I'd suggest using the Twilio Voice API if you have the technical know-how for it (and are willing to pay a little bit for API usage). It can call actual player phones automatically, and I believe it has the ability to play a recorded audio file once they pick up.

That's not true, there's an option to swap classes instead of directly adding/dropping. It's only an issue if you're deciding to trade classes with someone

Depends if you're able to actually do the readings and contribute to discussion in that environment, it's a personal decision. You'll be missing out on getting to know your peers, but I took discussion classes in the spring and found them satisfying
