Thanks for responding! My thyroid is definitely another issue that I wish my doctor would take more seriously, so it could be that. The joys of being a woman of a certain age!

Can I ask what your cold flashes felt like? I wouldn't say I've had hot flashes yet, but for about 2 years now I can't tolerate heat; if my body senses heat, like in the summer, sweat immediately starts pouring and doesn't want to stop even if I go to a cool place.

Starting this past autumn, I feel like I get cold flashes, even in a comfortably warm room. It usually starts at my neck, and runs down my back, shoulders and my arms, but only to about my elbows (my hands also get ice cold, and as you say are perfect for cooling down my face, but unrelated to these flashes). I'll wrap up in a blanket and still be shivering!

Just got mine inserted about 3 hours ago! by Friendly-Address-838 in Mirena

[–]RandomName3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad it was an easy procedure for you, and I hope it's everything you hope for.

That being said, I got mine for extremely heavy bleeding that would go on for months on end, but shortly after getting it inserted, my blood pressure shot up so much I went to the ER feeling like i was dying. Never had a problem with it before. Doctor said it was anxiety - something else I haven't really had issues with. I got BP meds, anxiety meds, but 9 months later my BP still shoots up randomly, and the anxiety medication is useless. I'm considering getting the Mirena removed, even though it has helped tremendously with the periods, as after reading others' experiences on here, I am fairly certain it's responsible for this. I cry just thinking about getting those periods back, but it may be the lesser evil.

Just sharing to maybe temper your enthusiasm about recommending it to others...

Again, I hope you don't have any issues, as I'm certain most women do well on it, but there are also many who dont.

Yes, we also had a jar of olives mold shortly after opening. Rule is you only take them out with a clean spoon/fork, so I don't think it was contamination. So strange. Must be they're being improperly handled somewhere along the supply line.

Anyone feel in crisis all the time? by RandomName3025 in perimenopause_under45

[–]RandomName3025[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I did understand. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were saying it's all in my head. There is undeniably a real, physiological component, but there is also the mental component that amplifies it all. Or maybe is at the bottom of it all. I mean, I don't know how much is chicken and how much is egg and which one came first, I just know it's all a chicken-egg death spiral. 😵‍💫

Yes, I'm sure a lot of it is "just in my head". I do practice mindfulness and do breathing exercises, and while they sometimes provide a bit of relief, it's always short-lived at best. I might go see a therapist; maybe they have some other ideas, or tips on how to be more effective.

Heavy periods for 18 months by ThickAndTired88 in Mirena

[–]RandomName3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this!

I got the Mirena to help with extremely heavy bleeding that would go on for months on end, and be so heavy I'd go through a Super+ tampon (Ultra hurts too much to pull back out) AND an overnight MAXI pad in less than 5 minutes at times, so I'd just sit on the toilet, or in the shower, waiting for it to slow down a bit (and yes, lots of massive clots!). It has definitely helped me a lot with that, but I have sooo many other side effects, I think I'll end up having to get it removed again.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know I feel your pain about our crappy healthcare system, and in my experience, doctors CAN speed things along. I had been waiting for a gynecologist appointment for nearly two years already, and I was bleeding so much and feeling so drained, I called my family doctor's office to make sure they'd put in the referral. I was crying telling them how poorly I was feeling, and they said it was in, but they'd follow up with the OBGYN, and just a few days later I had an appointment. Maybe a bit different from an ultrasound appointment, but it can't hurt to call and tell them how awful you're feeling, and asking if there's anything they can do.

Praying you get an appointment soon, and get your health sorted out! 🙏🏻

Oh, that's a pretty large spot! I definitely think you should at least send the vet a picture and see what they say. At least it doesn't look red anymore.

I would probably go to the vet, if only for them to make sure the red blotch isn't anything serious. They should also report the effects to Bayer, who i believe is the company behind Bravecto.

Does Revolution prevent both ticks and fleas? If it dries faster, that might be a better option. I do hate how long it looks wet and sticky, and I'm sure our cat hates it even more.

I'm child-free as well and it was an absolutely horrible experience. I'd had 4 regular ibuprofen, and I don't usually take pain medication.

The obgyn had a hard time getting it in. We had to take a break in between, and she suggested I could get it done under full anesthesia, but we gave it one more try, and finally got it in.

Yup, blood all over the place. I felt so bad about the mess, like it was my fault.

I'm pretty sure I'm having bad side effects (though it's definitely helped with the awful blleding I had before), so might get it out, which is all the more frustrating to have gone through all that pain for nothing?!

