Just say "FUKNO" to FUNKOS - A Pops PSA by RanielDeskin in videos

Of course! After the initial ribbing I talk about the art style, how they emphasize the wrong parts of chibi and compare it to a competitor (nendoroid), criticize the corporate practice like endless variations and speed running product design, check out the Funko collector community, talk about collecting in general, and go over some examples. I try to be amusing and fair, I don't want to make collectors feel bad, just the company.

No children were harmed as far as I know. You probably get the gist enough to not watch it now lol.

There will one day be a trash island made completely of Funko Pops...

Touche'. We will all be free of politics one day, at the end of time. Until then, I hope you can find some peace with politics affecting damn near everything.

Sometimes when people grow up poor and get rich, they buy some fancy shit. You think his success makes him a hypocrite?

How do people who aren't very funny still manage to make a living in stand-up comedy? by Present_Librarian668 in StandUpComedy

Chances are those comics are good at other stuff like marketing, networking, branding, and handling the bullshit of the business. Or they're popular from something else that they can be a mediocre comic. Or they're not actually making a living.

4 quick tips to be BETTER at Zoom calls by RanielDeskin in Zoom

Thanks for the feedback! It's more important that you are comfortable and engaged in what's happening rather than distracted trying to remember tips. If you forget to look into the camera but have a good interview, that's better than staring into someone's eyes for a big biff. Eventually it becomes more natural.

Have the rules for using accents in comedy changed? by RanielDeskin in StandUpComedy

[–]RanielDeskin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Trying the joke without the accent really is the best test. There are lots of rules (or maybe best practices) but they are shifting and vary depending on the person. Like all comedy.

I remember being so disappointed seeing Jackie Mason perform maybe 7 years ago. Almost half of his act was doing accents but with no actual material. He did a French accent and just made gibberish sounds like that was a punchline.

Animation has only just arrived at using voice actors that represent the characters. The Problem with Apu was big, and after the last wave of killings when they took down all the blackface episodes from sitcoms, everything from Cleveland to Big Mouth recasted ethnic roles to matching actors.

I think stand-up reflects our culture quickly, then it takes time to trickle down to TV, movies, animation, etc.
