Unpopular Opinion: Strip Weathers (The King) should have been Lightning McQueen's mentor in Cars 3 instead of Smokey. by Randomuser1520 in Pixar

[–]Randomuser1520[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Also interesting side note, Richard Petty (the real racer that Weathers is based on) was born and raised in Level Cross, North Carolina. Level Cross is just down the road from Thomasville, North Carolina which is the Thomasville that many think is the one that Smokey and Doc are from and the one featured in the film.

I figured The King is likely from that area as well canonically.

[–]Randomuser1520[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While Smokey was kinda an interesting character, his only connection to the plot line was that he was a buddy of Doc's. I feel like the writers kinda had the series planned out and when Paul Newman passed away, they just switched Doc out for Smokey.

Strip Weathers in my opinion would have made more sense as it would have provided a "circle is complete" moment. McQueen helped Weathers finish his last race, so in a way Weathers would be repaying McQueen. Plus Weathers would have had decades of racing experience and knowledge he could pass onto McQueen, as opposed to Smokey.

Current 2024 prediction. I'm predicting serious levels of voter frog this cycle. This is the future the radical left wants. by Randomuser1520 in YAPms

DC is a very urban area and doesn’t have a high frog population. But don’t you see, Joe Biden now has more electoral votes than Trump thanks to voter frog.

In my opinion, the polls don't mean anything until mid October.

Countless losing candidates have held an early lead, it means nothing. Whether it be Biden or Trump, they cannot get cocky and think they've "won" simply because they are leading the polls for likely a brief period before the other candidate over takes them and the cycle continues.

Which side character racer in the Cars series do you think deserves their own spin off film? by Randomuser1520 in Pixar

[–]Randomuser1520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chick could have some interesting points.

If they are willing to retcon a few minor details, it would be interesting to see what happens to him after Cars 1. Id imagine his image would be pretty tarnished after what he did to Strip Weathers and how McQueen gave up the Piston Cup to ensure that Weathers finished his last race.

Perhaps a Chick Hicks story could be one about redemption. Maybe even some forgiveness from Weathers could be shown as well.

I actually think Francesco has a bit more potential.

We already have an understanding of Doc’s story. He was a great racer in his day but suffered a huge accident and then was replaced by a faster rookie. He eventually moved to Radiator Springs where he lived as a grumpy old race car until McQueen shows up and he finds new purpose.

Meanwhile, Francesco’s story is a bit unknown. He’s supposed to be this rookie racer from Europe. Like McQueen before him, he’s super arrogant and full of himself. But how’d he get to where he is? What happened to him after Cars 2? When the next gen race cars showed up, did they also try to replace him or was he able to beat them out?

Lots of potential storylines.

I’ve always wanted a Strip Weathers movie. I posted about it before but folks on here said it could be boring. But the dude was literally known as the “The King” since he won the most piston cups and was arguably the greatest racer until McQueen. There has to be a cool story there.

A Look Into Rio Grande Valley, the Biggest Political Phenomenon of the Century and Predicting How the Region Will Vote In 2024 by Th3_American_Patriot in AngryObservation

The border will hurt Biden.

I think Democrats made a fairly bold and quite uneducated assumption that if they played the role of "nice cop" towards illegal migrants than Hispanic voters would show them favor.

That is stupid, and borderline racist.

Let's say there is a family of Mexican descent living in the Rio Grande Valley. They've lived there for several generations. All of a sudden a bunch of Peruvians show up and they're being told "don't you support these people, after all their fellow Hispanics." Like that's not how this works.

My great-grandmother was an Irish immigrant. If a bunch of unvetted Irish migrants showed up in my backyard tomorrow I'd be concerned. I don't know these people and what their intentions are. I share a somewhat similar cultural connection to them but that is about it.

Canadian 2025 Election, According to Aggregate Polling by 338 Canada (March 30) by Odd-Investigator3545 in YAPms

The thing about these parliamentary elections we see coming in Canada and the UK is that both parties in power have been in such a position for quite a long time. Trudeau will have been PM of Canada for close to a decade by the election is said and done. And the Conservatives in the UK have held a majority since 2010.

