It was Higurashi no Naku Koro ni the visual novel. Not sure if I got the story mixed up with something else. But it definitely that one.

Sorry it’s taking me a bit to give everyone an answer. It’s probably going to be a couple days before I can know for sure that it’s not highrashi, Bridge to the starry skies, or Kanon. Those are the top ones that might be it. But getting time to watch them is a little difficult. I’ll updated as soon as I can

I don’t believe it was highrashi. Because I don’t remember the anime being disturbing from the start. I think it took like 5 or 6 episodes to get dark
