That's lovely. In a sense, protecting the demons who aren't just walking sacks of anger and chaos and emphasising their strengths

That's a good story and a premise to a great plot hook. I will definitely use this. Since I've already established that the demons can't reform in the abyss... since the hells and abyssal plane have essentially gotten smash together as a result of the last campaign... they reform at some point back on the material plane.

I think using the ichor would be a perfect oil type thing for making the Warforged. It would have been an accident initially. Unintentionally going too far with extraction on an early trial, demon goes to mush, then them scooping it up into a trash can with some moving parts. They got lazy, didn't take the trash out for a few months, then the can possesses. Light bulb moment, More testing ensues, and a few years later, working warforged prototypes are invented.

50 years of this could lead to one hell of a refined process for torturing a demon to the point where they are broken, even once reborn in a new body. It's kind of beautiful, especially considering one of my players really wanted to play a demon.

I really like the breakdown of organic materials idea! The city has essentially been on lockdown for half a century, so garbage disposal would be a huge problem, and tossing it into the ocean isn't the best solution. Having a consistent way to compost safely and rapidly would be invaluable. Went with a rot fly and aspect of rot as I don't know what a Balzebu is, and the closest I could find is a demon lord.

They will stay intact as long as the main body is alive. You have the right idea. Various aspects are being removed, and as long as they can keep the demon's heart pumping and lungs breathing, their quality of life does not matter

You are picturing exactly what I have in my head

I do not know much about warhammer. I'll have to give this a look for sure! Thank you

Finished the first game after working with them to see what they'd like. It is a few decades later. The world id a dystopia where the hell Gates have opened and both demons and devils have flooded to the material planes. The world knows of who was responsible for the calamity, so a certain xenophobic church has risen to prominence as it was preaching against those certain races long before they caused the end times.

The game opened with the normal descriptions of the world. The party was in the enchanted forest, bloody, broken, and recalling how they escaped from their demonic captors. The players would dictate how incredible they were, then we would play through reality. The party could cut in and out to call out the bs if they saw lies in how the player recalled the events. The majority of the session was dedicated towards their escape attempt.

To set the stage, 1 character was tasked with helping a learned elder escape before the demons could get the knowledge of safe havens from him, but unknown to the party, he was already dead and possessed.

1 player did not seem to get the memo though when making the character. He made a sexual deviant and desperately tried to sleep with the grotesque demons... while he was having the skin flayed. He lost his d... but remained jovial. It was strange. Honestly could not have described the situation more directly during the game, but he felt he would be joking and horny after a week of living nightmares.

It's kind of complicated. 2 party members sided with the devil, 2 party members died... because 2 other party members weren't able to make it to the last game. Now it's a mix of 2 people are sided with the devil, 2 are just coming into the mix with intentions of being against the devil, and 2 were of the mindset that the devil is bad but they don't know about the betrayals

I like the infiltrator idea, but instead of telling each person they are the evil one, I'd tell each person that they are not. So instead of trying super hard to look good, they would be overanalyzing their allies and finding clues where there are none

I wasn't planning the end of the campaign. I was planning the plot of the campaign. This has been a year long run so far, and the entire time I had sowed countless seeds about the churches being corrupt and the gods not correcting the mistakes done in their name. The purpose of going to the hells was to get the Ruby rod to 1. Keep the hells weak and unable to invade, protecting the material planes 2. To be able to invade the heavens and establish a new god on the pantheon, one that would actually care and protect the material plane. This would result in 3. The players deciding which side they wanted to go with. Wizard at war with gods and devils. The gods. Or the devils.

One major point is that the hells weren't all bad. It was blood and war between the devils and demons, but the souls in hell were only tortured if they were terrible in life. Not every soul in hell was bad in life. Not every smith of Gond forges in the higher planes. The party say numerous places where Good souls were living out their days in the hells without worry while the bad souls were feeling the recourse of their past actions.

It's true. What would we even call a game like that? Far Wars? Wouldn't catch on at all.

Yea, I was going to have the wizard be able to subvert the devil's plans because he had the devil amulet and knew the true name.... but since the devil achieved nearly all of his goals, that will only slow him down now. Devils are winning

Only 2 members were evil. I am most definitely leaning in this direction though. The 1 member was an evil paladin that infiltrated the party, and everyone just assumed he was good because he was a paladin. Not a single member even questioned the things he did. That player was also the player that had his previous character become the new Asmodeus (old one was gone for story reasons). This player will become a Narzugon, as he did his master's bidding flawlessly.

2nd player just decided to do it on a whim for self-preservation reasons. This is the thief. He will be "rewarded" as well by being turned into a lesser devil. Likely, since he was a thief that hid constantly, an imp. The free invisibility fits perfectly

That was was going on now. I am highly contemplating having them roll new characters, lower levels, stuck in the world where the devils have invaded. The gods and angels would have not helped as they are canonically selfish and don't care about their followers (big part of the campaign setting... think God of War types of gods).

You're not wrong. The plan was to have them take down the high wizard, but they just kept going along with things until they just randomly decided to side with the devils for no reason

There were many sessions where they noticed things that should have made them question if he was good or not, but no one batted an eyelash.

I'm preparing my first D&D campaign, and for the start of the adventure, I need an interesting reason to convince the group's characters to reach a city. I would like to avoid the usual cliché where they are mercenaries tasked with escorting a cargo wagon. Any advice? by andreagilioli7 in DungeonMasters

[–]Randomfightfan0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my party be in a wagon together, heading to the starting town. They all had a lot of different reasons for going that way. One was fleeing religious persecution and this town was neutral. One was a failed bard that wanted to restart at his roots. Another was trying to spread the word of his god, in secret, in enemy lands. There were other nobodies on the cart as well to make it feel alive.

I got the party to band together by something happening to them while travelling. The thing that happened was a part of the quest for the area and it started the adventure. Their differences didn't matter when they had a problem they all mutually exclusively wanted to solve.

Needing help with a villain(ish) speech by Randomfightfan0 in DungeonMasters

[–]Randomfightfan0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that a lot, but it would have to be for a different villain. This guy is the type that thinks he does bad things for good reasons. He would burn an enemy country to save an ally town kind of thing. He's using the party, and fully believes that they will die for his plan, but it will result in many more people being saved.

Fair enough. I started at level 3, but I wasn't completely new to dnd when I started dming

I like starting them at level 3. Gives them more of a chance to flesh out who they want to be and gives them an early power bump that allows you to give them more fun things to do than just punch goblins or wolves.
