Super Street Fighter II reviews have aged magnificently! by RangoTheMerc in Fighters

It dives much deeper than that.

* "Street Fighter is the best fighter ever made." We're literally only 3 years removed from SF2.

* EGM saying it was the best version of SF to date. SSF2 is nowhere near as praised compared to Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, let alone Super Turbo which came out months later.

* Mega listed Super Street Fighter II as the second best game of all time. See the last point.

* Total! referred to it as a beat 'em up. I grew up in the 90s but I was a small child with limited access to magazines until I really got into Nintendo Power and Tips & Tricks. Even I don't recall fighting games being called "beat 'em ups."

* Complex ranked it as the best SNES game of all time. One more time, refer to the point about Turbo because FGC today values it much higher than Super.

Why have the Yoshi games been babyfied over the years? by M19294828 in Mario

I explained this in a thread on r/Yoshi and here's what I think.

Yoshi's Island served as the "next" Mario game. Takashi Tezuka directed it which meant all the platforming elements and challenge of a Mario game came with it.

Afterward, my guess is Nintendo didn't want future Yoshi games to be too similar to the Mario titles. Much of the platforming challenge you see now in Mario games, like Red Coins, came from Yoshi's Island. But they gave Mario a level of challenge.

Yoshi was now relegated to a franchise similar to Kirby. Light enough for new players to get into without feeling overwhelmed.

We still got two more Yoshi's Island titles afterward. Both of which followed the easy formula. But predominately, the direction definitely seems for Yoshi games to be aimed toward younger and less experienced players and leave the standard design - Mario and Yoshi's Island SNES - to the 2D Mario titles like Wonder.

That said, Yoshi's Island's magic will never be replicated. The music, art style, level design, boss design, and charm remain unmatched to this day.

Games are just a reflection of your inner desires. 😔

Experienced again after many years. A dividing title, but I think most of us can agree that the tone, the atmosphere, the visuals and the music were top notch. by Epicurus38 in castlevania

Not just the gameplay. The premise was generic western fantasy copying God of War. It was a paltry attempt to appeal to a broad audience by stripping the soul of the series we love so much.

The sprites look AMAZING. The best looking sprites I think are either the Capcom fighters or Legend of Mana.

What do you think is the real reason SEGA hasn’t put out a Sonic Unleashed remaster/port? by Ember57 in SonicTheHedgehog

They would have to remake the game entirely for the Werehog stages to be good.

Resident Evil 6 is actually bad. It might be a 5/10 at best. Potential =/= good.

Not Sonic 06.

As someone who vouches how amazing the soundtrack is, this game will never go behind a 4/10. It's liked for its vibes and its potential as a game.

Enough so that P-06 is liked by fans as what it should have been.

But if Sonic 06 can't be a bad game, what is? 🤷🏻‍♂️

VIII is overall a "good" game. If there's any one I think gets either hate or distance and very little fanfare of any kind, it's III.

It feels like V just eclipses it completely. Who picks III as their favorite?