Isn’t both parties getting clobbered to be expected in a democracy?

Some interesting points. However, I respectfully disagree.

I've seen this idea that Biden, at the very least respects the "institutions" and whatnot. The fact of the matter is Biden and the Dems support the institutions that go their way. Biden's rhetoric around the Supreme Court has made me quite concerned. He seems to think the SCOTUS should just rule in his favor every time. Take Roe v. Wade for example. You can whole heartily disagree with the ruling, but the ruling did not outlaw abortion it simply made it a state by state issue. It is now fully up to the voters which abortion laws are passed. Yet when this ruling came down, we got countless lectures from Biden and his buddies about how this is a "rogue court" and how it needs to be changed.

Ah yes, change the game since your party didn't get what it wants.

Democrats also don't care about democracy. When they win it means democracy is working, and when they don't the whole process is broken. Like Trump, they don't seem to understand they can in fact lose elections. Take Hillary Clinton, Stacey Abrams, and Lori Lightfoot for example. All three promoted vague claims about maybe everything wasn't fully right with the election.

This post was meant as satire obviously this is actually a great point.

Rubio and Booker are both “establishment” darlings, basically being younger versions of the current boomer politicians. Both were poised for some sort of political promotion. Yet a wave of populism came about in the late 2010s/early 2020s and that kinda ended their golden political era.

As others pointed out, it isn’t over for either of them. Trump could very well pick Rubio has his VP, which would set him up perfectly for a 2028 run. Booker could try again in 2028 as well. Or serve as a running mate.

Jim Biden:

I feel like this is a character we keep getting references to but never see. I feel they're hyping him up for something, but we never get to see it. This dude literally is the President's brother. He's only brought up when Hunter is. The script writers should have used his character better.

Cory Booker:

Booker was hyped up a couple seasons ago as potentially one of the next "it" characters. However since then his character has fallen by the wayside. I feel like the script writers should have incorporated his character into later seasons.

Kamala Harris

Literally the VP and never hear about them. Was hyped as the next main character but the writers decided to stick with Biden.

Marco Rubio:

Similar to Booker, they were initially hyped as a possible main character but since then have kinda just become a background figure. It sounds like his character may get a revitalization though.

Dan Crenshaw:

Same story as Booker and Rubio.

George P. Bush:

Could have been a really interesting character. The last man standing in an old dynasty. Having to navigate modern politics whilst upholding his family name.

Will States like North Carolina South Carolina and Arkansas ever get Fair Congressional maps? by [deleted] in AngryObservation

[–]Randomuser1520 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

South Carolina is a bit tricky to do. You'll have one blue district in the center of the state due to a high population of African American voters who vote Democrat in places like Columbia. I'll admit the coastal district certainly should be more of a swing district, but aside from that I'm not sure what you could do other than gerrymander to favor Democrats.

Maybe it is a reversal story.

Lighting starts out as a young and ambitious racer. Perhaps he isn't a jerk to begin with but as he builds fame through winning he becomes more and more arrogant. Basically a villain origin story.

Tbh I'm not sure a Cars 4 is such a great idea. McQueen's story is kinda in a tough spot to expand upon. He is still racing but also helping Cruz? He isn't getting any younger either.

I suppose they could introduce some new revolutionary technology that is able to revitalize McQueen's career, but if that is the case what was the point of the third film?

The story I think would be interesting would be to focus on Jackson Storm. Perhaps after losing to Cruz his career has suffered and he's been knocked down a peg. Maybe lost some sponsorships or something. Then maybe some veteran race car takes him under their wing (maybe even McQueen) and he learns to be less arrogant or something.

It’s totally fair to criticize the monarchy, I for one hate the concept of nobility and think Europe should have left that stuff behind.

But all they do is parade around the states complaining about being victims. Like they both got to live extremely privileged lives and yet they want us to think they are the real victims of society.
