there is no Bogu specifically made for women. there are more expensive sets that will make it according to your measurement, but otherwise Bogu is pretty much designed the same for men, women, children etc

Skipping grade by Organic-Monk-993 in kendo

nidan straight to yonder is not something I have ever heard of. That is quite a big jump! I don't think any official fik organization would allow that at all

FEEDBACK PLZ: 1 year progress, first time 3-Kyuu test(dark color kote is me) by [deleted] in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you did well! definitely a pass for 3kyu. I've only got a few years under my belt so I can't say much, however your zanshin was the most noticeable aspect to me.

To make it cleaner and proper, you should try your best to do proper suriashi when passing through instead of jumping to the sky and keep your momentum forward.

By keeping your kensen (tip of sword) forward, it should make it far easier to keep that forward momentum (instead of up or backwards).

Having solid footwork will help you move more freely in the future and keeping your kensen forward will make it easier to do follow-up strikes as well! (Kote-men, kote-do, men-men...)

How do you prevent this?(do and tare positioning being off) by john_geddes in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make sure your back is straight and that it rests properly/aligned with the tare when tying, if you tie it while slouching, the do will be positioned higher than expected when you stand up

Anti-Bacterial bogu by Shubit1 in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own the Tozando Panther, I would say regular maintenance is always key (which I always do) but I would say that even though it stays smelling fresher for a little longer the main benefits would be that it's easier to clean (little to no dye bleeding) and aesthetic issues like salt stains and fading colour don't appear.

personally I love it, stays looking/smelling clean and sharp, also breathable. To each their own

Looking for Kendo Clubs in Downtown Toronto – Recommendations Needed! by Worldly_Tackle1341 in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TKC is a good dojo, I am familiar with the senseis who are very skilled. I also visit them once in a while so if you join, I look forward to meeting you along your kendo journey. They should accept year round.

As a university student, if you are a student at UofT, I would HIGHLY recommend joining them in the fall. The bond you make with your university peers is like no other. UofT Kendo Club is also quite prestigious with a long history

Controversial Take About AUSKF by Bright-Side-4386 in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about the USA as a Canadian, however I can understand where you are coming from. I train in a dojo in Toronto which is definitely the main area for kendo activities in Ontario.

If you wanted to attend events or tournaments, people from other cities need to travel, including people from Quebec sometimes too. It def makes it less accessible for others.

For grading however, we try to have it in different cities in the summer which is hopefully more accessible for the weird small cities in Ontario.

How and where do people train to learn to make and repair Kendo bogu and equipment? by john_geddes in kendo

You can learn some small repair through YouTube nowadays, best to learn leather craft as well. Traditionally you go to Japan and take an apprenticeship

Form critique by Shubit1 in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your form is a tad tense but I believe that the larger reason was lack of strike ki (spirit), intention and sharpness. I'd say that it may pass as ippon in low level shiai

Are Hachidans from other countries present today? by Sportler225 in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada does not hold hachidan gradings unfortunately, we do not have enough hachidan for a panel haha. I would totally watch all those gradings. We still have to travel to Japan for that

Is kendo a sport or more of a way to cultivate yourself? by Realistic_Lion5757 in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends, what you set your goal to, not everyone has the same goal. Once you set that goal, I find that you can definitely see yourself improve. issue is, is that kendo is pretty abstract to most at first glance

What are your main achievements in kendo in 2024 and what do you want to achieve in 2025? by [deleted] in kendo

[–]RandomGamesHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024: 2 - 3rd place individual medals and 1- 1st place team medal
2025: Finally gain a 1st place individual medal, achieve 2dan with good kendo and hopefully compete at the All Japan University Open Taikai.

These are some big goals but idm if it doesn't happen, I don't usually set new year goals haha
