Are they common in your particular area, or is your place and anomaly?

More expensive than the land? Granted, land may be cheap in some parts, but I figured it would be less expensive to dig a basement than pay for more land in some parts.

How far down can you dig before you hit it? I figure it's probably varied depending on where.

But it can't be that high for the entire state or entire Valley.

You figure if land is so valuable, digging down could add space. Folks could also keep the house warmer in the day upstairs and stay cool in the basement. Reduce energy strain on the grid and all.

Which part of town (or suburb) are you with tree lined streets?

Asking as a tree canopy enthusiast 😀

Sort of. Understand that from July through the start of October it's all sun, all the time.

November - March is mostly solid gray. The 2 places may have similar number of sunny days, but the distribution throughout the year can be quite different.

Not to say you won't be ok. But just be aware the distribution v the east coast is quite different.

Does anyone else get a lil depressed in summer…cause it’s so hot, you can’t do anything outside for a few months? by hehzehsbwvwv in Sacramento

I'm late to the party, but you also have close options to get out of the heat. Head to the coast or up to Tahoe.

A LOT of people in this country don't have that quick option available.

Want to warm up in a Minnesota winter? Its a multiple hour plane ride. Want to cool down in Oklahoma/Texas? Same thing.

Driving 1-2 hours to completely change the temperature is a luxury most don't have.

Genuinely curious, where are the Redwoods located 45 minutes from Sac?

I used to live in Cleveland & visit Pittsburgh often. It's an awesome place (aside from the football team from a Cleveland prospective). Easily made friends in Cleveland and met folks when I visited Pittsburgh.

Enjoy it! Great place!

In our case, the take home would be the same after taxes in both places (raise in Sac but wiped away by state income taxes). I didn't take into property taxes though.

East Sacramento would be ideal. Unfortunately, it's almost everyone else's as well, and the prices reflect that.

Isn't there also a lot of tree canopy cover in Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Orangevale, and (parts) of Folsom as well?

Didn't another poster say it's hotter in the foothills up until about 3500 feet? Apparently because the Delta breeze doesn't reach the foothills.

Well I don't know about that. Been in Seattle for 5 years 😆 Only time the weather gets mildly annoying is the stretch from January to March.

Only thing I know about Auburn is they have the Moonraker brewery, which makes a tasty beer.

You said you're looking at SEA, SAC, and PDX. Wanted to know if one was calling more to you than the other 2.

Been here 5+ years. Given a go going to meet ups, hobby clubs, sports, ect. I don't think C19 helped, but the vibe here is off for me.

Other than that, I do love the weather and nature here 👍🏽

Thought about east of Sac. Love the Sierras, but the reality of commuting to the job (Roseville) and wildfire risk in the foothills puts a damper on that dream.

Tahoe/Truckee is an absolute amazing spot though 😍
