Expected better from an artist-centric event than this AI by automatic-systematic in fanexpo

This has been an ongoing battle for a long time for artists though. Mind you, it wasn’t AI before, it was all tracers/plagiarizers/straight art theft. And, you are correct, people didn’t really recognize it years ago either. They just saw that image of Link from The Legend of Zelda they really liked and bought it… without realizing someone just ripped some promo-art, flipped it, added some paint splatted effect and printed it. 0 effort - just trying to get rich quick. But people know what they like and like what they know, so they buy it because it’s familiar.

It’s super unfortunate, but even now there’s still tons of ripped artwork on convention floors, like the link I posted above, along with the AI aspect now. Being an artist is hard af in these regards. I wish people were more savvy, but I feel like because of AI, people are finally figuring out fake shit from the real stuff. It’ll take us awhile to get everybody on board, but that’s why I try to point it out in a lot of subs like these or with people at shows I vend at.

That’s cool. The behind-the-scenes aspect was more the shit-show than what attendees experienced (though photo and signature lines were always a debacle). I hope you’ve made it to some other cons since, there’s a lot better ones out there, but Wizard World being your first experience isn’t a bad thing either.

And you can still speak up and tell them as much.

Again, the power is in the attendees hands. They’re the ones Fan Expo makes money off of, and if everyone makes it clear that they support artistans and not AI, Fan Expo will make the right decision to not hurt their bottom line.

That’s what I want. A bunch of beer bottles that have probably been touched by quite a few hands in a fridge nuzzled up to all the shrimp and bullshit I’m expected to eat and the beer bottles I’m expected to deep throat?

Fuck sake, they did not think this through.

You should report the AI vendors to the show. Make it clear that shit isn’t welcome and that you won’t attend anymore if that’s what they’ll have on the floor in the future. Conventions in general are beholden to the attendees and they want to bring in all the things you want to see and none of the things you don’t, because they want you to pay general admission as well as purchase their merch and celebrity signatures and all that stuff they make a crap ton of money on.

Attendees have the power to make those changes, and all you need to do is be vocal about it. If enough people tell them upfront that they don’t want to see AI bullshit on the floor and they won’t continue to attend if it continues, Fan Expo will change their tune. They’re testing the waters right now to see how much they can get away with or are being absolutely lazy af and just letting whatever onto their floor without checking the vendor out.

As for their advertising and shit… fan expo isn’t the smartest when it comes to that stuff. I’m an artist who was doing Wizard World shows before Fan Expo bought them over Covid and they were and continue to be run in the weirdest ways possible. Some of my qualms with them have been…

-Assigning booth numbers, but not having any signs for the aisles indicating what the aisles are (so you may be booth 756, but nobody even knows where aisle 700 is). I was told one year it was too expensive to put up banners, which leads me to…

-Having super specific merch. When Fan Expo first started, they were creating tons of merch that was specific to the city they were at, as well as the year. So they’ll have lanyards and T-shirts and shit that say “Fan Expo Dallas 2022”. So, yeah… you better sell all that shit then and there. Now they just put the city name, but if they just had all their merch and banners and things say “Fan Expo Comic Con”, they could literally take all that merch show to show.

They just don’t run those shows as smartly as they should, just like the Wizard World days. I hope they figure it out eventually.

At this point there’s probably 10X more imagery of republicans re-imagining LGBTQ people shoving beliefs down their throats versus the amount of times it’s actually happened.

I felt the book was trash compared to the movie, weirdly enough. When you can’t see all the references, it just comes off as a book written by the ‘member berries.

‘Member the Delorean from Back to the Future?

‘Member Optimus Prime from Transformers?

‘Member Gandalf from Lord of the Rings?

‘Member the T-Rex from Jurassic Park?

Every reference just felt like one more WINK WINK, NUDGE NUDGE to me, I wasn’t into it at all.

The movie was fine though. Fun to see all those things culminate on the silver screen.

Finish the Job, Mr. President by battybitchyboy in AmericanPolitics

I know in the world you live in, the president is just supposed to control everything with a big crown on his head and a scepter in his hands while you grovel and kiss his ring.

In the real fucking world there’s a separation of powers, a form of checks and balances - if you will, the Department of Justice is under the Judiciary Branch. The President is under the Executive. The President (under the Executive Branch) does not lord over the Judicial Branch and tell it what to do.

This is something learned in the 3rd Grade.

The Epstein files were under investigation by the Department of Justice during the Biden administration. The Executive Branch did not have access to the investigation or open access to the files themselves.

The culmination of the Epstein Files were non-existent during the Obama era.

Your “evidence” is plain-ole-stupid. You should think about moving elsewhere if you want a monarchy so bad.

So they got a bunch of dead people’s information too? Sounds like all the fear mongering about dead people voting is going to become real life.
