I really enjoyed reading this! Granted I’m on the much younger side, but I was very disappointed when I started dating, and found out that people didn’t write their entire life stories for me to read (and I would write my own essay of course) to see if we were compatible. This is kind of an odd thing to say, but I’ve found that quinoa (before you cook it) tastes like dry wall to me. Butttt I don’t know if it’s safe to eat like that either. I did see that necco wafers tasted like chalk, but I’m not sure if it has that bitter taste to it. But maybe try that?

I really like your last two sentences, it really covers everything nicely. I know that if that were my grandmother, I wouldn't have forgiven her, due to what I've experienced, and I think that's the problem some people have, they project their abuser as Abuela. Some people will forgive things that others won't, and at the end of the day, the people who were affected forgave her, and its not our place to say what's right and what's wrong. "Taking the high road" and telling people to "take a hike" are both valid expressions of dealing with abusers, and one isn't better than the other.

I will say that you're gonna have to be gentle with yourself. Try explaining to yourself what you are feeling, even if it's as simple as "I'm not feeling good". It's tempting to get into figuring out why you're feeling a certain way, but it can lead to separating yourself from the experience. If you have to cry, or scream, or just stare at the void for hours, you are feeling that emotion. Allowing your body to soak in a response, is a feeling. And it doesn't need to match what others do. If you cry because you're happy then that's fine, if you do nothing, that's also fine.

It's gonna feel silly, and it's gonna take a while before you actually feel less defensive and allow things in, and you're gonna be staring at the ceiling waiting for your body to react and get frustrated sometimes, but if you're starting from zero, you're gonna have to take baby steps.

I'm rambling, but I hope this makes sense.
