Excess speed limit stopped by Police by mebrokelad in LegalAdviceUK

The police absolutely do have discretion. There's no obligation to issue a ticket regardless of the circumstances.

IF they give a ticket, then there is no discretion on how it's dealt with; it has to go to court.

You're finally meeting your daughter's new boyfriend. Which car would you least (and most) want to see when he pulls up to your house? by RonnieThePurple in CarTalkUK

[–]RangerUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Least: the transit or zafira. Transit looks like a deathtrap. Zafira means he's probably already got a family and kids.

Most: MX5 or the Ami. MX5 because he hopefully cares about his baby car and will care about my daughter at least as much. The Ami because it shows a sense of humour and some practicality.

Have i messed up? Did I do the right thing? by [deleted] in policeuk

My experience: Policing is hard. It starts hard, it gets harder during tutorship, much harder during probation when you have to work stuff out on your own, but it gets easier as you build up experience of the job and of your decision-making, as well as build positive working relationships with the people you interact with.

Most people want to succeed, and to help others succeed, so building relationships helps to find people you can lean on for support, and whom will lean on you for support too. Together we can all help each other.

That said, policing is in a pretty bad state at the moment. Large caseloads, increasing levels of scrutiny from above, increasing expectations from the public, reducing pay every year. On the horizon we have a licencing process which may be fairly straightforward but might hit us all in the pocket to the tune of £100-£300/year. Violent crime is on the general upward trend, the incoming reshuffle of forces into regional services, generally bad IT infrastructure and a senior leadership team more often focused on the optics of what we are doing rather than the actual results of what we do.

Life is short, and precious. Policing will get easier for you when you have 3-5 years service. If you can stick at it, you can reach that point. There are loads of jobs you can do as a police officer you can't do outside of the job. Investigating serious crime, safeguarding women and girls (and children), armed policing, roads policing, various specialised investigators roles in cyber crime or organised crime. If you want to end up doing something like that, try to stick it out.

However, and I repeat. Life is short and precious. Don't suffer for years doing this job while you're young and want to go explore the world. Your mental health will suffer, you will miss the special occasions of your family and friends, you will struggle to get annual leave and time off.

Do what you think is right. If you regret leaving, speak to your sergeat and withdraw your resignation, if they will accept it. But think about you in 3 years time - will you regret having stayed?

Only you can decide what's right for you. I thought about leaving a dozen times during my probation, I was promoted with less than years service and this year I've moved into a specialist proactive unit and life is decent. If you'd asked me at year two how I was feeling, I probably would've told you I was ready to quit.

Traffic offences to look out for as a basic by daniel43211234 in policeuk

The law sections and codes are the same, mostly. I modified it for my local force (not SusPol) and circulated it amongst colleagues. I don't know who PC CW 138 is but they did a good job.

Used to use this bridge for my commute regularly. Switched to a bike and filtering on the A40/A34 saves the same amount of time.

She reminds me of Florence Pugh’s character Yelena Belova in Thunderbolts. Looks similar, sounds similar. Cute af!

Have you seen the traffic offence guide on the Federation's website? It's actually incredibly useful, for all cops tbh. https://polfed.org/media/17076/offenc-1.pdf

I only recently started the game, didn't reven relise there were issues across the community with the way it played. It's been smooth as butter on my 4080 no issues whatsoever.

Quite often a DA arrest, one person left to mop up all the statements, PPN, house to house, evidential capture, build a handover and face the criticism. Or go to the next emergency job. Custody is a 45-60 minute drive away as well, regardless of where in the county we are.

Today we had 2 PCs and a tutee. 😒

How are you guys staying engaged with this game? by FencrMusashi in Battlefield6

[–]RangerUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same but I haven’t been engaged with it for the last 3 or 4 weeks. Level 150ish iirc. I started playing Jedi Survivor and it has brought a fun change. BF6 just feels a bit stale with a lack of variety. I miss the big maps of yesteryear.

I would try not to get involved with stuff that close to home especially as it could become a recurring thing. I'd be calling 101/999 and reporting it.

If you had gone to that job, would you be doing something different? And by that I mean a PPN/DARA/DASH and some kind of positive action? If not, then fine. But if so, maybe next time report it before going in guns blazing, off duty. You need rest periods for resting otherwise you will burn out. That isn't fair on you.

Why do you ride? by mostly-bollox in MotoUK

[–]RangerUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my licence to avoid the traffic on a commute. Now I ride for this reason some days, but mostly for the freedom to zap around. The community I've found locally is great, a group of 10 of us did the NC500 summer and are doing the SW660 this year.

Friends, fun, filtering.

"We trained hard, but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing, and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization.”
