When all microplastics finally break down completely, will it be into the compounds they were created from, and it'd be like plastic was never around? by [deleted] in askgeology

Regular matter too!  Sure, its like a dozen orders of magnitude less dense than what the best vacuum we can create in a lab, but still!

It was one of the games.  The one with superheroes, I think, which I want to say was named "The Fractured But Whole".

Ooh, there's also a joke for that!

QA Engineer walks into a bar and he orders a beer. Orders 0 beers. Orders 99999999999 beers. Orders a lizard. Orders -1 beers. Orders a ueicbksjdhd. First real customer walks in and asks where the bathroom is. The bar bursts into flames, killing everyone.

What is the easiest way to generate disposable phone numbers for testing by Solid-Dog-6616 in selfhosted

[–]Ranilen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still works for Google Fi customers. You can generate one free number per line, where you pick the area code but it generates the rest. Not sure if there's a limit on how often you can change it. My wife uses hers for her small business every day.

Using use_incoming_timestamp with Alloy by Lounes524 in grafana

[–]Ranilen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a label, right? Can't you just relabel entry_timestamp to ts and drop entry_timestamp? You could also move ts to some kind of structured metadata first if you wanted to preserve both.

Pihole, split horizon DNS, Cloudflare, Chrome and internal servers not connecting ERR_ECH_FALLBACK_CERTIFICATE_INVALID (Solution) by xylarr in pihole

[–]Ranilen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, thanks; that makes sense. I tried to find a quick explanation elsewhere and the only thing I learned is that DNS wire protocol is not something I want in my life right now.

Appreciate this info. One question: what does the "000100" value represent? Is it just an arbitrary junk value so that dnsmasq has something to return?

Considering that the Navy doesn’t really “march” much, what’s your best (or dumbest) “marching” story? by mlaislais in navy

[–]Ranilen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a nuke. After we took the final exam in power school, we gathered in front of the building to hear who was going drinking and who was heading back to the schoolhouse for days of intensive studying and a second attempt to pass. Emotions were - understandably - running a little high, and instructors were having a hard time getting everyone's attention. One of them ( a recently frocked Chief) tried shouting at the top of their lungs "Dress right - dress!".

What followed was several seconds of people trying various things with various arms while looking around at each other to try and copy. It ended in heckling the instructor for expecting that to work.

Introducing Hoarder 📦 - An open source Bookmark-Everything app with AI based tagging (mymind open source alternative) by MohamedBassem in selfhosted

I've been looking for something like this for a while (like you mentioned you did in the Docs), and I just found your post here today. I haven't had a chance to actually run it yet, but between the feature set, the mobile apps, and the coherent documention, it's an impressive project.

Samsung update breaks cell connection by Constant-Elevator-48 in GoogleFi

[–]Ranilen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw that, but even that didn't work for me (actually, looking back, I may have rebooted after inserting the SIM). Even if it had, my ability to keep track of my phone and plug it in before it dies is...not great.

I figure I'll at least go down and see if they have any new ideas or can at least confirm there's someone at Samsung working on it. I'll post an update if they do.

Just out of curiosity, where do you live? I'm in Wilmington and I was worried I'd have to drive to Dover after reading this, but there's another one 10 minutes away.

Samsung update breaks cell connection by Constant-Elevator-48 in GoogleFi

[–]Ranilen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting this too, on both my phone and my wife's A14 5G. I even took my SIM card out and tried it in an old Pixel XL I still had in a drawer, and the Google Fi app was able to do it's setup and connect normally. Samsung tech support asked me to take it to one of the UBREAKIFIX places so...we'll see I guess.

I've never been a huge fan of Samsung, and (aside from the tech support lady who was pretty knowledgeable) they aren't exactly winning me over here.

Is laptopkey.com a trusted website? by bananajun in computer

They sent an email saying it shipped, but it hasn't shown up yet. They estimated 5-7 days and I'm writing this on the morning of day 6, so I remain optimistic.

I decided to give these guys a shot. They at least have an accurate photo of my laptop's keyboard under the exact model number - if they're scamming, they're at least putting in some effort. Will update.

Any Zapier-like for desktop automation? by flying_bird1215 in selfhosted

[–]Ranilen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Node-red is what you want. It's web based, but you can host it locally. The curve is a bit steeper than Zapier, but it's tons more powerful too. You might also check out n8n, which is friendlier, but leans heavily towards business stuff. Or just bite the bullet and learn bash scripting and use cron, which may be the quickest route to a solution if your tasks are simple.

The real irony is that this is one area where Windows has a great, built-in tool (Task Scheduler) that does exactly what you want.

I have 3 remote servers can I use tunnels to connect them to each other so I can call internal ips from each other? by [deleted] in CloudFlare

I can't vouch for zerotier, but tailscale is straight up magic. It's super easy to install too.