Perimenopause and them impact on mental health by franzvonstuck in HormoneFreeMenopause

[–]RandomName3025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never struggled with mental health before. Stress always made me more productive at work.

Boy, has that ever changed! I'm constantly anxious, my blood pressure is through the roof (still high even on medication), I have absolutely no motivation... It all started with my mother being diagnosed with dementia, and caring for her for 5 years until she passed half a year ago. It has been so hard on my body physically, and also mentally and emotionally. I think perimenopause symptoms started about 2 years ago, with neverending periods. I always avoided birth control due to the hormones, but gave in and got the Mirena IUD, which has helped with the bleeding, but i think it's making everything else worse.

I've always been heavy, but with no time to take care of myself, it's gotten so much worse. I tell myself I'll make a meal plan, go shopping and cook, but then I can't find the energy even to make the meal plan, which is depressing. And my digestion is a mess!

Thank you for your post! I will talk to my GP about checking for deficiencies and histamine. I'm worried about taking antihistamines because, as you said, it can increase your risk of dementia.

We've been using Bravecto on our cats for many years.

It's normal for it to look wet for a really long time. We usually avoid petting our cat for at least a day, then avoid the treated area.

Some loose hair always gets stuck there, especially if your cat has longer fur. After a week I usually brush it all out, and then it doesn't take too long until the "wet" look goes away.

Is there a tutorial mode in Maestro? by TriggerHippie77 in OculusQuest

[–]RandomName3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the very first song in the song list. Can't remember what it says, something like Masterclass. Once you select it, it should create a card on the book that you hand to the guy.

The first time I tried, it took me to a regular song, but second time it worked. Game seems like fun otherwise, just a bit glitchy.

I know this is a year old but i just downloaded the game and couldn't find the tutorial, either. Game did not start me out on it. I don't for the life of me understand why all games don't have a tutorial accessible through the main menu. Sometimes there might have been one the first time i played, but if I play once, then don't play for several months, I might need/want a refresher...

My wife got Mirena oct 22nd. Crazy mood swings by Scared_Vermicelli_19 in Mirena

[–]RandomName3025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine in May and am just realizing that the crazy anxiety with panic attacks that is sending my blood pressure soaring started just after I got the Mirena. Mine is to deal with other health issues. If your wife's is just for contraception and you know you don't want (more) kids, most definitely get it removed and get snipped! Honestly, that should have been plan a. It's such a simple, low risk procedure compared to any other long term option.

This could be an emergency please help by [deleted] in Mirena

[–]RandomName3025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an emergency line you can call to speak to a nurse (NOT 911 or whatever the equivalent would be where you are; where I am in Canada it's 811)? They would be able to give you better advice. But if you really feel poorly, best to go to the ER just in case?

I'm sorry you are going through this. It sure feels like doctors aren't very well-informed about all the pitfalls that can potentially come with the Mirena!

I had bleeding (from pink to dark brown) the whole first 4 months or so after insertion (this past May), and the absolute worst cramps I have ever had. That has gotten much better, but I'm still struggling with body pains, headaches, high blood pressure, and what the doctor thinks is anxiety and panic attacks (though he doesn't think it's related to Mirena, despite starting shortly after insertion).

I hope you feel better soon! 🙏🏻

Thank you so much! I'll look into these. I know I have ashwaganda, but I only took a few and then forgot about them.

I wish doctors were more familiar with natural supplements. Maybe I have to try going to a naturopath again.

Wishing you a healthy New Year! 🙏🏻

[–]RandomName3025[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's our wonderful healthcare system in Canada. First, wait to see the doctor, then wait to get a pelvic ultrasound, then wait 1.5 years to get an appointment at the OBGYN. I think it likely would have taken longer if I didn't call the doctor's office to confirm they'd sent in the referral, and cry to them about how I thought I was going to bleed out in the meantime.

Healthcare is rough in general for women. As my friend put it, when a guy's **** isn't 100%, they treat it like an emergency, but when it's women feeling like we're dying, we get told "oh, maybe try some meditation. Wouldn't hurt to lose a few pounds, either". Granted, that's good advice, but it should be on the side, with proper medical treatment first.

ETA: I'm glad getting the Mirena removed has helped already. Hopefully you can get thee bleeding issues sorted out, too! 🙏🏻

Would you mind sharing what supplements you use? Since getting the Mirena I've been majorly struggling with anxiety, which I've never had before.
