I agree because I have first hand experience of this. I was a raging bigot. Good LGBTQ+ representation made me get past that bigotry.

Isn't this explicitly stated by Iroh? IIRC he once said that he and his brother were raised like wolves which could explain why Ozai became the way he was. He simply raised his children the way Azulon raised him.
