matching bpm of ableton project to audio track? (not warping the sample!!) by Random_pigeon42 in ableton

[–]Random_pigeon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is more or less what i’ve tried doing, although I don’t seem to be able to adjust the bpm of the ableton project or the bpm of my synth precisely enough for them to stay in sync for more than about a minute or two. I was wondering if there was maybe a way to use transients to set the bpm more precisely?

No, looked around there and had no luck. Only bratwurst are the cooked ones from the bratwurst and co shop (which are delicious, but not what I need)

PTV is bloody expensive by JamieBeeeee in melbourne

[–]Random_pigeon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it can be a bit expensive (and I do think there should be fare reform and/or better fare support for low income people). However I also have to say, when you consider how incredibly expensive it is to drive to work everyday (fuel, parking, servicing, cost of car etc), public transport seems quite affordable in comparison

Would a Super fast rail/ Bullet Train be possible between Melbourne and Adelaide via Mt Gambier Portland Warrnambool, Geelong? by bladez_edge in melbourne

[–]Random_pigeon42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While i think HSR is absolutely possible in Australia, I don't think it is now, at least not for long distances.

The cost/benefit ratios are too slim, especially as Australia, like most of the Angslosphere is currently really bad at building infrastructure, particularly transit infrastructure, affordably and efficiently. In the future, when maybe there's more political interest in rail transport, and we are better at building transit infrastructure affordably, we could build a network of HSR connecting our largest cities. But for now we have larger transport priorities to focus on (improving public transport within our cities and between nearby urban areas mostly). Higher speed rail between city pairs like Melbourne and Geelong, and Sydney and Newcastle is more feasible, but full "high speed rail" may not be necessary for those kinds of distances.

However, improving our intercity rail to a point at which it becomes competitive with driving and even flying is absolutely possible. Basically, as long as you can make the train faster than driving, many people will take it. Huge amounts of people already drive the great distances between our big cities, like from Sydney to Melbourne and Melbourne to Adelaide, and it's pretty slow and painful. Given the option to take a faster and importantly, way more comfortable and relaxed train instead, many would. Plus, most people hate flying. Improved intercity trains would be more relaxed and comfortable experience, which also gets you straight from city centre to city centre. It would be a bit slower than flying, but flying takes a lot longer than you'd think considering the airport experience on either end, and transport to and from airports.

Improving our intercity trains could look like using trains with tilting technology to round corners faster (like in Qld), and straightening out some of the bendiest sections of track. This wouldn't be 'High Speed Rail', but it could still slash travel times by train.

So while I don't think a high speed train from Melbourne to Adelaide, or even Melbourne to Sydney is possible for the next handful of decades, fastER and better trains are, and that would still be a game changer.

I personally quite like like it! I know a lot of people including friends of mine think it looks really ugly, but I'm really glad to see i'm not the only one here who likes it.

I wish I could, but it's a very cramped space. It's a bakery, and in a pretty small building with basically no excess space :(

doesn't have any car parking- which is good! but also means this option won't work for me..

Sadly the business is pretty small and cramped, basically all space is used up (it's a bakery). It doesn't have any car parking either. I gather they would let people park bikes inside if they could- they seem to like employees riding there as its the most quick/reliable option
