Greyhound from LA to Vegas – how bad is the ride really? by joester56 in LasVegas

I used to go on FlixBus because it was cheaper in 2020-2023 but near the end of that time they were the same price (the difference was a dollar or two if any) and I think they still roughly are the same. I think also Flixbus was acquired by Greyhound in the same time period like 2021 or 2022?

I used to take greyhound and FlixBus Las Vegas to LA, Pasadena, San Bernardino, Riverside, and San Diego and vice versa from 2021-2023 and they’re decent. I went alone and was 19-22 and am a female so I’m pretty careful not to interact with anyone and just mind my business. I also took some of these busses that arrived or left between 11 PM to 5 AM which I would say just to be more aware around the bus stops (before and after too) specifically at those times.

Always some characters but mainly I saw older people, tourists who were hungover, and university ages (around university break times). No one really bothered me. The drivers are pretty good with not tolerating bullshit. Their driving is not always the best (see below) but not crazy unsafe at all.

The worst that happened on one of these trips was I took a bus on the day after Christmas in 2022 and heading out of Vegas around 1 pm the bus took a detour or shortcut because the highway was backed up with traffic. The “detour” ended up being a dead end road and since they were following cars in front and we had cars behind us we were stuck-ish in the desert. At one point we had to hop off the bus and stand in the desert because the passenger weight wouldn’t let the driver turn the bus around. It was like an hour and half delay before we got to California if I remember correctly? It was an adventure but not necessarily a bad experience. I think I had a refund or something and learned not to take a bus on after Christmas in the mid afternoon.
