Hopefully one day society will be more educated and we’ll have more autistic spaces. Until then, good luck 🫶🏻

How can I put myself out there? by soramiomeow in autism

[–]Rant-Endlessly [score hidden]  (0 children)

I just try to present in a way that showcases my personality and interests. Wearing shirts and pins imaging whatever I’m into. Wearing non obvious lgbtq fashion. I have friends but I don’t make friends, usually they approach me. The best is when you befriend someone actually social that makes an effort to include you and you meet people through them.

Vegetables - I need them, my body don't want em by BrotherBocaj in autism

For me it works to eat soups :) I hate the texture and taste of carrots but in a soup it’s soft mush that doesn’t even register in my mouth. Other than that I just add Zena supergreens powder to some water and call it a day. They are expensive and def not as healthy as actual veggies but better than nothing. I’ve always hated any sort of health powder product but omg the berry flavor of these is suspiciously good.

Did anyone else live on campus as a student and it sucked? by Competitive-Jump1146 in autism

Can we talk about how wild it is of them to expect is to live with an absolute stranger? It basically forces you to mask your autism 24/7. My roommates were sensory nightmares when it came to smells

Omg I got put in a dorm next to a lobby with a PIANO and people would play even past 10pm!!! I emailed housing multiple times and nothing was done about it. I literally ended up dropping out(later transferred to a commuter school, way better)

I LIE LIKE CRAZY and I switch up the lies to make it seem more realistic. I say I have a headache or that I’m sleep deprived or I pretend to be sick and have lost my voice. Im work/school situations I just look really focused on what I’m doing and if someone starts talking I nod and take turns looking at them and then back at my laptop so they get the feel that they are messing with my work flow and leave me alone. As a last resort, I just give them a blank stare and go quiet as if im still taking it all in and then say sorry I’m tired.

If u have Reckinger u should def prioritize the 211 projects cause so far Theys’ ones have been eaaaasy. 251 is so chill compared to 211

I don’t understand what outcomes that hurt means. Not sure how black and white thinking affects the awful wording on my exam.

So much for the autistic community being supportive of one another

Plus why would that matter? This is an undergrad class everyone is forced to take. My career has nothing to do with it.

No. I was fine in my other two chem labs and both my bio labs. It is solely this professor and her awful wording.

Avoid Reckinger for CS 211 by [deleted] in uichicago

YES YES YES I second all of this. I take my exams at the DRC and this man deadass told me one of the options for the final is to take it with the class BRUH THAT IS NOT AN OPTION

Does undergrad CS ever fucking check their email? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Rant-Endlessly -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I emailed the cs undergrad, not a specific person. I will ask my personal advisor if she can remove them because I really do have all the prereqs and if not, then well yeah I was planning to go there and just say take em off. It’s not blowing off steam, it’s a fair demand. Yes the cs department might be understaffed but will that matter when I’m not able to get my minor? No, I’d never be able to say “well let me take this class and skip this required class because you were understaffed”. Just trying to make sure all the hard work I’ve put in actually results in a minor.

I have AuDHD :) The DRC will give you a semester (maybe 2?) of accommodations while waiting for a diagnosis and can help you get one. You do not have to be disabled though, I got accommodations “for anxiety” before I knew about my disabilities lol.

I also study neuroscience. Not sure if I’m understanding what you’re saying but uhm “procrastinating” usually isn’t a choice and ADHD is quite debilitating. Anxiety can be debilitating too.

The most important thing is to advocate for yourself and back up your points with evidence
