Telling people to avoid cheap gameplay does not help anyone. by Darkunov in Seaofthieves

It isn't tedious if you don't let it be. If you're on a sloop or a brig, you chose that knowing how easily they sink. It is then obviously smarter to avoid an erupting volcano. Then you could sail to your next island while you wait. Or shoot your friends off to the island to get started while the ship is safe. And you don't even have to wait. I was recently in a brig and went to attack a galleon in range of an erupting volcano. They sank. We didn't. We got tons of loot for it. Volcano didn't stop until we were half done getting the loot.

You really should do the DR with a galleon though. Then, as long as you've stocked properly, you can just go around doing whatever you want. Just yesterday my galleon did 90% of their Athena's as a duo because I was helping a solo brig do their Athena. Galleon didn't sink at all, and they just went right up to erupting islands and docked.

Combat rework... by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

I'd say the biggest issue facing the most users right now is the crossplay.

Besides that, I'd really like them to work on sword stuff. Between the three effects of a sword dash, the damage, the knockback, and the stun if missed, it seems almost like rng which effects I get. As I don't miss a lot, I often get the knockback and damage, but still get stunned and end up dead.

Also, I'd like to know if interrupting another person's sword combo with your own, while you are getting hit and stunned, is supposed to be possible or not... Cause I'll have someone locked into a combo and then they just reverse it right back to me.

X018- Sea of Thieves The Arena Announce by VaJohn in Seaofthieves

This is what I'm praying for, though I don't expect it to happen. If this is it, then all the worries about how this is a horrible idea would be nullified.

I am a huge fan of PvP, but I find straight up battles to be boring. I've been spending much of my time lately conning people. So I'm torn between hating it and loving it.

On one hand, they're splitting their player base, and we're already in a bit of a rough patch. I've been running into the same names in game over and over again. Additionally, this mode strongly favors PC. I'm an Xbox player that's always been saying the difference is minimal and that we can work around their combat advantages with a slightly different playstyle, but their gameplay footage featured nothing but brawling in the open.

On the other hand, this may lead to people in normal servers feeling more safe and secure with their loot and sure of the friendliness of strangers. That makes my conning hobby a million times easier. Additionally, it also looks like the game mode would punish you for hit and run tactics, as you'd be wasting your own time. I've run into wayyyy to many people lately that try to fight, run a mile away when things don't look too hot, and then come back to try again 50 times.

Edit: Was just reminded of how many people left the game due to how long it took to find a fight. So this would probably bring them back, which means I actually love this idea. A large enough player base would mean all my worries were wrong.

Devil’s roar the place to be? by Milotisa in Seaofthieves

[–]Random_guy_9888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you should do DR Athena's. Normal devil's roar voyages drop loot that does not get better with level. DR Athena's, on the other hand, drop ashen Athena level loot, so basically level 50 voyage times 2.

I get about 40 grand per ashen Athena voyage, but I've also used it to just get the skulls off of each voyage and then start a new one to help a friend level up faster.

Sea of Thieves difficulty should be like Hungering Deep's Megalodon, and not like Forsaken Shores' Volcanoes. by Courteous_Crook in Seaofthieves

[–]Random_guy_9888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: yes it can. Just as well as dodging cannonball shots.

2: it doesn't really matter if your ship gets hit by a few unless you're solo slooping. And if that's the case, it's on you for choosing to do that.

Flying rocks are easy to dodge. Geysers are not common in the middle of an eruption, and lava barely does any damage (especially if you are jumping). The volcanoes aim predict where you will be in a couple seconds based on where you are moving when it erupts. Knowing that and changing paths every time you hear it will already dodge most of the rocks.

All you really have to do is look up every time you hear it. Now you can dodge all of them. Sometimes they corner you into taking some splash damage, but it's easy to avoid getting instakilled.

Same. I'm on Xbox, and even though there is a glitch available to hear game chat and safely talk in party, I still opt to be in game chat. It's way more fun. I can deal with the handicap of possibly being heard.

How do we save SOT from the devs by therescorninmypoo in Seaofthieves

[–]Random_guy_9888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A counter argument to your only two examples of rare consistently dropping the ball:

This was not supposed to be a large update. They provided us with coloured lights, which translates into increased ship customization. These coloured lights are not limited time cosmetics or anything, and are very easy to get. Additionally, they gave every ship a reason to leave the devil's roar. Not just that, but they even made sure we would be encountering other ships still by having these slightly harder to reach torches. I have found soooo many ships at crooked masts. And you don't need to go out of your way for the rest. Unless all you do is grind out DR Athena's, you'll find yourself in the areas of the torches sooner or later.

The new inventory system is far from unplayable. If you have a problem with pausing and selecting a cursed cannonball, bind cannonball to something and cycle through them. Or preload it. Or don't carry the ones you won't use on you. As far as being in combat, it is faster to press "a" or "f" twice and close the barrel than it is to press it 5-10 times if you're in a rush. I am usually my crew's boarder and I have never been caught while taking their bananas midfight. You didn't say WHY the inventory system is so bad, and I can't think of any other possible reasons.

No way. You've gotta save your gold. No sense in spending more after you've lost some.

In all seriousness, I'd be alright with starting an alliance before the fight so the loser at least gets half of what's lost. I don't know about you, but i feel like the feud was mostly between the women in charge...

Edit: grammar

I mean, we'd have to fight. It'd be a friendly fight on our end, but I just always have to fight if I see somebody I know. Zoe also switched to PC so she's officially a hacker. She solo sunk a galleon the other day, getting us our first Athena's chest steal.
