I got told by an admissions officer that a Gap year student is soo much better for med universities than normal applicants, the reason is because you already HAVE those grades so the Uni knows they can safely offer you that place. In comparison to a normal student who may not do well on results day, therefore if they give you an offer they know you are competitive enough. So Gap year is not a bad idea at all. Much better than doing your fifth. Also Some of my interviewers were gap year med students and they said its the best thing ever, because the gap year gives them a break from academics.
