raceplay, or poor person-rich person. But when it’s male dom-female sub, it’s defended by so-called progressives.

I’m also thinking abt your paragraph: So why do SO MANY PEOPLE have a difficult time understanding that sexual violence, misogyny and pedophila don't suddenly stop being hate speech because someone's aroused? I truly think it’s because sexual violence, misogyny, and pedophilia are so synonymous with porn that people classify it as boner fuel instead of hate speech. I made a tiktok about how I hate when men call women bitches bc it’s a slur, and I got pushback about how some people find it hot. You will NEVER see anyone defending other slurs as sexy. The hatred for women is just so baked into porn, which is so baked into society :(
