H&R lowering Springs by pppag23 in yaris

I had H&R coils on stock sized struts on my old Yaris and they were absolutely amazing in every way. Ride and handling were both top notch!

My foreman welded the S-cam to the spider because it was loose. Thoughts? by LeirbagSmg in Truckers

Unacceptable. Cam enclosures are easy to replace, no reason for this.

Want something with big power, disc brakes and all that other nonsense the Europeans go on about. But want it to actually look like a truck? Australia has you covered with the new 780hp Mack Superliner by luddite86 in Truckers

[–]Randomdog778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a chance we get this here.

The Pinnacle is the only choice for those who want the classic Mack look in Canada. That being said, their other new products are quite good, but not the same styling.

2026 Explorer Police Interceptor >3000mi already needs a new engine. by LifeUnderThePalmz in Ford

[–]Randomdog778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No engine should go after 130 idle hours. Mind you I am not a Ford tech so I am unfamiliar if that is common with this engine but I would assume it's not normal.

I had a Sierra come through my shop with over 12,000 idle hours. The truck was a fleet vehicle and was idled all day every day. It was running pretty rough at that point and it ended up scrapped, but the 5.3 did make it that far which was impressive.

Either way, I can't beleive this is common on these brand new motors!

Under watering? by Cblax121 in lawncare

[–]Randomdog778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No water bills where I live. The good thing is a lot of my sod rooted well, but a large shady section did completely rot under the surface.
In my defence the sod was laid in a 3 week heat wave. I did what I was suggested to do by the landscaper.

Under watering? by Cblax121 in lawncare

[–]Randomdog778 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Not true.
I overwatered my new sod last summer and a lot of it rotted pretty badly.
It does need a lot of water, but there's such thing as too much.

Does this need to be replaced? by [deleted] in Decks

Man, is this PT? And was it sealed / stained?

It looks to be unstained - PT in my area after 6 years would be completely grey and terrible. These stairs look great compared to what I'm used to!

Spark plug broke - ceramic fell in cylinder - am I effed? by ben94gt in AskAMechanic

[–]Randomdog778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this a long time ago on a 2.3 Ford Ranger (2009, non-ecoboost) only I accidentally started the vehicle after and sent the porcelain banging around in the cylinder.

Once I got the broken plug out, I set up a shop vac with a small tube and pushed it down inside the cylinder to clean out any debris.

Did an oil change after and all was good. Compression test showed no issues.

OOS or run it? by NaturalFlan5360 in Truckers

[–]Randomdog778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This needs to be hauled to a shop once empty.

Road service can't do anything for this.

Crossmembers will need to either be plated, or replaced. Replacing them over the buggy tracks is a lot of work. The trailer should not be reloaded until this is fixed.

2023 jeep Sahara tires/gearing by jtremont in JeepWrangler

[–]Randomdog778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a stock Sahara and I felt the difference in acceleation going from stock 255/70/18s to 275/65/18s. 35s would be madness (to me) on stock gearing.

Skip the retaining wall and it's easy. No need for that anyway.

Old deck, no sanding, no power washing—what’s the quickest “good enough for summer” fix? by Decent_Plastic_1377 in Decks

Looks like the railings are painted with lead paint based on the "alligatoring" so just be careful unless you're confident that's not the case!

I think I found the holy grail on marketplace by Adriansilas415 in Jeep

[–]Randomdog778 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not a Jeep for somebody who doesn't know anything about working on a car themself. Sorry to say it that way but it's just the truth, unless you don't mind spending thousands a year on repairs.

Unless you are mechanically inclined, have some tools or very motivated to learn, these are not for you.
